Ugh. There's no good reason for anyone to be denied entry to the United States.Wondering wrote:Canadians denied entry to the US, fingerprinted, and photographed.

There's a bill before the House for the US to pull out of the UN.
I just...I can't even. If you thought Brexit was bad, just wait.

"The American Sovereignty Restoration Act of 2017 was introduced on Jan. 3rd. Though opponents are alarmed, versions of this bill have been introduced and rejected for years."
Twitter explainer says this, dunno how soothing that is.

It's not soothing. Everything the GOP tried and failed at for years, or didn't bother to try, because Obama was president will now be on the table for real.

I marched on Saturday and am hoping that the energy can be maintained over the long slog. If the tea baggers managed to become a force to be reckoned with, Borg we can too.

They also did it during the Bush era. Granted, the environment was more hawkish then, but America also went around the U.N. when launching the Iraq War, so that was also a perfect moment to pull out of it: http://www.snopes.com/us-pulling-out-of-un/

I was suggesting that the tablet was equating "we" with the Borg collective

You know, I hear this a lot. This comparison of Trump to Bush Jr. Statements like, "Well, this is just like when Bush was president."
Bluntly, I find such statements incredibly naive. Trump is not Bush. He is no one that went before him as president. Thinking that things can get no worse under Trump than they did under Bush is setting yourself up for a world of hurt. This man is not a president. He is a demagogue.

Is it too early to refer to Sean Spicer as the head of the Ministry of Truth?

Once the doublespeak has become policy, no holds barred
And I am debating moving to Poland. My family there is scared and forming self defense militias. We remember Russian rule all too well. I think I am tempted because I am a person who has struggled with rage my whole life and an existential crisis for my kind of home is possibly my best channel.
But can I leave my clients, especially now? I wish there was a free lunch

Re: Politics and Current Events
I don't know where we would move. Both my husband's family and mine have been here since Revolutionary times (barring my one Norwegian ancestor from the 1880s and one Irish ancestor from the potato famine days), so it's not like we have claim to move anywhere else. And getting Canadian resident status so that we could get healthcare is really hard.
What we need is healthcare. I have been thinking about moving semi-seriously, but I don't know who would take us.

Be on the lookout for aScientists March near you. I know Portland, Chicago, Seattle, and the Bay Area are holding them. Other cities will likely join

Trump just signed an executive order purporting to keep "radical Islamic terrorism" out of the United States.

We are a nation of immigrants who slaughtered, displaced, and forcibly relocated what remained of the indigenous population. Let's not forget that part of the story.

What is notable is the countries not on his list, namely Saudi Arabia, Egypt and UAE, sources of a goodly number of high ranking al Qaeda and ISIS leaders and followers. Guess which countries he has business interests with: https://www.bloomberg.com/graphics/2017-trump-immigration-ban-conflict-of-interest/
