Not a lot continuing or Season 2ing. There's Made In Abyss movie, and a Goblin Slayer movie that I'm over, but who knows when that will get properly released and subbed. I'll sample the usual amount of "most things" but this might be a good catch-up season for other stuff.
EndlessA. Pokemon
EB. One Piece
Continuing 1. Black Clover
C2. My Hero Academia
C3. SAO Alicization (? It should be continuing but isn't listed as a leftover)

Re: Winter Anime 2020
So is the Made in Abyss movie instead of a second season? Though, to be honest, I'm not sure I want to see how much more trauma they'd inflict on their viewers in a season two...

Re: Winter Anime 2020
Oh, and I guess there's hour-long re-cuts of re:Zero coming out before Season 2 to fit the 24 episode season into one cour. I meant to watch Season 1 but never did, so I'll probably watch those instead. It's an issekai, some kid gets randomly whisked away to a fantasy world where if he dies, time reverts back to the first day he arrived.
Maybe the Madoka side story too

Re: Winter Anime 2020
I didn't notice the re:Zero thing. Being a sucker for time travel, I'm fairly interested in that one, but one hour episodes tend to be too much for me, so I'm not sure.
Otherwise nothing's particularly grabbing me, so I'll most likely just go with suggestions if you have any. But I might at least glance at:
-ID: Invaded, the world where physics doesn't work right is an interesting concept
-there's something about the setting designs of Dorohedoro that catches my interest, but it doesn't otherwise seem like my kind of thing, so I'm not expecting much.
-Kuutei Dragons, everyday dragon-hunting and cooking seems like it could be a fun combo, and the dragon designs looked cool
-the psychological mysteries aspect of Housekisho Richard... sounds interesting but the trailer did nothing for me, so I'm not sure if I'd check it out or not.
-I apparently started looking at these earlier and wrote down Pet and Somali to Mori no Kamisama, but I don't remember why, so maybe either of those.

Re: Winter Anime 2020
Looks like Alicization is going to continue at a later season. Dat room on the list
The original first episode of re:Zero is a double episode anyways, so the first episode release at 50ish mins is probably unchanged. I remember that episode being pretty slow but people do swear by the series so I'm gonna give it another go.

Re: Zero Shin 1
Yeah, more or less how I remember it, it's got a nice hook by the ending but it takes a long time to get there
- Spoiler:
- "YOU LUMPS OF EXP"
- Waking up on the furry's lap was one of the horrifying things that probably didn't get me coming back for episode 2
- "Your guts have such a lovely colour" Grosssssssss

Oh, also looks like Kuutei Dragons is batch-releasing all at once, unless this anime schedule I have is wrong

Magia Record: Madoka Gaiden is absolutely going for recapturing the Madoka Magica aesthetic. I'm kind of impressed for what's an adaptation of a manga that's an adaptation of a phone game
Nice mystery too
Nice mystery too
- Spoiler:
Presumably the main character girl cured her twin sister's disease, but it was maybe a disease caused by being twins so they recombined into one person and thus is erased her twin's existence?

Pet Episode 1
I'm a minute in and it's already fucked up, we might have a winner
Intro by TK from Ling Tosite Sigure too
This kind of reminds me of Kokkoku (that anime we watched about the people who could freeze time just in case you forgot the name of it, which I totally did but luckily I had the opening theme saved ). Like it's not really close to the same subject matter at all, but just the feel of it is somehow similar.
Thaaaat outro sequence too

Re: Winter Anime 2020
Has anybody watched "Keep your hands off Eizouken"? I'm very confused by the previews. Every website talks like it's about a group of teenagers getting into the craft of animation, but then the trailers switch to them flying away in an ornitopther and i don't understand if it's going to be metaphorical or it veers into fantastical adventure.

I skimmed through it but the animation style turned me off so I never got much of a feel for what it was doing

Not anything special, but I really love the late '90s JRPG aesthetic, so I'll probably continue this one

Re: Winter Anime 2020
Re:Zero 2 was similar to the first episode, it takes awhile to get to the point but the point is enjoyable. It's a little wordy, like people speak in three or four sentences at a time instead of one or two. The action is fast but feels like it doesn't have a lot of weight (similar to how Black Clover's best action scenes feel). Good plot twists but I'm worried about the next time the main character dies and how much of the same scenario I'd have to see over again.

Re: Winter Anime 2020
Bofuri: Itai no wa Iya nano de Bōgyoryoku ni Kyokufuri Shitai to Omoimasu/Bofuri: I Hate Being In Pain So I'll Make A Full Defense Build Ep 1 is super cute and super dumb and I love it. It's about a video game newbie playing a VRMMO and she decides to put all her stats in defense and accidentally figures out how to game the same and make herself unkillable, but at the cost of being super weak and super slow.
- Spoiler:
She ends up gnawing the first boss she meets to death because it evaporates her knife and shield

Re: Winter Anime 2020
Pet E1 - Yep, that sure is fuuuuuucked up. But definitely going interesting places, this seems like one to watch. It does kind of remind me of Kokkoku, but also of Ajin. Characters don't seem that deeply-developed or sympathetic, but they can get by because it's a cool concept that it seems like they're gonna use in cool ways.

Re: Winter Anime 2020
Re:Zero Episode 1 - once it got to the hook, it was pretty interesting, but before that was sloooowww. There were a few amusing bits with subverting the isekai cliches, but aside from that and the hook, it all was the usual cliches, and the characters and their relationships are really generic so far. If it streamlines the resets after this episode and keeps going hard on plot and using the premise well, I think it'll be worth watching, but it can't let up on those elements or it'll be too much the same old characters doing the same old things I've seen a million times. Also, the double-episode makes it long for me. Not sure if I'll be able to keep up with this one or not.

It's like Judge Dredd/2000 AD, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Fallout all mixed together with magic and ultra-violence. What the fuuuuuck

Re: Winter Anime 2020
ID:Invaded E1 - weird as fuck, but in a cool way, though it honestly gets less interesting as things become more explained, it's the total confusion that's most intriguing. The art style is kind of ugly, and the characters almost feel non-existent in terms of personality or presence, like they're just stand-in mannequins to tell the story with. Still, I'd be interested enough to watch more. But this is being a surprisingly good season so far, so I suspect I'll land up cutting it.

Pet E2
Yeah, I think I saw ID's art-style and nope'd out of it pretty quickly
And yeah, this season is surprisingly solid, I've got 7 additions to my list and two re-additions (catching up with Gegege no Kitaro and gonna give Phantasy Star Online another go)
- Spoiler:
- Sounds like creating mental images is some new fandangled power
- And apparently the younger guys are more powerful than the older one
- "As easily as lighting a cigarette" and he fucked with him so he thinks he's smoking when he's not
- Ooo, the driver was the little kid from the beginning
- The fucking mouth on her vagina
- And the way he seems to mentally view women
- That was a really interesting way to showcase how their powers work and they can play around with so much imagery because it's all in the brain

Re:Zero's third episode, I kind of remember why I stopped watching it the first time around. It takes forever to get anywhere interesting, and the time spent on "forever" is mostly just bare-basic harem-anime dating-sim stuff.

Re: Winter Anime 2020
Damn, I watched the second episode before I saw that, I probably wouldn't have bothered if I'd seen it first. That shit's so generic and tired, I was assuming maybe the plot would get going and focus more on interesting stuff by episode three, but if it takes them more than three double episodes to get there, they're probably not skilled enough to make something worthwhile even if it does someday.
Re:Zero E2
So I guess I'll drop this, stick to Pet and maybe ID: Invaded or something else if I get a chance to check out any more before it's too late to catch up.
Re:Zero E2
- Spoiler:
-This show could definitely use some cuts to speed up the pace, even aside from spending too long on generic dating sim/isekai shit. Since we knew the premise going into it and his reactions and the storyline are going pretty much as you'd expect them to given that premise, the audience doesn't need to see every detail of him figuring out or deciding he's gonna try to use it to save Satella.
-I do like that he's getting more scared of getting killed every time even though he knows it'll just reset, usually in time loop things, people just get more confident and laid back about disaster each time, but it feels more realistic to me that that viscerally, fundamentally traumatic an experience would be something that your lizard-brain would fight harder to avoid every time even if you know it makes sense (at least till you've done it a really high number of times when you might get blase out of sheer exhaustion). But he does jump back and forth between remembering-what-he's-fighting-for-determined and terrified too often in the same fight, it makes his characterization (which isn't very much to begin with) feel inconsistent.
-He's also way too smooth at times, the way he can put on a show of ridiculous but pull it off as charmingly funny or acting selfish while still managing to show that he's a good guy deep down inside to the other characters rather than awkward and weird, and goes back-and-forth between being out of his league in fighting and easily holding his own, too. I'm always disappointed that these 'hapless everyman'-type protagonists are only awkward when it'd be funny, but whenever it actually counts, they're cool and charming and good at most things. Like, I assume that type of character is always kind of bland because they're meant to be the one you can relate to unlike the more far-out or idealized characters/waifus, but I'd relate a lot more to someone who was a little less cool even in those moments when they step up to save the day or connect with other characters. It seems like no one knows how to have a genuinely awkward and weird hero who's still admirable in this kind of fantasy, unless it's a mega-comedy.
So I guess I'll drop this, stick to Pet and maybe ID: Invaded or something else if I get a chance to check out any more before it's too late to catch up.

Re: Winter Anime 2020
Give Dorohedoro a try, the first episode was only last weekend
And yeah, the entire double episode with Ep 3 was just Subaru flirting with multiple characters, discovering a new "save point" and just at the end something finally happens (that will probably kill him so it'll start over again)

Alright, I'll give it a go if I have the chance. Not that into TMNT or Judge Dredd, so I didn't figure I should bother.

Re: Winter Anime 2020
Pet E2
- Spoiler:
-generation gap in the freaky mind-invasion industry
-the one guy starting to attack the boss in his own memory over not wanting to kill the patsy, this show is going ahead and getting right into the interesting places this concept could go instead of waiting until the audience is caught up and starting to wonder about that stuff for themselves. That bodes well for it being able to keep up the interest even if the characters never become that developed.
-Destroyed someone's valley and now their memories don't make sense
-Getting into how memories aren't just records, they're a mix of what the person experienced and their emotions, this is getting more and more promising
-And the fact that he didn't realize he wasn't lighting the cigarette giving away that he's been messed with, I get the sense this is going to be the kind of show where you've got to watch for clues and get surprised by things you realize afterwards you should have seen coming all along.
-the freaky dreamscape quality of the memories and how much they show about people's psyches
I'm really impressed with this one so far, it's showing a lot of skill in teaching the audience how to follow something that could be pretty complicated and slow to explain, and getting right into the action and quickly moving us into the story instead of spending the whole episode slowly teaching us about something in a nearly-unconnected tutorial level. And more depth than I was expecting, plus the mindscapes are really cool and dream-feeling.
