I mean like for overall other-people-watching. There's no new strong must-see anime out this season that is recommendable and the only strong continuing anime is Boku no Hero Academia, which is Season 5 so whoever's watching it has already been watching it for awhile now.

Oh, I see, yeah, that sucks. I guess maybe it's the season to try and sell someone on one of those older things that everyone means to watch some day? This season isn't living up to what it had looked like it was going to at all.

-It's super-lazy the way the little brother is telling him exactly how his powers work without any reason to know, and lampshading the fact it makes no sense doesn't help, since he's 100% right anyway. Like, why would shaking hands with him be the trigger? It's so blatantly just a way to shortcut the figuring out part, but it's such a dumb way it feels insulting
.
-Also, preventing the two gang members from meeting a particular day is a dumb way to change the future, there's a million other times they could meet and still have the same result. Of course it has to fail, or we'd have no rest of story, but making it so blatantly bound to fail makes it feel like "why should I watch the whole episode to get there?"
-didn't know it was still forward for a middle-schooler to call their girlfriend by a short of their name without a -chan. IME, people in Japan were way more free about skipping a name suffix than they are in anime, though, so I'm not sure it's not more of a stylistic convention in anime these days.
-I did like the bit where he's realizing his friends were actually great. And interrupting the fight to challenge the big guy was good.
I feel like the core of middle school gang fights is good, but most of the stuff propping it up is really mediocre at best. I'll keep giving it a chance, but this is pretty disappointing so far for the only one that I even wanted to keep going on.

TBH I'm skipping over all the dumb stuff because it's not worth thinking about and kinda just going "Hell YEAH, kick the shit out of Senpai!"
Also, re: the naming convention, it's about making her very kawaii uguu moe~ so you can connect with her as quickly as possible and go "Well by god, I too would engage in a round of fisticuffs to save her!" (Totally would btw. When Senpai beat the shit out of him with a bat and left the bat behind I was like "Put that in the back of his head the next day and take over the gang yourself, bro.")
So in my head, I figure the mega-big plot twist of the series is that in order to guarantee Hina-chwannn survives, Takemichi will have to become the gang leader himself, ironically becoming a wildly successful criminal in his drive to save his middle school waifu.

- Yeah, that's kind of where I was picturing it going too. I'm wondering what the time frame is gonna be for the story, though, b/c at least a few years are going to need to pass in the present for 12 years ago to be when he's old enough that it wouldn't be laughably ridiculous for him to successfully take over the gang, it's just not that over-the-top a show that I could buy a 14-yr-old pulling it off unless it's by brilliant time-travel planning, and this doesn't really seem like the show to pull the latter off.
They've done a good job very quickly making her someone adorable you'd wanna save without being irritating or overly cliched, especially given that the show's somewhat hit-and-miss on characters (I find the friend group interactions solid, but little brother just seems like an unconvincing plot device) but the naming thing just seemed like it'd probably read a little too cutesy-shy for the rest of their interactions, which are cutely middle-school-y but not overly shy otherwise, gave me the vibe it it might be going past the normal level of difference between anime conventions (or at least the ones for this type of anime) and real-world ones. Not that I know enough to say, but that did get me wondering.

- At some point they manage to change things enough that in the present the gang leader they're trying to get rid of is gone but there's still gang wars and things are tense with it being unclear who's in charge of that gang, and they think Hina's killed still, but actually it's that the more he fought to save her the more it made her take her thing of wanting to fight to save him seriously until he landed up inspiring her into becoming the gang leader herself.
And then maybe she kills the guy who was the gang leader in the old timeline and then someone goes back in time to defeat her and the whole thing just becomes an endless cycle of making new gang leaders and taking them down

Or maybe the opposite: The little brother is actually the one with the powers and he's the one pushed the protag into the oncoming train to try and spur him into becoming the gang leader because once he left in middle school, she Cobra Kai'ed her way to the top of the Yakuza world

- I like that one! It would give some more purpose to the brother. And he's exactly the kind of character one's meant to accept and overlook in murder mysteries etc, so it would totally work for him to have a big secret coming.

Wouldn't you have played it anyway? If it's available for Switch I might give it a go even not having played the first one.

-dude needs to learn how to block
-The 'surviving the fight on sheer determination' was working decently and the fight wasn't bad, I was starting to feel like they made him pull it off a little too easily, but they mostly managed to save it by having it be more that the crowd and the higher-up guy were put off by the other guy bringing a bat and called it off than that he was just that badass.
-Again it's a little too much of a shortcut to have the gang leader be apparently another middle-schooler and decide to befriend him because of that fight. If it had been an older guy taking a shine to him and taking him on as a favoured junior it could have worked, but with it being someone who seems around the same age, it just puts them too much on the same level and feels like he's skipped past some things that should have been more difficult and unbalanced.
-also, seems like he should have been way more hurt from that
-the friend confessing that he was gonna stab him because he can see where this future is going, they actually pull off a really nice understated but genuine feel in the character dynamics, much stronger than I'd expected from this show
-weird that they're doing a recap in the middle of episode 3, this isn't that complicated!
-Hina taking on the gang leader, maybe she is gonna lead the Yakuza by the end of this
-the two of them both shaking in fear but standing up to the big scary guy to protect each other, these kids are adorable
-Again, too easy, it would have worked if playfully eccentric Griffith-like leader liked their moxie and integrity, but I feel like the Vice should been less totally forgiving. They keep up a good sense of constant threat from the gang but they're just making it a bit too obvious that protagonist plot protection powers are in operation, that's the kind of thing you shouldn't notice is happening this much.
-Skips out on his date to go tandem-biking with the gang leader, Hina should probably be jealous
-Wants to usher in a new era of responsible delinquents, he totally is the Griffith of middle school gang leaders
-"he regularly bullies entire schools just for fun, but he's a good guy"
They're not really going to go with making out Mikey to be a good guy who just got influenced by the other, evil gang leader guy, are they? That would be incredibly lame.
This show's turning out to be good at the things I expected it to be bad at and vice-versa. It's really not bad, but they do a lot of stuff that makes me start noticing whatever they're doing wrong instead of just getting absorbed in it so I land up thinking more than feeling, makes me critical

-Hina's really mastered that bossy-adorable thing, and without being a tsundere cliche. An adult Hina would absolutely be waifu material.
-he's so innocently excited at being in her room I was expecting their relationship to be basically just a placeholder to check off the motivation box and maybe the wish fulfillment happy ending box and probably drag down a badass revenge plot, but it's actually carrying the show (along with the friendship with his group) while the revenge plot is weaker (well, not so much revenge as just future-changing).
-held the wrong hand So the handshake was made the time-travel trigger for the purpose of doing almost Ranma-like comedy
-Yikes, Naoto wanted him to just go off and kill a middle-schooler out of nowhere (and presumably spend the rest of his teenage years in jail and probably set his whole life off course). I still don't find the "Mikey's a good guy" thing remotely convincing, but since it seems like they're going with that, looks like Naoto's a bit of a psycho.
-Changed the past so Akkun's a high-level gang-member. Interesting that Naoto remembers the prior version of the past still, being involved with the time travel thing must make him immune. It's weird it hasn't changed Takemichi's life at all, though, if it was such a pivotal event to his current life, changing it should have an effect.
-Eugh, cockroaches
-OOh, twist, subway-pusher was Akkun! Seems like he knows more than he's saying about Hina, too.
-Short-cutting to the point of inanity, Naoto seeming like he expected Takemichi to get pushed is in no way enough information to even make Akkun idly wonder if Takemichi can time travel, let alone conclude it, there's a gazillion other reasons you could come up with, and even if you were assuming time travel (which is not at all an obvious thing to assume even if you figured it was something supernatural) why not assume it's the person who seemed to have knowledge of the future who's the time traveller rather than the sap who got pushed?! Gah, this is so fucking dumb, why do they keep fucking up an otherwise pretty good show with this bullshit.
-something must have changed in Takemichi's life for the gang to want him killed.
-Akkun
-I wish they would have made the scene of him screaming and crying after Akkun jumps a little less comedic-looking/sounding, it could have been a devastating scene even after they ruined my suspension of judgement with dumb shit, because they've really managed to make you feel an attachment to these people, and a sense of responsibility, but I don't feel like they're playing his reaction well.
Aggh, this show keeps leveling up the good elements, but also the bad ones.

Ooookay, Tokyo Revengers just went a little too dumb for my liking, that's enough of that.
They described a confrontation between one of Mikey's gang and a rival gang as "They beat the shit out of him, and then raped his girlfriend etc" and I think they show the girl in the hospital later. Cartoonishly edgey just to make a rival gang out to be evil and their own criminal gang not as evil.

Bleah, I guess I'm done too then. It's weird when at first it really did a good job of showing the feeling of threat present even when Mikey's being friendly, and then they decided to just chuck it for something simplistic.

I think you already tried Super Cub and TWEWY so I'm not sure what else we should watch that we can fit into a half season-ish. The Mother's Rosario Arc of Sword Art Online Season 2 is only 7 eps if I recall.

I did actually mention it but I think we'd done the equivalent of a full season by then so you wanted to take a break from it.
Like I mention there, it's more of a side-story but it also might be the best arc overall
