I thought it'd be useful since we've got people learning all kinds of things to make a summary thread of people willing to help if others are struggling, and what subjects they can help with.

I personally can attempt to help with:

Mathematics
Physics
Biology
Chemistry
Basic programming in C++,java, php, actionscript (flash) or javascript.
Bad humour (not recommended!)

EDIT: Nice, we're pretty diverse bunch Grin

Ouuuuu, I like this idea!

Writing/editing/grammar (American English)
Assorted Lit stuff
Pet care (dogs, cats, rats, chinchillas, hamsters, gerbils...I've owned a lot of different ones and used to work for a pet supply store that was huge on employee training)
Video gaming while female (all personal experience, just something I've put a lot of thought into)
Working in retail and retail management
Christian/Pagan/New Age stuff (not an authority on any!)
Depression/anxiety issues (personal and side study)
Small talk and getting along with a diverse group of folks/opinions
Finding things to do in a small town
Living with parent(s) as an adult

I can give *some* advice pertaining to livestreaming online. My computer prevents me from doing it often myself, though; so a good chunk of what I can recommend is filtered through folks I'm friends with who do so more regularly.

I can talk somewhat on addiction as well - something else where I'm not a professional but I've some life experience and personal study that might be helpful.

There's other things that I have at least enough knowledge/experience to discuss, but not necessarily enough to feel comfortable listing. I'll edit this if I think of anything else, though!

Skills: The Office suite with a focus on Excel and Access. Relational databases. SQL and VBA. Yard care. DIY / home repair. Personal and professional financial planning. Ballroom dance.

Knowledges: Economics. Relational database design. American football. Ice hockey. RPG with a focus in d20 systems.

Experiences: college. Grad school. Divorce.

Did anyone have a plan for how requests are made? If someone wants to ask a question feel free to pm me. But if we have multiple experts on a topic a thread might be a good idea.

I have some experience with both, although my nonprofit experience is more on the maintenance of status than getting it in the first place and fundraising is more on the grant seeking side rather than individual donations....

I think PMing is a fine idea--and if this forum works the same way as the old one, people can address a PM to multiple people.

Starting threads is totally all right too, of course, but then you're not guaranteed that the people who've offered their skills/knowledge will happen to see it.

Perhaps a combination of both? Post a thread and PM people who you'd particularly like to hear from, based on their post here, to ask if they'd weigh in?

What kind of paperwork are we talking about? Technically I have a corporation, although most of the paperwork type stuff was organized by my accountant and a lawyer. (First advice: Seek the aid of a business accountant and/or lawyer. Wink )

I would welcome technical questions - mainly computer and car stuff, but not limited to those fields. I know remote diagnosis is difficult and I can't do anything hands-on with a 40,000km-circumference planet separating us, but I'd be happy to provide useful tips if I can.

One example of how I've put my skills to use, off the top of my head:

I had a problem with an air conditioner outdoor fan running constantly. I opened up the outdoor unit and, without going into too many details, I fixed it with a $7 part from an electronics store! :-D

Still good stuff. I have an umbrella group to get us through the applying stage. Obviosly, the first step is going to be file incorporation, apply for non profit, get business licenses etc. Once I clear that hurdle, I may have some questions.

So, here are mine:

Professional:
*It's ethically not cool for me to go around providing legal advice, and I definitely don't want to be anyone here's lawyer! That being said, I've practiced law in the US for about 10 years. I can outline general principles of US law and provide some guidelines on various rights when dealing with authorities, and I have a lot of practice at helping people sort through whether they should write a nasty letter or think about hiring an attorney and filing a lawsuit.
*I took the LSAT, graduated law school, have passed the bar in three different states, and have worked at a big firm, a smaller firm, and for a company. I'm happy to share experiences from all of those with anyone interested!

Experiences:
*Moving from a small town to a large city.
*Moving from a large city to a small town.
*Eating disorders and recovery. Bulimia is my specialty, but I know a decent bit about anorexia and general body dysmorphia as well.
*Buying and selling real estate and vehicles.
*Adulting, especially when it's hard and you're not naturally inclined toward it.
*Negotiating relationships with difficult or controlling parents. This is very much a work in progress for me, but I have some practice in on it.
