Over the years I've found a few of these kinds of tests, but this one has got to be the best one I found. Just a word of warning: it does contain some strong language.

So I thought I would see how you guys do on it.

If, like me, you get something that's between two alignments and you still want to place a vote on the poll I've put in this thread, feel free to choose which alignment you think fits you better.

4 chaos, -18 evil and 12 balance!

Neutral good! Which sounds... a bit dull, sadly.

-10 chaos, -12 evil and 11 balance!

I'd like to think that the fact that my chaos score is only moderately negative means I won't be too naive and "lawful stupid" Razz

-12 chaos, -15 evil, and 12 balance. Lawful Good. Looks like I'm one of the dummies. Ah well!

(My friend once played a Lawful Good paladin and, after some rather poor dice rolls, decided to put his lowest stat into intelligence. Needless to say, a LG paladin whose warhorse was smarter than him was a fun character.)

No surprise there. I've scored True Neutral on every D&D alignment test I've ever taken.

-10 chaos, -6 evil and 10 balance put me somewhere between Lawful Good and Lawful Neutral, so I went with the latter.

I usually come out Neutral Good but as a game designer I do think a lot about systems and their value ... Razz

Another true neutral (which we seem to have a fair few of on this board for a score that's supposedly rare!)

Lawful Evil: -15 chaos, 12 evil and 2 balance.

I am the Military Industrial Complex. Laughing But that's looking at it from a tabletop roleplay perspective.

Actual me is closer to Lawful Good: -7 chaos, -9 evil and 4 balance.

But Lawful Evil is much more fun to imagine sometimes, heh.

I'm gonna say CE, just 'cause. Test started feeling too much like video game forced morality.

Another true neutral (which we seem to have a fair few of on this board for a score that's supposedly rare!)

I'm gonna go completely off topic here, since I've had this bouncing around from a few other alignment discussions I've been in recently.

The usual alignment tic-tac-toe board is evenly divided, implying that 33% of fthe population falls into each category. You see a lot of tests based on the assumption that people are evil, many based on the idea that Lawful (or sometimes Chaotic) people have an easier time being Good. And then you have ones that either assume wide neutral (you have to be extremely devoted to a cause to break out of Neutralville) or narrow neutral (Neutrality requires a fine balancing act, with any tendency towards one side or the other earning you the G,E,L, or C as appropriate.)

So since we're all a bunch of nerds here, what's your take on wide vs. narrow neutral?

Eh, as I found while answering the multiple-choice questions (and I agree on it being forced morality), I view (project?) the state of the world as random, chaotic, and unfair—and consequently see no intrinsic value on laws created by people no less flawed than myself. Honor, dignity, and integrity are to me not intrinsically Lawful concepts (I may have something resembling a "code", but it is not formally defined or externally judged), so it makes a certain kind of sense that I landed in Neutral by answering some things as a Lawful person might and other things as a Chaotic person. Meanwhile I have a hard time imagining anyone seriously answering most of those questions in an "evil" way unless they were deliberately playing a role or otherwise skewing results in a certain direction. (The one place you might get evil points by accident is the love/sex/money question, but I'm personally not convinced that simply wanting any of those is an evil thing.)

Personalities are messy and host a range of contradictions. One might argue that almost nobody's really "good" or "evil" all the time. Yet a category only seems meaningful if elements can be sorted such that some belong to it and others do not. So I'm comfortable labeling anyone who is generally good as a good person, regardless of occasional/lesser sins.

Post by Lemminkainen Thu Oct 02, 2014 3:22 am

-2 Chaos, -21 Evil and 11 balance-- Neutral Good, which is fairly consistent with my self-image, I think.

I heard an interesting take on how to give the D&D alignment system more in-depth meaning once. The author suggested that we should interpret the law/chaos axis as being about how you make ethical decisions (with law corresponding to deontology, neutral to virtue ethics, and chaos to consequentialism), and the good/evil axis about how large the circle of people who you care about behaving ethically towards is (with good people caring about the welfare of sentient beings in a way that's not very gradated and evil people caring about a very narrow group). What do you guys think?
