Is this a date?
I was just asked to coffee by an acquaintance/FB friend. We had both challenged an ignorant post by a third FB friend, and she initiated a private message, thanked me for being a decent person, and said it would be fun to get coffee and talk. She is in a relationship, but I suspect it is somewhere on the monogamish side.
I feel like I just got asked out on a date, but it's also entirely possible she just wants to be better friends too. How can I clear this up without being insulting if I've read this totally wrong? "Is this a date?" could be quite a bit awkward if it was not.

Re: Is this a date?
My gut says not a date. What I would do is go to coffee and if you decide you like her as more than a friend, ask her out on a date. If my gut is wrong, then during/after coffee it should become more clear. Your safest bet, though, is to think not date and be pleasantly surprised if you are wrong.

I'd also guess not a date.

OK, I'll leave it to her to make it clear.

Re: Is this a date?
I'm of the belief that unless she explicitly and clearly said the word "date", it's a date.
However, from what you've told us, it doesn't sound like she did that, so I wouldn't count it as a date. After all, you said so yourself, she is in a relationship. Just treat it as two people hanging out.

Turns out, this was a proto-date. She asked me on a real date today. Explicitly and clearly. It's all above board too, monogamishity confirmed. I had a hunch.
