Re: Berserk
I usually watch it once, but find most ED songs pretty meh and nothing much usually happens, so I give up after that

Re: Berserk
Berserk S2E10
- Spoiler:
- So did that demon thing gallop off with Luca?
- This egg guy looks like a sentient Behelit
- "Fighting these monsters as an equal or more" THAT ABOUT DESCRIBES GATSOO
- Demon just wanted to talk to someone
- I don't get it, did Skull Knight kill that demon and eat his Behelit?
- Awriiight, Guts killing BDSM Angels
- Oh, Behelit guy is still alive
- IS THE TOWER TURNING INTO A GODHAND
- Fucking tosses Isidoro
- M-maybe Gatsoo can change the outcome of this Festival

Berserk S2E10
- Spoiler:
- The whole thing with the egg confused me so much in the manga. I think I need to re-read this arc.
As a sidenote: When this was initially published in whatever magazine Berserk is published in Japan, before it was released in actual book format, there was an extra chapter here. This chapter went into some details about what's actually going on. Miura considered this too revealing, though, and he opted to remove the chapter for the volume release.

Re: Berserk
Finally caught up
- e5:
-I always kinda liked Isidoro. This show is turning his plucky-comedy-kid shtick up to 11 compared to the manga, but I actually don’t have a problem with it. If you can accept post-Golden Age Berserk as a different thing than pre-Eclipse, and see this show as the least serious segment of the manga adapted to be even less serious, then he’s a pretty good addition
-I always totally liked Luca (but how do you not like the “crusader army prostitute union leader with a kind, brave heart of gold" character?)
-But this super-lame fanservice onanism sequence...
-Oh, poodle-hair Nina, your hair's just as poodly as in the manga
-This Mozgus face, good lord
-"I caught a thief"
-Getting closer to party cohesion, alriiiight
Enail wrote:Tons of words about ep 5
bomaye wrote:Same
- e6:
-I ’d at the few moments where they animate Skull Knight moving really, really slowly when he’s not galloping somewhere super fast. I'd totally be into it if they stuck with it as a Skull Knight Feature
-"Do not have more than one you care for" indeed.
-“Shit’s getting real!”
-Less orgy, more Great Goat
-The spanking always struck me as Luca, faced with the most horrific unnatural shit of her life, and just reverting to her most familiar MO (No-Nonsense but Nurturing Leader)?
-"I'm not trying to obligate you to me." GODDAMN, SERPICO
-Good old Farnese’s childhood
Yeah.“Enail” wrote:-And immediately after Joachim goes off the cliff, everyone's suddenly all normal "man, I'd better go, I've got work tomorrow, see you next tuesday?" Kind of a sudden end to the hallucinations and wild cannibalistic orgies.
- e7:
-Finally, more Great Goat
-“You’ll be the ones I sacrifice for my ambition” I don’t remember Isidoro being this metatextual, but I’m actually pretty down with the way this show is handling him
-Concealed freakout + concealed boner = we’ve got a full-on Comedy Kid in Berserk, I repeat, this is not a drill
-This show could be so good if the music were good y’all
-Seriously, just imagine the shot where Guts replaces the demons in her eyes, but set to some music that actually gets to you. What wasted potential for some real heart-pangs
- e8:
-WHOA, WHERE DID THIS ANIMATION BUDGET COME FROM?! This episode looks great.
-Serpico going “oh dear” + doing the Judeau head shake.
-LEDGE SCRAP. Easily the most entertaining fight so far (largely because it’s not just Monster of Week vs. Man With Sword and there are reasons to care about why both sides are fighting, but it also looked awesome)
-Yeah, that “not gonna be Gambino” moment.
- e9:
-Is this pope speaking Japanese with an Italian accent?
-Serpico/Farnese interactions really are one of my favorite things about post-Golden Age Berserk.
-Oh Nina, you living embodiment of everybody’s own fears re: secretly being a useless coward when it comes down to it
-“Above my pay grade”
-“So, you’re Death?” I’m such a sucker for characters who are all inappropriately bemused and polite in the face of the supernatural.
I keep waiting for that statue to sprout ‘em and announce the Day of the Festival“Enail” wrote:-Holy shit, Mozgus gets to be an angel?!? Well, really just a holy-looking demon. But still, he gets those fucking angelic wings!
- e10:
-Poor Egg of the New World. Peak pathos as true evil is pretty fun stuff, though.
-I can’t believe they’re only going to get us through the Festival in this series, this feels like sort of a weird segment of the plot to choose for a show after a 20-year hiatus. Unless they’re gearing up for a season 2?
Did you read it? If so, don’t tell me anything from it (I like how little info we have about what’s going on), but are you glad you did?“Student” wrote:As a sidenote: When this was initially published in whatever magazine Berserk is published in Japan, before it was released in actual book format, there was an extra chapter here. Re: Berserk
- S2E10:
-Noooo, Luca!
-Alone, living in a garbage pit and crushed by corpses till demons found him. Classic cheerful Berserk backstory
-Behilit demon, oh shit
-that priest-skin scarecrow idol makes a properly unsettling symbol for a god for the ugly, cowardly, cruel world.
-Isidoro confidently talking up Guts to the helping soldier-guy while tears of terror stream down his face
-GO ISIDORO, BRAIN MOZGUS LIKE WE'VE ALL BEEN DYING TO DO SINCE HE SHOWED UP!!! Gotta say, the kid's got courage.
-"It could have been anyone, I just wanted to talk to someone before I disappeared" Peak pathos as true evil is an interesting idea, Werel.
-...Did Skull Knight just eat a behelit I mean, they call them eggs, but....
-Plague-mask angel's thanks to God is kind of heartbreaking
-I love how calm Luca is about everything, like, she's shocked, but no more shocked than she would be if she was told she'd have to pay a huge fine or something else mundane.
-Serpico appearing to catch Farnese out of nowhere, I bet he spends half his time just lurking around near Farnese so he can casually step out to be right there to save the day whenever she trips or realizes she's forgotten her toothbrush or whatever.
-Being like "see my angel wings" as proof of God's power that will let you defeat the White Hawk... who else besides angels have white, feathered wings?
-GO GUTS!!!!!!!!!! I do worry about that 'don't care for more than one' thing, though. Tough choices could be a comin'

Re: Berserk
Werel: It's a really long time since I did read it and I'm not going to spoil what I remember, but I found it pretty interesting. It did confirm my suspicions about a few things.
It throws some information in your face which I suspect that Miura wants to deliver slightly more subtly in the future.
Edit: You are not missing anything by not reading it, though. And I remember it wrong. That chapter was from the Golden Age arc. It took place during the eclipse.

S2E11
- Spoiler:
- "Sorry, Death-kun, I kind of need to not leave. Domo arigato!"
- Is that Zodd showing up again?
- Another Eclipse incoming
- Demon Abortion is dying
- Hrmmmmm, I wonder what's gonna happen to Farnese when she sees people trying to burn someone again
- Isidoro ;_;
- Holy SHIT, Guts o.o
- I like how the people think Guts is the demon and not the monster-y looking guy
- Annnnd he just burned the shit out of Guts
- OR NOT
- Isidoro and Puck take down demon angels
- "Fuck'em, they don't do anything to save themselves." Harssshhhh, Gatsoo
- "If you meet god, tell him this for me: Leave me the hell alone." GATSOOOO
- Guts holds Casca ;_____;
- Farnese PSTDing while Guts is lighting the fire and telling them they'll survive, wtfffff
- Thaaaaaaaaaaat preview doesn't bode well o.o

Re: Berserk
- S2E11:
-"Thanks for everything, Death, see you!" Luka
-Why is demon fetus dying all of a sudden?
-Demon fetus inside a living behelit, that seems pretty effin' symbolic.
-The guard playing it cool while stuck with his superiors, but being outed by Isidoro
-Pretty impressed with Isidoro & co's rescue of Casca from the pyre, that was good work!
-YES HE STABBED MOZGUS!!! that was cathartic
-Those are some mighty stone pummeling-wings
-the ol' "I had a bible in my chest pocket"
-Farnese and Serpico still doing nothing
-Oh shit, that bare-handed punch opening into bloody fingers grasping uselessly, falling to the ground, that's not good
-GRENADE! YESS!
-"if you meet your god, tell him to leave me the hell alone"
-"fly up to heaven by your own damned self"
-I do feel pretty bad for all the doomed faithful watching their holy leader fall and leave them to the monsters, though, sucks to be a random peasant in this world (or anyone else )
-Guts just holding onto Casca while she freaks out
-Sub-commander's face when the people he was ready to give his life to protect close the door on the refugees still left outside. And he still keeps up the fight.
-Of course it's Serpico who notices that fire works against the blob
-Serpico's "I don't do well with fire" and Farnese can't even manage that much
-"We're going to survive" HELL YEAH GUTS!!!
Just one more episode

-Oh Luka. Maybe you are just trying to act tough, but you're good at it.
-Hey Zodd howzit
-Aren't y'all just a little curious what happens when you put a God Hand fetus inside a behelit?
-"I've been doing a lot of falling lately." Yeah Isidoro you've got your uses
-Minor complaint: I wish this show could strike the levity balance a bit better. I do like the hijinx vibe at times, but Tower of Conviction would be a nice time to give the situation some gravity instead of spending half an episode on Mozgus as Adon 2.0. "ANCIENTCORBORLWITZHOLY SEE THOUSAND-FIST STRIKE TECHNIQUE HAR HAR" kinda jolts you out of the important "we're already caught in the whorls of karma, but you might be a fish breaking the surface" shit.
-"A real knight doesn't lose hope until the final moment." I salute you, Azan-sama
-The minute Guts starts lighting fires and saying "we're going to survive" and you can just hear Farnese's panties soaking
-The preview: "Being afraid means I want to live." Yes indeed, Nina.

- Spoiler:
- Yes, absolutely. I've kind of gotten to accept the hijinx and even enjoy them for what they are, but a big part of why Berserk has a hold on me is the immense, epic feel of the struggle and tragedy and fate, and the nakama and their wacky stunts do detract from that even when they make you smile.

Re: Berserk
Sure didn't <_<
S2E12
- Spoiler:
He was in human form
S2E12
- Spoiler:
- Guts is taken, Farnese
- Just roll Nina in a barrel
- "Don't be a scaredy-cat, we're just being chased by hell-blobs"
- Puck seems to have some idea of what's going on
- "If you don't want to die, do something." Life motto of GATSOO
- So now imagery of Nina gestating in an egg/barrel <.<
- G-Griffith?
- Heyyyyyyy everyone survived the faux-eclipse/dawn of the new world (?)
- Just in time for the Kushans to massacre them
- "Go easy on the guy with the large sword" Meanwhile Guts cut a bunch of fools in half and Serpico easily and seemingly almost accidentally cuts a bunch of them (his eyes opened just beforehand too)
- Dohohohoo Holy Chain Knight guy survived too
- Z-Zodd?
- Was he missing a horn the last time?
- KILL GRIFFITH
- KILL
- GRIFFITH
- Zodd being used as a steed
- Guts vs an Army, probably bet on Guts
- Ummmm, it's probably okay to be afraid of Cannibals, Joachim
- "I'm going to follow the Black Swordsman." And this is how it starts

Re: Berserk
- S2E12:
-Nina quietly crying over a broken ankle while everyone else is engulfed by horrific glob-demons. Her problems are on a different scale from other people's.
-Luca is waaay too chill about the glob-demons.
-"this is a world where the sun rises" Guts looks at Casca for that bit.
-This is not the time for existential angst, Farnese! GET IT TOGETHER AND BURN SHIT!
-I'm surprised the glob-demons can't engulf a barrel. They're breaking down doors left and right, destroying stone...I think it might be Luca's sheer unimpressedness keeping that barrel safe.
-Oh shit, that egg imagery around Nina in the barrel
-The hand reaching for the moon, the egg, GRIFFFFFIIIIITTTTHHHHHHH
-I can't believe it's halfway through the episode, they're all alive and none of them were tortured or raped. Is this really Berserk?
-The demons gone and we're having an Exotic Foreigners interlude? This is a weird direction for the last episode of the season.
-Even Azan is still alive?!? WTF, where's all the despair???
-Casca reaching towards Griffith...I don't even know what emotion I'm feeling, but it hurts
-Luca not only defends the maddened hordes that wanted to burn them all as witches, she's mourning the living behelit guy, even knowing his wish may have created a terrible new world? What is this perfect unimpressed compassion person?!
-"The strength to protect someone is different from the strength to be with someone," wise words from Nina of all people, and probably prescient for next season. Guts is good in a crisis, but how's he going to handle the day to day?
-Nina and Joachim reconcile even? This is a weiiiirdly happy ending.
-Farnese finally decides that if she's going to follow someone, it'll be to go into the darkness and survive it. I felt like her character arc could have been done a lot better, though.
I'm relieved everyone survived and nothing horrible happened (to the characters we care about, at least ), and completely ready to watch Guts FUCKING MURDER Griffith next season (and please can we get Casca coming back to herself? ) , but this episode was really weak for a finale, and I think it's mostly because of that inability to balance the two sides of the lighter elements and the hellishly dark. It's almost like two totally different stories, what in the one is just a footnote tragic backstory for the grumpy badass in the ragtag team making their way in a world full of things they can't fully understand, is instead its own story, this immense tragedy about the inevitable destruction of a moment of happiness in a cruel universe. And the latter is somehow the core of the former but the former may give us the happy ending of the latter. It's constantly mismatching expectations.

Yep I think so.Enail wrote:I think it might be Luca's sheer unimpressedness keeping that barrel safe.
-Plot-irrelevant wonderins: I need to know what these globs are made of. They move like jelly, but once exploded, are solid like meat. Is it like a lobster, liquid 'til you cook it?
-"Don't pray. If you pray, your hands are closed." Yeahhh Gatsoo
-Hey, rebirth looked pretty decent for the animation budget. Psychedelic GlobHand and all.
-"Oh, the puffy lady's alive!"
-Y'know, you could just cut the Kushan from this whole series and no one would mind. There are better plot mechanisms you could insert.
-Casca reaching for Griffith. Feelings.
-Griffith's straight up reptile pupils now
-Zodd-as-mount is one of my favorite conceits from post-Golden-Age arcs.
-Fucking...Luca...why do you have to be my super-sugoi unattainable ideal role model
-I really don't feel like Nina and co. got this much attention in the comic. Much less Nina's happy ending being like a crucial part of the SEASON FINALE. These writers really did a weird job adapting this arc.
-Serpico just being like "later"
-I do like Guts finally having his own Casca in the form of Farnese. Such a clean parallel to Griffith acquiring Casca, except he's giving her a sword to defend herself from something more than the banal little evils of men. But I completely agree that her character arc could've been done a lot better in this show. It's one of my favorite things about the manga, but it felt pretty flat here, and the stuff they chose to focus on instead was baffling (Nina?! Who gives a shit about Nina?)
YEP. You nailed it, way to phrase the problem with this show perfectly. The emotional tone is schizophrenic as hell, which means you can't settle into either side or really sink your teeth into the consequences of anything that's happened. FWIW, I do think the manga maintains the momentum and tragedy much better than this show's doing, so the source material isn't devoid of good content they could work with next season....Enail wrote:this episode was really weak for a finale, and I think it's mostly because of that inability to balance the two sides of the lighter elements and the hellishly dark. Really looking forward to the post-Hawk of Light world being animated, though. Glad the new show will probably get to one of my favorite post-Golden Age moments. (HILL OF SWORDS YEAHHHHH BOY)
Also, for y'all who are up to speed on the manga? We just passed an important anniversary, you guys.
