We all thought it. According to this source: http://comicbook.com/2014/12/18/ridley-scott-answers-whether-deckard-is-a-replicant-in-blade-run/

Ridley Scott finally gave a statement on video that Deckard is a replicant. Only took over 30 years for a final answer.

And Blade Runner sequel is coming up. Have no idea how they are going to make it. Hopefully in centres around Deckard's feeling of inevitable mortality as he gets closer to his expiration date.

But seriously, I kind of hate that he had to go and say that on the record. What's wrong with letting stoned freshman have that debate for another 30 years, Ridley??

I... could have sworn I read something about this three to five years ago. Huh.

If you've seen the Director's Cut or the. . .whatever they called the mid 2000's re-release, its not really a point of debate. I mean, yeah, its still subtle but once you've seen it you can't unsee it.

Personally, I hate that. I hate that Deckard is a replicant, I hate that Gaff (reportedly) is the basis for Deckard. Why does Deckard have to be a replicant?

Never made sense to me, if anything the reason I liked him being human was because he was the nicest (or seemingly nicest) blade runner on the LAPD. Unlike Gaff, or any of the other blade runners who appeared to be condescending assholes, also like Gaff.

I dunno, Deckard being a replicant strips him of any humanity imo, since being a replicant is almost like giving you a license to be super-human. I liked it that Deckard was a regular dude struggling to survive and ended up falling for a robot.

I dunno, I don't like it. It is what it is. :/

I always assumed he was a replicant but maybe that is because I read the book first?

It removes one layer of meaning but it opens another because Deckard is human by any definition that matters. Why does he fact that his birthday is really an incept date make him less so?

I get what you mean, but it ain't so much his birthday as it is that he's technically not a man of flesh, blood and bone. Shit, he's not even a real man but rather grown, synthetic man. And really, if Deckard was a replicant, then why didn't he and Roy legit go head to head and have a serious fist fight or anything?

I dunno, I don't like it. But I'll live with it.

Depends on who you ask, but Scott's been saying "Replicant" for a while. Of course, the screenwriter wrote the character as a human. I think it's okay to make your own interpretation, and not be overly concerned with what Word of God says—especially when in this case there's a whole pantheon to deal with and they each say different things (Ford supposedly asked and didn't get a straight answer, but wanted the character to be Human so that's how he played him).

Personally, I'm with Johnny—Deckard eats, breathes, sleeps, dreams, thinks, loves, cares, and makes decisions and acts on them. So the more interesting debate is in whether it matters how he was made!

I dunno, I don't like it. But I'll live with it.

Remember, replicants can only be told from humans by a bone marrow analysis. So while they are grown in a tank, they're more or less human. Roy was a combat model, so he was Steve Rogers level human. Same with Zora and. . .um. . .the one who shoots the other blade runner at the beginning. The other women are more human scale non-combat models and so, presumably, is Deckard. So what makes someone human? Is it their birth, their life span, their memories, their capacity for empathy? Wrestling with that is Roy's character arc and Deckard's, too. Remember, Tyrell's "niece" passes the last two and all blade runners fail the last one. . . because their job is to kill something that is essentially human.

I think a lot of any given person's take on it can also be expressed in their answer to "does this unit have a soul?" Mine is, "no, but neither do we."

*Goes to watch Blade Runner to see what all this fuss is about*

I can't help but make parallels with the Ghost in the Shell movie that explores the same theme of "What is it that makes us human?"
