We all knew this day was coming and now it has arrived. Flash, the platform for so many games, animations and other forms of interactive content on the internet, is now officially dead. Any of those old games that weren't ported over to HTML5 or something are no longer playable. Any of those old animations that haven't been uploaded as Youtube videos are forever unwatchable.

... or are they?

In anticipation of this, a project was started in early 2018 to preserve as much Flash content as possible, as well as content from other platforms. The result is a piece of software called Flashpoint that can be found here and an archive of over 70,000 games and 8000 animations, from the classics and the greatest hits of Flash to the most obscure stuff you might not even have thought was real.

In the meantime, what are some of the Flash games and animations you most fondly remember?

One of my personal favourites (and one that sadly didn't make it into the archive) was Dillo Hills 2, a multiplayer racing game with cute little cartoon animals. The servers died years ago so preserving the game wouldn't have done much good but even after that, I still kept in touch with several other players and some of us even formed a Dungeons and Dragons group.

Oh man, I played a ton of Flash games on Kongregate, which were pretty likely saved, and all kinds of old ones who knows where that I barely remember but I feel a little nostalgia for their loss anyway. So long, old pal, you served us well. Happy tears

Would hit up Mahjong and a Tank Game way back in high school during computer classes and sometimes during lunch

Basically all of albinoblacksheep would send me down a nostalgia hole, but the original animutations will always feel like being at a friend's house after school, marveling at how fast flash animations load on DSL.
