Haven't really read any synopsis so far, but Sonny Boy is the only one that really caught my eye just on first blush, and mostly because it's done by Madhouse

Sonny Boy's probably the most interesting to me, too. The description made it sound like it was pretty dark, possibly even Battle Royale-like, which I find way too stressful, but the preview clip was pretty upbeat, so I'm not really sure what we'll be getting. Otherwise, it's a pretty weak-looking season. There's a show that I'm pretty sure is the exact same story as one of the shows I tried an episode of last season, except gender-swapped.   These things are so un-creative.

Night Head 2041 doesn't give you much to go on, but psychics on the run from mysterious organizations is usually a solid premise if it's done well.

D_cide Traumarei gives you even less to go on, but might be worth checking out?

Jahy-sama wa Kujikenai could be fun, I guess? Stuff like that tends to be too lazy/trashy/cliched/Mary Sue-y for my taste, but maybe this one isn't? I dunno, this is probably a stretch.

I played waterpolo in high school, so I'm very slightly interested in Re-Main, but probably not actually enough to bother giving it a try. This is really scraping the bottom of the barrel here.

Sonny Boy 1: Advanced release of the first episode, the series itself starts in the middle of July. Don't know if it's disjointed because that's how the series is or if it's disjointed because it's showing parts of the first few episodes

It's weird and the animation is both really good and really bad and the sound effects are good. I spent most of it going "Is something going to happen?" and then "Well, a little bit happened I guess."

Hm, hopefully it's just disjointed because of being clips. Doesn't sound super-promising, though, given that it seemed like the most promising of the season.

Imagine an earnest, simple-minded, passionate, shout-y shonen hero, but instead of him going on an adventure to hone his fighting skills, his adventure is convincing his girlfriend that he should also date the cute girl who just confessed to him

So, good for me, whereas I doubt it would be your jam

Sounds a little thin to make a whole story on.

Yeah, it was an entertaining first episode but I'm unsure if the joke will hold up. There's other female characters in the opening/ending so I assume the joke will be that he'll have to date them too, but they actually like the other girls and it's just a weird geometric triangle where nothing is going to work out for anyone

Feeling similar with Genjitsu Shuugu Yuusha/How A Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom. Generic isekai where the main character is using his civil servant/economics schooling to create the right kind of tax policies to defeat encroaching demon armies is kinda fun but might wear out soon (especially since I'm already watching Slime and that's coming back this season)

I can't say I'm surprised, given what the offerings looked like. I still haven't checked out any of them, so there's still hope, I guess; the only one that was out when I was going to watch something was the waterpolo one and as expected, "I played this several decades ago" is not enough motivation to get me to watch a sports anime.

D_cide Traumarei 1
Nothing amazing, and feels pretty video-gamey which the lampshading doesn't change (I think it's a tie-in for an upcoming game or something?), but also decently enjoyable. A little magical-girl-y, including a hilarious English transformation phrase, I guess they don't know what "knocking someone up" means.   I'll probably give another episode a go unless anything better comes along.

Watched a bit of Genjitsu Shuugu Yuusha, I never cease to be amazed at how much these sub-sub-genres streamline and genericize the premise and worldbuilding and characterisation into basically nothing to maximize the ...I'm not sure I'd even say power fantasy or wish-fulfillment is the word, this one's basically just there to give you whatever those phone games where you rebuild your granddad's farm and daydreaming about what you'd do if you ruled the world give you, plus waifus. But anyway, I found this one much less annoying than most of them seem to be. Not interesting enough to finish the episode, though, there's just not enough to care about.

I was giving a little look to Kotaku's guide for the season. There's a show about a pharmacist who ends up in another world so he ends up operating a weird potion shop, and some isekai about an office worker who ends up transported to a dungeon where he must mine gems as a slave to survive.

When I said I wanted fun fantastical escapism but with mature protagonists, this very much wasn't what I had in mind!

There's one I'm watching right about a guy who's working to become a civil servant who gets transported to a fantasy world and is given the crown because he's very good at crafting public policy and the Kingdom needs it to survive against demon invasions and politics

Nighthead 2041 E1 - not bad so far, psychics in a world that's banned believing in anything religious or supernatural is a neat dystopia concept, though I'm not sure it's likely to get into deeper world-building with it. Seems solid enough in storytelling and left off with some cool mystery. Feels a little like Ajin beyond the similar premise.  Definitely worth another episode.

D_cide Traumarei E2 - Eh. It's fun enough, but just too stock and lazy. Maybe it'd work for a videogame, but it's not enough for a show.  Also,

Episode 2 of Sonny Boy is finally out.

I'd say the situation itself is interesting but the characters probably aren't (I actually can't tell most of them apart so that may be part of the problem). I don't think I'll keep up with it.

Ah, too bad. Not sure if Nighthead 2041 will land up keeping me or not, otherwise I don't think I'm going to have anything this season.

In Realist Hero episode 4, the plan to bridge the time gap between when they can start regrowing crops to deal with a foot shortage is to host a cooking show to teach people how to eat things they normally don't
