"Morbid Self-Attention"
Full quote:
"I don't believe one should devote his life to morbid self-attention."
That's from Taxi Driver. Just rewatched it. Fucking amazing as always.
But this time, that line caught my attention. It caught my attention because that's all I ever do. I only obsess and brood over all the negative aspects of myself. I beat myself up for all the mistakes I've made in my past. I believe that my past is the reason why I don't deserve a happy future.
I don't want to end up like Travis Bickle, I'm already starting the ascent to his level. I'd never kill people, of course, but I don't want to become completely antisocial like him, I don't want to be despised by every person I know. I don't want to be completely isolated and hateful the way he is.
I dunno if this means anything, but for some reason that line clicked with me. I don't know if things are going to get better, but I don't want to be like this any longer. I'm tired of being hated, I want to be loved.

Here is something you can try that I have heard from others is helpful: keep count of how many thoughts you have about yourself and how many you have about other topics for 1-2 weeks. Just a simple tally, not the topics or anything. Later you can try to see if there are situations or patterns, but first ypu need to figure out what is going on. Depression and anxiety tend to make people very self focused, so quantifying the extent of the problem can be helpful to addressing it in the future.
