Okay, I'll put skulls and incense and dark pentacles on my shopping list and pencil it in for three weeks from now

Put some fancy bread on the shrine too, I always show up for that shit and I'll be hungry from the journey to the surface
edit: oh wait, isn't this actually a show about demons or something? Too on the nose

I'm not sure it's a thing that's ever going to get answered
And no it's not about demons. Probably. <_<

Re: Ajin: Demi-Human
- Episode 5:
- Setting him up to be captured and tortured, damn that's cold. And a little like ISIS being boosted by the anti-Muslim sentiment and harassment in the wake of their attacks, relying on peoples' hatred and fear to help their propaganda.
The scene of him completely bandaged and bound while the scientists sound so normal and casual while they're slicing into him. And then the sounds.
Ohhh, so Tosaki isn't an ajin, just Shimamura. And him threatening her like that! And what was his plan? Those two just got a whole lot more interesting.
Is...the man in the hat harvesting his own organs? That's way creepier than if he's killing people for them.
Holy shit, man in the hat's fighting. Arm gets a tranq dart? Arm off. Too many, oh well, bullet in the brain. More action scenes, pls!
Professor Ogura is wonderfully hateable.

Episode 5
- Spoiler:
And now you see what I mean about The Hat and what happens when Ajin finally start understanding what they are. Harvesting their own organs to pay for weaponry, cutting off his own arm and then shooting himself in the head to prevent tranq darts from working. And the way he just fucking carries himself with that disarming smile on his face

Re: Ajin: Demi-Human
- Episode 6:
-The Hat everything terrifying and awesome
-The Hat and Kei almost casually killing each other in an argument juxtaposed with the killing of the human medical person, really highlights how his thinking is becoming alien.
-Kei's different attitude towards strangers-because-they're-human versus the oddly surface-seeming feelings towards his sister. I'm glad they're getting into, at first it seemed like some of it was just awkward writing, but clearly it's a thing, that lack of connection but also some kind of caring, the focus on human-ness.
-I hope nice medical guy made it
-The head thing and are you still you if your head renews! And maybe that's got something to do with why The Hat's ghost has that anvil head.

Re: Ajin: Demi-Human
I think you're far enough into it that I can safely bring up that theory I mentioned earlier
Also, The Hat, The Hat, The Hat, THE HAT
- Spoiler:
Me and the people I watched it with were thinking that maybe Kei is a sociopath. Like he's just aping what he thinks he should be feeling rather than really feeling it, except in Kai's case.
If you remember when they interviewed his mother too, she seemed oddly disinterested that her son was an Ajin, and in flashbacks she wanted Kei "to be a good human" or I think the translation was meant more to be like an upstanding person. She wanted him to have good optics.
And then with the doctor, he didn't show any emotion when he thought the guy was dead, but once he found out he was alive, Kei did some cold calculations to justify saving him (and maybe a bit of "this is what a good human would do").

Re: Ajin: Demi-Human
THE FUCKING HAT!!!
- Spoiler:
- Hmm, that does make sense, he certainly seems to be a bit lacking in empathy, I'd think enough to fall under sociopath. And even with Kai, he's very attached to him and obviously cares a lot about him, but it is a slightly bloodless-seeming kind of caring, I don't really get the impression that he relates to or understands how it works on an emotional level - like, when he decided to set off on his own, he wanted to protect Kai and I think recognized that Kai would be angry about being left, but it didn't seem like he exactly understood how it would hurt and worry someone to be left like that.
But OTOH, he does seem to care quite strongly about behaving like a good human, not just about appearing to be a good human. It may be imitative, and based on his mom's concern for optics, but he keeps to it when it will do his image no good and do himself quite a lot of harm, it matters to him. And he doesn't show a lot of other sociopathic traits, like lack of conscientiousness, aggressiveness or poor impulse control - the opposite, in fact.

Re: Ajin: Demi-Human
- Spoiler:
It could be a trait of his Ajin-ness or having his personality split to account for some of the missing or "off" traits of a sociopath. His black ghost seems to run wild whereas the other characters so far have been able to deliberately control theirs. Or maybe involves goal-orientation too? Dude wanted to have a respectable social position in being a doctor, which would require a certain degree of fitting above average social norms

Re: Ajin: Demi-Human
- Spoiler:
- I read it more as he wanted to be a doctor because he wanted to embody that idea of above average respectability/goodness, the doctor achievement wasn't the important part.
People don't always perfectly fit types, anyway, he could be an unusual sociopath or someone with the low empathy but a different psychology.

Re: Ajin: Demi-Human
- Episode 7:
-Prepare yourself... for what??
-The Hat "feigning rage is fun." Brrrrr.
-I'm enjoying them putting the pressure on Tosaki and getting to see more about how he rolls even if the fiancee in hospital is pretty cliched.
-Satou goes to the media!?? Holy shit, he's brilliantly unpredictable!
And that's a lot of Ajins. Not quite an army, but a good start.
Also, Werel, it's been three weeks

Re: Ajin: Demi-Human
- Episode 1:
-Ahhh, Ajin discovered in the nation of Africa, my favorite country
-The animation IS a little artificial-looking on the first episode, but I AM TRUSTING YOU that it gets better
-If there are really 46 Ajin in the whole world, how does Japan have 3 of them? Do they occur disproportionately in countries that are making shows about them?
-Kai. Kei. Our protagonists Kai and Kei. How many episodes until I stop mixing up their names?
-With Enail on "government hunts special kid" being a pretty worn premise, but your recommendations haven't sucked so far so I'll keep going

- Spoiler:
- The animation sucks the whole way through, or at least as far as I've gotten, but you sort of get used to it.
And come on, everyone knows Tokyo is the centre of the universe!

Re: Ajin: Demi-Human
- episode 2:
- -Oh nice, the shadow homunculus that parrots his words/thoughts is pretty neat, definitely a fun upgrade from Just Plain Immortal. Wonder how long before Kei figures out that he better be careful what he says?
-Ajin hunter man's glasses are cool
-"We aren't human." Is he implying that he and his assistant are also Ajin, or that public servants aren't human? I buy either interpretation
-Hmmm, what's that kidnapped schoolgirl gonna be doing later in the show I wonder
-Curious what's coming in episode 3 that y'all are so excited about

Re: Ajin: Demi-Human
It's "Chapter 0" so before these events, but I'd probably wait until I'm finished with this season to watch it
It's an extra OAV type episode that came along with a manga volume
