I really like the styles I've seen on people (in these forums) so far, and I was wondering if any fellow shorties have some tips? I'm 5'1 and have gained weight since coming up to the college I'm at. 115 to 145 Sad I started at a size 6-8, and now I'm more around a 10+ (I think? How do you actually determine this? I've been the same size for like 3 years...). I guess what I'm asking is; where do ladies get their jeans?! I can't seem to find anything that fits, and I have a limited budget. I usually go to thrift stores, but I am honestly a fish out of water here. How do you determine a good fit? I don't have a flat stomach, are there jeans that actually fit over this? I feel like i keep finding things that fit in the front but only go halfway up the rear :I

Does anyone know brands, or ways to figure out your jean sizes for ladies? I need stretchier brands if possible (I got a bit of the booty going on now. Never had NOTICEABLE hips before!).

In addition, I'm starting to work out again (that's a main reason why I gained so much) and I'm worried if I buy new clothes, I won't be able to wear any in a few monthes time. Does...anyone have tips for this?

Basically, only 1/5 of my clothes from before I moved fits and I've been trying to add new things. I'm in a college town so if I have to wear sweats nobody cares/notices, but I'd like to feel pretty and sassy again Sad

Hey Inky (call I call you that? You're going to need a nickname eventually and its sounds better than IAC, imho. Up to you though), it sounds like the two of us are a really similar size!

I'm 5'2, and I swing between 125 (when I'm eating well and exercising) and 145 (when I'm really depressed) usually staying around 130. Likewise, I have a pretty thick waist (seems to run in the family) and a larger ass, which makes most jeans unfortunately display the entirely of my invisible tramp stamp (and more) if I sit down.

I don't wear jeans all that often (more on that later) but I have one beloved pair--Levi's 524 Too Superlow. Don't ask me why "Superlow" translates to "actually covers my ass" but there you go. They're skinny jeans, yes, but they're the most comfortable skinny jeans I've ever worn, not skintight or tight at all but definitely have a slender silhouette and look lovely with flats or boots. They're not marked as a petite size, they're actually juniors, which is okay because most places have very few flattering petite options anyway, and they do none of that bunching around the ankles that I get with most jeans.

I'm really not sure what size they are anymore, I know I wear something between 7-9 depending on brand, so I can't give you sizing advice, I just know that they usually fit me at most of my weight fluctuations, but once I get over 140 they no longer work.

That all being said... I know you asked for advice on jeans, but the greatest advice I have about finding clothes for changing body weights is to not focus so much on jeans. I found it really humiliating to fit into my favorite pair of pants one day, and be unable the next, but the majority of my wardrobe, which is based around dresses + tights or leggings, was much more forgiving, always fitting and not looking much different even after those 20 pounds. Nice jeans are an investment, so I guess I would advice you to maybe hold off on purchasing them until you are at a weight you think you're going to be staying at. I don't know if dresses plus leggings would be at all your style, but it was really reassuring to me to have a lot of other very pretty options where I didn't have to worry about whether or not they were going to fit.

I'm 5'0" and have a really hard time finding jeans. Before the baby, I was 148, small boned so no one really believed I weighed that much, and in a size 8-10 depending on brand. Sizes will vary depending on brand. There's no hard and fast sizing that I've ever found. I'm curvy, as in I have a small waist and large hips.

I pretty much can't get cheap jeans anywhere. I got a pair at Nordstrom in the petites department that fit wonderfully. I wore them so often, I wore them right out. A bit frustrating because I paid more than I think one should have to pay for jeans, but I did wear them almost daily. Not Your Daughter's Jeans was the brand. They are pretty good for tummies and rears, and the pair I got was stretchy. If you can find them cheaper than new, maybe give them a try?

(I haven't actually tried buying any clothes since the baby was born. I weigh 126 now (being pregnant was the best diet ever!) and have been able to wear my old size 6-8 jeans around the house, but my body's changed shape and I'm not sure what will work for me now.)

I also am short (5'2", and I don't keep a close eye on my weight so I have no idea how much I weigh, I would be guessing, but I think similar to you guys) and I really like going the dresses-leggings route for looking put together. I have a lot of coloured jeans and I cuff them, and I tend to wear tank tops underneath my shirts so that my pants can be gappy without showing my underwear.

Oh, I just remembered, ModCloth (yes I know their clothes are often low quality for the price) has this useful feature where you can search for clothes that have been ranked highly by people with (or close to) your measurements. (And reviews there are plentiful, comprehensive and honest.) Their clothes lean towards 50 Shades of Manic Pixie Dream Girl, so I'm not sure how much you would find in the way of jeans, but it might help to find some well-fitting pants. Plus they have a very generous return policy.

I'm 5ft 2 and... significantly fatter than all of you! (hi-fives self)  Heh. I'm pretty much something between an extreme hourglass and a wilting apple, if that makes any sense - so lots of soft bits I'm used to trying to pour into stiff denim!

Anyway, I generally find that higher-waisted jeans tend to fit me better - something that comes up to just under my belly button, for example.  If you've got any stomach paunch at all, jeans which cut through the widest part of that will always give a small appearance of an overhang.  Which you might not mind at all, and many people rock that look just fine.  But if you want jeans that fit over the stomach, look for ones that have a higher waist.

Steering away from high-fashion, trendy styled ones tends to help, since they are often cut in very basic, shapeless ways outside of all the fancy extras.  Jeans sold as skinny jeans tend to also have a lower waist than most, and a narrower one - with the waistband sitting at the lower half of your hips but still sized as though it was at a higher and narrower point in the body.  Straight leg or bootcut jeans tend to be better shaped for me, personally.

Generally, your best bet is to treat jeans as an investment - a good pair are tough, will last forever, don't need washing that often and can be worn with anything.  So a couple of pairs of decent jeans in colours that match the majority of your wardrobe will see you pretty well sorted overall.

That said, I know all too well the pain of jeans that seem to fit the front right while being baggy at the back, or visa versa.  I think the worst pair I ever wore managed to be tight at the stomach so I got a bit of an overhang, but still had a couple inches of open space at the waistline above my butt - it looked like I wasn't so much wearing jeans as failing to pour myself into a denim-coloured vase!

*edit*

On modcloth, they also have that handy thing where people post in photos of themselves wearing the clothes and give their measurements and the size they bought - all different shapes and sizes of people do it, so it's a great way to see how something will fit on you.  And you could always go on Beaucoo, search for people with your measurements, and see what brand jeans some of them are wearing.#

*edit edit*

One thing to remember is that denim stretches and softens a little after the first few wears/first couple of washes. So if a pair of jeans feel slightly tight when you put them on, chances are in a month they will fit you perfectly.
