If you were getting rid of undesireables, why not just execute them?
- Spoiler:
- Two theories:
1) I think Ymir referred to her own titan-ing as a "punishment" at some point, so it could be that they think this is somehow a more fitting punishment for people's crimes/sins than just killing them off.
2) It seems like the titans are a manufactured threat designed to keep people living in fear and confined within the walls in order to control them. Several people from the interior have alluded to the idea of "building a paradise" inside the walls. If people are fearing for their lives from the titan threat and the walls keep them safe, they're more likely to just accept their lot in life (e.g. poverty/hunger), because at least they're alive and things are peaceful. And also more likely to be thankful for the government and other authority figures for keeping them safe. This reduces the chances of rebellion and war over social issues. So making titans and keeping them around as a threat serves the government's purposes.

Re: Attack on Titan
E52
- Spoiler:
-ohshit, they killed Marco!?! (Also, sure makes the regular titans seem less scary that the only named character to die of the new scouts in that fight wasn't just a regular casualty)
-Also, I really wish they'd give some kind of cue when it's a flashback, it always takes me a while to realize it and I get confused
-Annie's expression that they have to kill him
-"have you become attached to this evil race or something?"
-Annie's father?
-holy fuck, just taking his gear and leaving him to die is so much worse than if they'd killed him themselves. Especially when you remember how freshly horrifying being eaten by titans seemed back then
-Reiner asking why Marco's getting eaten, he was doing that disassociative thing even back then
-Titans keep in line or get eaten to pass their powers on
-the horse-titan can talk, that's so freaky
-holy fuck, that looks like his human head is really blown apart, could they actually have killed him?? The bottom of the head at the spinal cord still looks somewhat intact though, so I'm not convinced that's a kill, the nervous system transfer thing could have saved him.
-Connie and Sasha just hunkered down crying
-Not too dead to scream
-Tossing Bertholdt in a barrel to explode out and smush them all
-"If I agree to talk, would you all agree to die?"
-Wanted to know if he'd start begging for forgiveness if he faced them again, I guess that was why he seemed so scared of having to face them back when they'd kidnapped Eren
-"You are precious comrades to me. I also intend to kill you."
-When the fuck did Bertholdt get to be a good enough fighter to shrug off Mikasa??? (Also, Mikasa's really fallen to the Worf Effect, she barely ever does anything useful/successful anymore. Levi's still fine, though.)
-FUCK! Did he get Hange??! Nooooo, I won't believe it till we see her die (and maybe not even then)
-oh god Reiner inside the Titan with half his head dissolved, those googly eyes
-Did Titan Bertholdt always have those freaky long arms??
-suddenly Jean's getting so much screen time and talking, it's like he thinks he's an actual character or something

Re: Attack on Titan
- Spoiler:
I think Jean actually does get decent screentime, he's just got such a forgettable design that you completely forget about him and even his name. Like he was at the core of that mini-storyline where they were all afraid of killing fellow humans last season.

Re: Attack on Titan
53
- Spoiler:
- Armin's panicking, Jean is okay at reading the situation but not at making plans
- God damn, the Beast Titan is mashing up rocks and killing them shrapnel
- He's pitching them like a baseball player and mentioned a Perfect Game, an IRL baseball term. Another hint that the modern world happened
- Levi and Erwin aren't afraid even when boulders are raining down on them
- Jesussssss, the size difference between Eren and Bertholdt
- OH SHIT HE PUNTED EREN UP ON THE WALL
- His steam venting is so powerful that it pushes back Thunder Spears, basically RPGs
- Attack him from above, guys
- Annnnd Reiner is walking again, they are absolutely fucked
- Welp, the only way they can get out of it is if Erwin and everyone else dies
- Erwin doesn't want to die because he just wants to be a nerd in the basement
- Levi making the choice, telling him to give up on his dream and die
- Oh man, that Erwin speech while Levi is using the line of Titans to get to the Beast Titan
- HOLY FUCK THEY GOT FUCKED UP
- NO DON'T END THERE FUCK OFF
- FUCK OFF
- Rewatched the charge again, Erwin took had the lower right side of his torso taken off, RIP guy ;_;

I watched episode 53 on a dissertation-writing break, but didn't have the energy to do commentary.

Re: Attack on Titan
E53
- Spoiler:
-Conny's terrible pun
-Armin tries to give up command. I'm glad to see him getting some development and his skills getting used, but it's seeming like it's going to be an awfully predictable character arc. Also, I still don't buy Jean's an actual character! (Armin should just promise Sasha a potato if she comes up with a brilliant plan, she'd totally spontaneously become a strategic genius for food )
-somehow Beast Titan completely slaughtering the troops by baseball-pitching crumbly boulders feels too ridiculous to be properly dramatic and tense. But why does he know so much about modern things?
-tiny Eren grabbing that massive ankle like a mouse trying to fight a person
-everyone being surprised he gets kicked, what else did they think Bertholdt was gonna do??
-"You massive pervert lord" I love Sasha
-man, that steam blast is so useful, he barely ever needs to do anything else
-new scout freaking out and no one has any comfort or hope to give
-Levi's actual facial expression when Irwin says he doesn't want to die without going in the basement
-all the dead comrades standing around them staring accusingly
-"I'm making the choice. Give up on your dreams and die. Lead the recruits straight into hell." Leviiii
-Levi slicing through the titans one by one towards the Beast Titan
-Irwin agreeing that they're all going to die and it's totally meaningless, fucking brutal
-insisting the people who died before them's death had meaning and trusting the living who follow to find the meaning for them
-IRWIN! NOOOOOO
-DON'T FUCKING STOP THERE!!!

Re: Attack on Titan
Ep. 54
- Spoiler:
-I was thinking since the last episode that the line of titans around Beast Titan was awfully convenient for Levi, which makes me worry that it's a trap.
-HOLY SHIT, LEVI!! That was masterful!
-Bah, stupid quadruped titan ruins everything.
-I like the shot of Levi slicing his way through titans in the background while the camera pans down to the people on the battlefield.
-Armin has a plan!
-Armin doesn't want to die until he sees the sea, Erwin doesn't want to die until he sees what's in the basement... I feel like a lot of dreams are going to be crushed today.
-Ugh, the melting flesh is so brutal. Between that and the rock-throwing, it feels like the creators were thinking, "Hmm, we really need to add some variety to the gruesome deaths in this show. Cannibalism is getting boring."
-Hange!!
-Oh hey, we haven't seen Eren fighting in human form for a while.
-Wow, they got all three of them out of their titans. And they sealed the wall too. Things are getting awfully optimistic for this show... let's see how they manage to get 10 times worse again.
-And aww, we never got back to Levi and Erwin (assuming he's still alive). I don't wanna wait another week!

Re: Attack on Titan
BTW, did you see the after-credits scene at the end of the previous season?
Ep 54
Ep 54
- Spoiler:
- Perfect transition into the intro sequence
- Bowling pitch
- That guy being all "Holy shit is this how I'm gonna die/what's my cutie-pie waifu doing right n-" and he's dead
- HOLY
- SHIT
- LEVI
- Slices up his arm, cuts his eyes out, jesus christ
- What a fucking monster
- And he's hoping Erwin's alive so he can give him the Titan Juice and then they can eat the Beast Titan and take his power
- And that four-legged Titan is on the move
- Now Levi is def gonna take the Titan Juice, he was steaming in the after-credits scene
- Armin's got a plan, noticed the Colossal Titan is skinnier
- Eren falling over has got to be part of the plan
- Reiner's still fucked up so he doesn't quite realize what's happening
- RIP Potato Girl (but maybe not)
- Oh god, Armin burning alive
- Hange-chwannnnnnn
- Holy fuck, Mikasa rocket-launching Reiner out of his Titan body
- There it is, he crystallized to make his body look like it's still there
- OH MAN RIPS BERT OUT OF HIS NECK
- It is so fitting that Human-Form Eren is the one who defeats the Colossal Titan, calling back to his original charge in the third episode I think it was
- Yep, saw some of the end-credits scene in the episode preview, herewego

Re: Attack on Titan
E54
- Spoiler:
-"You're not like your father, you've got to try and enjoy things."
-Bowlcut wondering why he's not in a comfy bed somewhere sleeping in like his friend beforeen his head gets smashed in
-I just can't get over how weird Beast Titan looks with that enormous body and tiny head and massive, spindly arms, I completely lose immersion every time we're focusing in on him. It was alright when he was just a distant mystery in the early seasons, but the close-ups are killing me
-But that moment where his human eyes widen when he sees the scouts still charging, just for a second, horror or something mostly-dead in the soul that hurts, before he goes back to looking down on them
-LEVI! GO!
-SLICED OFF HIS FUCKING HAND
-Levi just ripping through him him down slice by slice, he's a fucking monster
-"Come on, enjoy this more"
-Sword through his mouth before his human body even hits the ground
-Desperately hoping just one person (Irwin) survived to be a Titan and steal the Beast power
-FUCK!!!! HOrse Titan out of nowhere!!
-Levi's completely blank "wait." before he powers up with rage again
-The line of titans falling in the background while a single soldier sits wondering why they're alive, that was a great image
-It's weird how Colossal Titan's thinness is only in the arms, his torso is still massive, is that what's going on with Beast Titan too?
-Armin comes through with a plan!
-"We'll just have to kill him," there's the ice-cold, murder-happy Mikasa I've been missing
-Reiner's still got some consciousness, I thought he was kind of operating on remnants and nervous system control only
-Armin promising Eren he's gonna see the sea, he's not intending to survive, is he
-About to launch the final, dramatic plan and Eren falls off the wall (totally part of the plan, though)
-Yes! Armin! Use those smarts!!
-Bertholdt's expression thinking Armin has no plan
-His flesh charring and burning off in strips, this is brutal
-falling, burned up, thinking of the sea
-HANGE!!!
-Mikasa rocket-launching Reiner right out of his body
-EREN! THey fucking used his crystal armour thing as a decoy!!! THat was fucking brilliant!
-The way he just rips Bertholdt right out
-Little Armin's not losing was not running away, his child self would be proud
-his body like a charcoal statue, I didn't really think they'd kill him off in spite of the death-flags This has got to be endgame at this point, there's only like 7 scouts left

Re: Attack on Titan
E55
- Spoiler:
- The Beast Titan saying he's stuck in all of this too.
- Fucking Demon Levi at the top of the wall
- Oh shiiiii Armin's still kickin
- Love letter for Christa-chwan
- Ohooo, they were all taught the ins and outs of the Titan Juice
- Mikasa's all cut up because Armin's dying
- Fucking Reiner gets away because of that goddamn Horse Titan
- ERWINNNNNNNNNNNN
- The end-credits scene on the rooftop
- Everyone giving their emotional arguments. Armin came up with most of the bright ideas (legit never noticed that), Erwin's the demon that will destroy the Titans, Hange surprisingly talking down Mikasa because everyone's gonna die at some point in this fight, the Ocean
- ERWIN GOD DAMMIT
- Even Kenny gets a say via flashback, everyone's got something keeping them going, Levi already released Erwin from his and now he wants to bring him back
- God, Bertholt yelling to save him while they're feeding him to Armin, this is so fucked up
- Next episode: FINALLY, THE BASEMENT

Re: Attack on Titan
Ep 55
- Spoiler:
-"We're both victims of your father." Ominous!
-"You've been brainwashed by him." Even more ominous!
-But Eren's dad had lost his memories of his life outside the walls when he came to the city, didn't he? So the person Beast Titan knew as Eren's father may not be the same person as the man who lived inside the city walls. Then again, if Beast Titan knows about Eren, he must have had contact with Eren's dad more recently. How long had Eren's dad been communicating with the titans outside then? Did he get his memory back at some point? Okay, enough premature speculation...
-Just a whole slew of titan corpses in Levi's wake
-"Let's call it a draw, Levi. We're both in no shape to fight." Heh, you might not be. I'm sure Levi's got some fight still in him.
-Armin's still alive (barely)? How??
-Oh yeah, I've been wondering about what happened to Ymir. Is she dead or alive now?
-Oh shit, the quadruped titan got Reiner! Man, they just cannot hold onto a captive titan or get anything useful out of them.
-Oh hey, there's Erwin. Well now they've got a decision to make. Which strategist do they save?
-Aaaaand scene.
-If this ends with no one getting the injection and Bertholdt getting away because they waste all that time bickering, I'm gonna be so pissed.
-So your argument for saving Erwin is that he got everyone killed so that Levi could almost-but-not-quite take out the Beast Titan? Versus Armin who sacrificed only himself, got the wall sealed, and let you actually capture Bertholdt.
-Oh, nevermind. Your actual argument is "Death is too good for this bastard who led us to our doom!"
-No wait, now it's "This guy is the devil, so he must be the only one who can save us"? Make up your mind, dude.
-Ugh, even if it's supposed to be for the greater good, watching Armin eat Bertholdt is just horrifyingly gruesome, and part of me is surprised that everyone's just going along with it, even though of course they would be.
-Finally getting to the basement next week! Time to learn some shit!

Re: Attack on Titan
E55
- Spoiler:
-both victims of Eren's father??
-Why are the titans Levi killed skeletons??!!
-Beast Titan will be back to save Eren
-Armin's alive, and Reiner's not sounding too good, but he's talking; apparently nothing is 100% deadly other than being a mentor figure
-I guess even Hange has a breaking point where science falls by the wayside
-How the FUCK is that horse-titan so quiet that it got the jump on them?? They fucking lost Reiner too, if they lose Bertholdt I'm gonna smash something
-IRWIN!! But FUUUUUUCK, they've got to decide between Armin and Irwin
-Levi, if you've gotta go with Irwin, do it fast, if you hesitate too long and they both die I'm going to jump through the screen and smash the fucking syringe
-Mikasa drawing her blade with that completely shell-shocked look on her face
-Levi's so fucking unimpressed, it kind of made me LOL even with all the drama
-Mikasa's shaking and sobbing, but one hit to Eren and even Levi's instantly on the ground with her sword at his throat, newbie's got guts for standing up to her
-honestly, the argument for Armin's smarts seems stronger based on the examples they give, Armin basically pulled off everything he tried
-Thought about killing Irwin but let him live to go through more of this hell, or maybe just he's the demon they need to defeat the titans
-Mikasa just wailing like a baby while Hange holds her back, and then the quiet way she just lets go and slumps down in Hange's arms, because she knows Hange's right, you lose everyone
-Eren's little squeak-sobs as Jean carries him off, having had the chance to save Armin makes it so much worse. But I kind of think they're doing a bait-and-switch, and Levi's going to save Armin in the end
-IRWIN FUCKING KNOCKS HIS HAND AWAY
-omg, Armin as a titan is the most ridiculous
-Bertholdt screaming to the scouts to help him, I'm 50% "eat that asshole's fucking brains out, Armin" and 50% "oh god this is horrifying"
-Levi quietly asking the newbie to forgive Irwin for being a demon, he had no choice
BASEMENT AHOY!!!

Re: Attack on Titan
Ep 56
- Spoiler:
- -I have to wonder if Armin will be psychologically scarred by all this or not. He became a titan against his will, for one thing, and his eating Bertholdt was pretty horrifying. The morality of all of this is fascinating to me, but I wonder if the show will bother to take the time to explore it at all, or if it'll be a case of "We're in a dire situation, so we can't afford to be contemplating the broader ethical implications of our choices." I assume it's the latter.
-It's interesting that the serum seems to affect memories even before the transformation up to a point. Armin doesn't even remember his noble sacrifice. This feels like plot convenience to me (since it allowed the show to keep secret what happened to Eren just prior to his transformation), but I could also see how there could be a semi-plausible physiological explanation for it.
-Ugh, they're dragging it out of course. Just get to the basement already!
-Lol, the key doesn't work. At least Levi is sensible.
-Time to hunt for clues!
-It's like they're in an escape room trying to find all the hidden compartments.
-Enough with the dramatic pauses!
-A photograph? What is this sorcery?
-Hmm, what are those armbands? Looks like some kind of enforced segregation against a certain group of people?

They told Armin and he's suitably horrified and let's just walk to the basement as slowly as possible and JUST GET TO IT ALREADY
Huh, so if we're reading into all the German names and now the very-similar Nazi-era armbands, we're looking at the Titans being Jewish revenge?

Re: Attack on Titan
E56
- Spoiler:
-Sasha's injury looks pretty bad, but she's not a death-flagged mentor, so hopefully she'll be okay, comic relief characters dying is the worst
-the art looks weird using thick outlines all of a sudden now, it seems out of place and almost looks amateurish, that's the kind of thing you need to commit to all the way through, not just take up 50 episodes in (I think they may have done it a bit the last couple of episodes, too, but it didn't bug me as much in action scenes)
-Eren just holding onto Armin and shaking with sobs, while Armin has zero idea what's been happening
-Levi looks like hell, even more so than usual
-now that Armin's a badass titan, he gets to show off his abs
-I guess Mikasa gave Armin her jacket, shirt and harness is a cool look for her
-Armin being sick over having eaten Bertholdt (oh god, if he vomits too much, will he lose Bertholdt's powers? )
-Levi ordering Armin not to regret the decision, not sure that's how feelings work, Levi
-that eerie, tense but also melancholy feel as they're walking down in the ruins of the city
-why is Eren apparently wearing the same shirt he wore as a kid in the flashback?
-the key doesn't fit the fucking lock?! They've been teasing us on this moment for 50+ episodes and they're faking us out again?!!! The key better fit something important.
-Levi's as impatient about it as I am
-the celebration seems so jarring and wrong after that slaughter of a mission, with the handful of traumatized survivors standing there watching
-there's a thriving humanity somewhere out there
-Armbands with stars on them. I was assuming the rumours of anti-Semitism about this show were based on something a little more subtly metaphorical, whether it's true or not. Writers sure do love to have Jewish people committing holocaust-like atrocities in response to persecution. There's often a whiff (or more) of anti-Semitism in it, but isn't always (Magneto when done well is a good example of avoiding it imo); given the setup I think this one has a fair bit of potential to go worse than most, but we'll have to see.
-the time period's making me wonder if the Scout uniforms were designed by someone from outside.

Ep 57
- Spoiler:
- There's so much information being thrown around in this episode that I feel like I'm going to have to watch it a couple times and reflect on it for a while before I can really piece this all together.
-This episode is filling in a lot of the background behind the images in the season 2 outro.
-Ooh, we see an image of the titan wall being built.
-Aha, there's Zeke.
-Zeke playing with the gorilla doll isn't ominous at all...
-Some of the faces of the people getting thrown off the walls look familiar, like titans we've seen in the battles near the beginning of the series. I appreciate the continuity there.
-And Dina-titan's the one that ate Eren's mom, if memory serves.

Re: Attack on Titan
57
- Spoiler:
- Pretty extreme info-dump. If I caught all that, theJewsEldians made a deal with the devil to become Nazi-Titans but theGermansMarley defeated and subjugated them and in turn acted like Nazis but the Nazi Titan part might have been lies and some kind of Founding Titan refused to fight and made a Titan-pen and basically said "Don't come around here or you'll get fucked up.
- And yeah, we've seen a number of those Titans before, I think. Zeke as the future Beast Titan, Dina ate Eren's mom, I'm certain we've seen the one that ate the psychopath guy before (which means this takes place on Paradis?)
- Also we're back to being horrible for horrible's sake, and the mangaka was justifying it through that Grosse guy or whatever his name was. Really ham-fisted and cheap story-telling.

Re: Attack on Titan
E57
- Spoiler:
-the way that the other officer was acting kindly while a child gets beaten felt creepy enough that I wasn't surprised the sister ended up dead
-Ymir made titans in some kind of deal with the devil? Does that suggest that the Ymir we know is one of those Nine Titans that the original titan-maker Ymir split into? Or it just became a popular name after the original Ymir.
-Also, it's weird how they're clearly making the Eldians Jewish, but Ymir is about as not-Jewish a name as you can have, and the absolute only character who has a really Jewish name, Levi, doesn't seem particularly associated with the whole issue. Just the author trying to create (not very) plausible deniability about the real-world connections, or is there a purpose to the naming?
-founding of the three-walled city
-for some reason, the scene where they're teaching Zeke history makes it look like they just grabbed him and crammed all of their education into his head in one night, I found it weirdly funny
-the ultimate punishment is turning them into titans and setting them loose to threaten their own people
-"I promise I'll come and find you" isn't too reassuring a promise from a soon-to-be-titan
-Oh shit, Eren's father's first wife's titan ate his second wife/Eren's mom, I've heard of bitter exes, but this is a bit much /
-they can choose the size of the titans they produce
-so only Eldians can become titans? or is that meant to be another propaganda thing? If I'm following everything so far it's seeming like Reiner & co. are more likely to be Marleyans than Eldians, which would mean it's not true.
The Jewish metaphor stuff isn't great, but at this point it's not looking like "oh god, this whole show has been a long-game anti-semitic fable" so much as a cheap and clumsy attempt to add a real-world punch to a typical questioning good and evil theme. I'm not particularly impressed, but I'm a little less worried than I was about where they were aiming.

- Spoiler:
- Recalling Ymir's backstory, she was taken in by a cult as an orphan and declared as having "the blood of the King," so I'm guessing the cult named her Ymir after the original titan. So basically, she was part of an Eldian titan-worshipping cult, which is why the Marleyans rounded them all up, injected them with the titan serum, and sent them off to Paradis. That's my interpretation.

- In this episode, the Marleyans were recruiting Eldian volunteers to inherit the powers of the seven titans they have control of, stating that they would be "warriors" and honorary Marleyans. I'm guessing Zeke, Reiner, and the others are all working for the Marleyans in this capacity, but by blood, they're Eldian.

- Yeah, I was kind of getting the sense that the writers are just using the visual shorthand of "Nazis as oppressors, Jews as the oppressed" to draw a historical analog to their fantasy world rather than explicitly making some kind of social commentary on anything in the real world.

Re: Attack on Titan
E58
- Spoiler:
So if I'm catching all the implications here:
- The world outside the walls still exists as it did before, and this series is taking place on Paradis, with the Titans being law-breaking Eldians who've been tossed onto the outskirts of the island, which is outside Wall Maria.
- The Founding Titan doesn't want to fight, mind-controls the Eldians to change their memories of history so they don't remember what the outside world is, and each time the Founding Titan rises, the host ends up agreeing with them.
- Zeke is likely an agent of Marley trying to gather up the special Titan powers to act as Marley super-weapons
- Eren's Titan, the SHINGEKI NO KYOJIN (YOSHHHH ), has always been a fighter, was passed on to Grischa from The Owl/Eren1 and passed onto Eren from Grischa. Eren might not actually be the Coordinate, but Dina or one of the Royal-Blooded Titans are and Eren can access their powers that way (I got a little lost here)
- Grischa seemed to want to kill all the Marley with Titans, Eren wants to kill all the Titans. That flip of hatred
- And apparently the Shingeki No Kyojin memories might not be time-locked, he mentioned Mikasa and Armin by name before handing off the power to Grischa without realizing who they are and that they weren't even born yet
I sorta liked the setting more with the idea that the Titans wiped out humanity, kinda hoping that still happened instead of this just being Titan-island

- And apparently the Shingeki No Kyojin memories might not be time-locked, he mentioned Mikasa and Armin by name before handing off the power to Grischa without realizing who they are and that they weren't even born yet
- Spoiler:
- So the very first episode of the series is entitled "To you, 2000 years in the future" and now I'm figuring this time-crossing has something to do with that. The origins of Ymir and the first titans were stated to have occurred 1800+ years ago. I imagine this is relevant in some way.

- Spoiler:
-"thank you for your concern. You sure didn't seem to care while they were cutting my fingers off," the cheerful intensity of his sarcasm
-Oh shit, Eren and Armin have time bombs ticking
-Mikasa saying "nope, it's not true" and the others just ignoring it and carrying on talking, like it's just so expected she'd be in denial and there's no point in trying to shake her from it
- now that we've got an answer to what the Coordinate is, I've completely forgotten when we heard about it or why we wanted to know
-is it just me or does Hange seem really weird in the scene where everyone's telling her she didn't hear Eren say "attack titan"?
-Mikasa looks like hell
-Ymir's been gone for like 2 seasons and now she shows up to write a love letter, it's kind of funny the way Ymir was obsessed with Christa but they never even made it clear that it was romantic, and now they're jumping straight to "I wish I'd gotten to marry you."
-Is the fact that Ymir says she's going to die soon meant to mean she's one of the Founding Titans, or is she just being executed soon or something? Her Titan didn't seem exceptional enough to be a Founding Titan.
-Christa gets memories in the letter and keeps quiet about it
-I think I've been following everything about the world and what various people are trying to do with the titans and who has what powers how and so forth, but I got confused with the bit of Eren being able to use the Founding Titan's powers by touching a royal Titan. He's never shown any sign of using a different titan's powers otherwise, has he?
-"love someone"
-WHAT?? Owl dude talking directly to Eren specifically??? He has future memories/?? This shit is getting weird. I didn't remember about the first episode name, though, that makes it seem like everything might be just a massive long-range plan from the original Ymir.

- The terminology they introduced in these last episodes was confusing, but I had the impression that the term "Founding Titan" was being used to refer to just the royal family titan who established the walled city on Paradis, so I've been referring to the nine titans that the original Ymir split into as "The Nine" to differentiate. And I think each titan who is sentient has the power of one of the Nine (Eren has two: Attack Titan from Grisha, and the Founding Titan that Grisha ate). Which means that Ymir has one of the Nine's powers now, having stolen it from eating Reiner and Bertholdt's friend, and so they'll want to pass that power on to someone on their side.

- Spoiler:
- They said in an earlier episode that the Founding Titan's powers (which seem to be memory manipulation, command of other titans, and being able to see past memories of humanity) only activate when they're held by someone with royal blood. So while Eren is holding those powers, he can't actually use them himself, so they don't manifest.
