Cat Circles
I know a lot of you have cats, as do I, and I think it's important that we test this hypothesis:
http://happyplace.someecards.com/cats/the-internet-comes-full-cat-circle-with-cat-circles/
It has long been observed that, if you put a small piece of newspaper in the middle of an otherwise empty floor, any cats in the vicinity will be compelled to come and sit on it. I feel this experiment uses the same principle. I have therefore placed the cat circle (made of string) in an area of the floor in which the cats do not usually rest. I will experiment with different placements, materials and sizes.
LET'S SCIENCE!
ETA: As I am writing this, subject #1 returns through the catflap and immediately walks into the cat circle. She clearly wants to move towards the feeding station but seems paralysed within the circle. After a visible struggle with herself, she moves to the water bowl. However, the spell of the circle has now been broken and she walks back over it with nary a second glance.
Hypothesis revision! Possibly a cat circle only works once per cat? For all multi-cat household, does the element of competition increase the attractiveness of the cat circle?

Re: Cat Circles
I'm game! Let's see if my cat continues with her previous preoccupation with circles, or whether sheer contrariness will mean that this will be the only time she avoids them.

Re: Cat Circles
So far, my one and only subject has been recalcitrant. She peered down at me from the top of the cabinets, hopped down to eat, vomited on the living room carpet because of course she couldn't do that in the laundry room or the kitchen, and then curled up under the covers.

Re: Cat Circles
Mine is old and just looked at me blearily (she is going blind), licked herself, and then went back to sleep. We will see if the cat circle attracts during her 5 minutes of not laying down tomorrow morning.

Re: Cat Circles
Like the internet always says - Pics or it didn't happen! (I think everyone can agree that this is a much healthier context for this internet phrase than it's usual and more common usage)
