NerdLounge folks are a kind and charitable bunch and also have some folks who are pretty knowledgeable about non-profits. This is the place to share information about worthy organizations you might know, work with, or donate to who could use some help.

Like many of my posts, this one has a selfish element. We're at the end of the tax year where I live, and this is when I often make charitable donations. I try to divide my donations 50/50, with half going to local organizations I support (my town's domestic violence shelter, humane society, and food bank) and the other half going to groups that work nationally or internationally. I don't have a steady set of groups I donate toward for the second half, though. This year, I'd be particularly interested in learning about organizations that help refugees. However, this is a general thread and everyone please share any group you know and feel does great work!

Doctors without borders is one I always donate to. They are always neck deep in the most dangerous situations providing needed services. They were the first to detect Ebola. They are the main medical services in many of the refugee camps.

Another option is International red cross/red crescent. They are the ones providing support in Syria and in most of the refugee camps.

International rescue committee is the best nondenominational organization for refugee resettlement

Amnesty International is another good choice.
