PSA: To all PayPal users Empty PSA: To all PayPal users

Post by Robjection Sat Aug 29, 2015 8:42 am

I checked my inbox today and I found that I had received an email from PayPal telling me that, because one of my purchases violated its terms and conditions, my account has been limited and I need to go to the resolution center within 2 days or it'll be even more limited.

Already I'm a bit suspicious. First of all, the only things I've used PayPal for are Mutants & Masterminds gamebooks and games on Steam. Nothing that would violate any sane terms and conditions. Secondly, I spotted a number of grammar errors in the email. "we found that some of the activities yοu are viοlating yοur agreement with us." Pretty sure you're missing some words there.

But, against my better judgement, I clicked this "Resolution Center" button, discovered I wasn't logged in and so went to log in. And then I saw the URL for the login screen and it was not the sort of URL I would've expected from a login screen. In fact, this was exactly the kind of URL I was told to beware of in my Computer Security classes at university!

In conclusion: nice try dodongo, but I see through you like a ghost! And if any of you get an email in your inbox from PayPal with the subject mentioning payment reversal or the email mentioning your account becoming limited, do not trust it! In the meantime, just to be safe, I'm changing my password.
