Spring Anime 2018
Chart is a fucking heavy hitter, holy shit o.o;
On a cursory glance, I'm hoping a lot of this secretly ends up being trash, because there's a shit-ton of big-name stuff that I want to watch and some of the stuff I don't know about sounds interesting and my list might be way too big this season and I won't be able to do it all unless some of it sucks

Aight, my first "might keep watching this is" Gegege no Kiratarou. 50th Anniversary series of a manga that apparently popularized Yokai folklore in manga. Chill, easy to watch, animation was better than average, the sentient eyeball is voiced by Goku's voice actor. But also nothing special so if there ends up being too much going on, it'll be easy to drop

Re: Spring Anime 2018
Okay, I took a look. There's a bunch of things that look potentially decent, but nothing that grabbed me hugely, so if you want to rec me something you're watching instead, I'd go for it.
As far as stuff I'm thinking of checking out:
Probably the one that stood out to me was Mahou Shoujo Ore. It could be hilarious or could turn out just bad, but I did lol at the preview.
Caligula could be cool, though there's something pretty videogame-feeling about the preview in a not-good way. Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu looks okay, but that kind of show it's hard to tell from a preview. Golden Kamuy, I'm intrigued by the concept of a gold rush story, which I think of as being very North American, in a Japanese context, but I'm not sure it'd grab me, Juushinki Pandora seems cool, I thought Last Period(worst gratuitous English name ever...maybe 3rd worst ) might be fun but the preview looked awfully cutesy for my taste, Nil Admirariseems like it could be an enjoyable historical fantasy. Wotaku ni koi ha muzukashii - I'm not that into a mostly romance-based story, but it seems like it could be kind of a fun Genshiken for office workers thing. The preview didn't load, though, so I don't have a lot to go on.

First two episodes of that came out sometime last week (maybe some kind of pre-release preview), so it won't take long to find out if you're interested in it
I'm somewhat wondering if I'll be able to recommend much of anything this season because so much of it seems to be season 2s or 3s or continuations of already previously long-running series. Anyone making something quality might be holding it back just in case it gets lost in the shuffle of the Tokyo Ghouls and Seven Deadly Sins and My Hero Academias and everything else

Okay, I could probably use a break from keeping up with stuff or could watch something older I've missed if nothing this season grabs me, anyway.

If you like shit about space-fleets and "is this a sneak-yaoi?", Legend of the Galactic Heroes is amazing.
Probs just find a stream and watch one of the spaceship battles

Re: Spring Anime 2018
Welp, looks like Tokyo Ghoul Root A is actually so far from the original manga that you can't watch the new season of Tokyo Ghoul:re and understand what's happening without it, even though they apparently leave off at similar places.
Guess it's manga reading for me with that one

Re: Spring Anime 2018
Comic Girls might be my seasonal Yuru-camp type show. Low-key, chill, cute. It's about female mangaka living in a dorm room together. First episode was well animated, good cherry blossom petals. and sounds like it will get more interesting or funny because of what they all draw (the androgynous girl does passionate shonen manga, another girl does por DON'T TELL THE KIDS etc)
"What's this lewd schoolgirl uniform for?!"
"... School?"
Also I died when they were doing shading for a drawn page and screwed up
It also made me push up my glasses because they made a joke about "three pen style" and "three times faster" and I understood both references
Zoro from One Piece uses three sword style
and
Char Aznable's Custom Red Zaku from original Gundam is three times faster than a normal Zaku.
What's my power level, guys?

Re: Spring Anime 2018
Saredo Tsumibito etc/Dances With Dragons was light novel fantasy+sci-fi trash that in normal seasonal circumstances I'd probably keep watching because the dragon fight was well animated. But if this season is too jam-packed, it'll be another one to go

I wish Megalo Box didn't have the robot exoskeleton stuff, but otherwise it's everything I want in a boxing anime (that isn't already in Hajime no Ippo: The Fighting, please come back Ippo)

Re: Spring Anime 2018
I checked out the first ep of Mahou Shoujo Ore. It was kind of eh, there were a few funny bits, but it was pretty slow to get started and they made the audience sit through one-and-a-half songs without much point and terrible singing, so I'm not really motivated to watch more.
Legend of the Galactic Heroes was pretty good, the battles looked cool and it has a melancholy, classic 80s feel I like. It has a bit more potential to be Battle of the Mary Sues than I like, but I'll definitely watch the next one.

Re: Spring Anime 2018
OKAY, trying to get back on the anime choo-choo after that horrifying (and still unfinished for me) Wrestlemania weekend
Hinamatsuri isn't like laugh out loud but more smirk funny, and kinda heartwarming. One of those no-emotions little girl types with telekinesis (implied to be from some not-quite-Earth-as-we-know-it place) accidentally pops in on a Yakuza dude and she starts bossing him around with her powers and he ends up becoming her caretaker. Yet another decent-quality anime that I might drop if there's too much (there's actually starting to be too much of that and while I say they're easy to drop, it's hard to decide among the easy-to-drops which ones to keep ), but there might be enough to actually keep this one.
Devil's Line is a Tokyo-Ghoul rip-off type anime about vampires. Lots of blood splashing and body chunks flying and they have this really weird affect where it looks like they drew the animation normally but then fast-forwarded the video of it to have that "vampire-speed" thing to it, but I think it's being used for human characters too. Also, there's strangely some "I want to live in anime Japan" backgrounds. And the ending was WTF. Yet another "I really want to keep this one."

That built the right way. Then got a little anime at the end. But I'm interested to see more

Golden Kamuy
Thissssss is really interesting. It's not really about North American Gold Rush like I thought but more just about finding hidden gold in Northern Japanese Wilderness.
A certain animated segment did not look good at all, but I'm definitely gonna watch the second episode

Re: Spring Anime 2018
Getting rough trying to cut my list down. Even some of the trash appears high-quality this season and if it was broadcast last season when things were weaker I would've easily kept them
I liked the sound-effects and mecha shit of Juushinki Pandora/Last Hope. I was kind of grouping that together with Grancrest Senki continuing from last season and Saredo etc/Dances With Dragons this season and figuring that maybe I'll keep one and cut the other two. Now I kind of want to keep Juushinki and don't want to get rid of them for different reasons (Grancrest has cool violence and not-good anything else, Dances had a good monster battle but I think it might be getting more political with ep 2)

Wotakoi: Love is Hard For Otaku
I think I hate the female lead, but it's noitamina so I'll stick with another episode or two. A series about sorta hiding otaku-ness and it didn't really feel like there was much consequence to hiding it in that story

Hinamatsuri 2
Holy shit
I've laughed out loud a few times at it now. It's sort of chill like Kobayashi's Dragon Maid, but with a bit funnier edge because the human lead is a Yakuza soldier instead of a nerdy programmer.

Devils Line 2
The half-Vampire main char snuck into the female lead's room so he could smell her hair.
It felt like Tokyo Ghoul last time, now it's more like what I've heard of Twilight

Re: Spring Anime 2018
Legend of the Galactic Heroes 2
- Spoiler:
-this show is all about old guys not realizing how brilliant young guys are
-"I'm so lucky I'm one of three people who survived total destruction, so don't worry about this mission." Um, I'm not sure that's the kind of luck that other people should feel reassured by
-it seems super-careless to be so out of contact with the other fleets that they don't notice that the enemy's jamming their signals till it's too late, especially given that their plan falls apart if they're not well coordinated to surround the enemy. I feel like they're playing everyone else a little too dumb and arrogant so as to play up the brilliant young tacticians stifled by the old order who can only be understood by another tactician as brilliant (and handsome ) as them.
-sorry Jessica, I think your bf/childhood friend/sister/whatever significant person just doomed himself by mentioning you
-Fuck, the ships go down fast
-the little repair robots
-they are spending way too long debating who's in command, just hurry up and take over, Smarty McHandsome!
-"we're losing right now, but all that matters is that we win in the end." I think the people whose ships are being blown up while you make your speech might disagree
-He pre-programmed a plan into the system for when communications get blocked
-if it goes wrong and they all get killed he'll pretend he was clueless
-Blondie realizes something's up
-breaking up to reform and catch them in the middle!
-he's offended by the circle formation looking stupid
-"Yay, now we can be bestfriendsenemies!"

Thiiiis fucking guy.

This guy too
I remember as the first episode was winding on I just kept thinking "Man, the protags suuuuuure exude Nazi/Zeon/Imperial German evil-ness, why are we following them when this Alliance business sounds more good-guy " and then the episode ends with Yang Wen-Li over the comms calmly informing the faltering alliance fleet "COME WITH ME IF YOU WANT TO LIVEFollow my orders and we will survive this" and I was like UWOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH just as the episode to-be-continued
Fleet battle animation too. God damn

Re: Spring Anime 2018
Golden Kamuy 1 was really interesting, the historical aspect and the ghost-story adventure feel, and there was something catchy about it overall. That one bit of animation was really bad, though.
Also
I'll definitely try to check out the next episode.
Also
- Spoiler:
-starts off with eating an ant. I...don't know what to make of a show that thinks that's the first thing its audience should know about it.
I'll definitely try to check out the next episode.
