Re: Winter Anime 2019 Season
Neverland 4
- Spoiler:
Apparently people who read the manga say that Krone is portrayed a lot less ridiculously in the manga
- Mama's got a handle on the entire situation, including Krone's ultimate goals, while still treating Krone as if she's one of the children
- So Norman's plan to deal with the informant is to somehow charm the informant over to their side after revealing all of the information to them
- 100 formation patterns by ear
- Mama's gotta know that they're training by now. Like you said before, it's too obvious that they're playing tag competitively
- Oh shit, I figured it was just Gilda spying, but perhaps Mama or even the informant is using the competent little ones as a way to report back
- Even Ray's a little concerned at how soon the escape plan goes down
- ... Is Ray the informant and Norman's flushing him out with a reckless plan?
- And Norman's assuming their timeline is being controlled by Mama assuming they're running on the shipment cycle too
- Walking around a house in the dark with POV low-key unsettles me tbh
- Good sound effects, though
- Oh man, Gilda is good at reading the situation, body language and facial expressions. She'd already figured out something was up.
- Wasn't Conny dead? This gets a lot more horrifying if she's not dead, because they keep acting like she isn't. Are they holding back that information for some reason?
- Me and Ray are vibing pretty well. Guess Norman is right though, leading them on like that might even give the informant pause
- He's telling Ray about the trap he's setting. He's setting up Ray because Ray might be the spy
- They show Gilda leaving the room and then a note being slipped to Mama, but they don't show that it's Gilda doing it. I'm appreciating the misdirection
- And Gilda went to Sister Krone instead? Wtf?
- KRONE GOING ALL-IN HOLY SHIT
- If she confirms it, Krone will "let only her go." No way
- "If you think Emma's lied to you, come back to me." Holy fuck, this is so fucking dirty. They're playing espionage mind-games with fucking children
- Now Krone's working on Don
- "Hey Ray, I wonder why traitors betray others." Norman guilting Ray. Ray's gotta be the fucking informant, but Ray still gave up the viable strategy that Norman hadn't considered, being spared from being shipped out
- Emma's ofc gonna save'em all
- YOOOOOOO RAY

Re: Winter Anime 2019 Season
Neverland 4
- Spoiler:
-"you have nothing to do except be my pawn" Mama's got everything under control
-damn, that was a gruesome, gratuitous doll murder, probably for the best she doesn't have a real baby
-the comedy music all over the place for Krone is a weird choice
-Norman's awfully confident there, smoking out the traitor and then winning them over
-I don't get why they aren't trying harder to keep things subtle, they're completely letting the adults see all their practice, it's bordering on frustrating
-No way does Norman really wants to do the escape so soon, it's a trap to figure out the leak. And I'm not sure Don and Gilda are the targets. Though it's a chilling point about Mama knowing their timeline
-softening the story for the newbies
-and they're still so upset
-"let's go rescue Connie" And Ray's mad they lied
-He's totally testing Ray here
-Go Gilda! But it seems like they're leading too hard here to think it's Don, just like they were leading to thinking it's Gilda before, I'm suspicious
-oh shit, Krone goes for it, but Gilda stands firm
-Of course Emma believes in everyone, even a traitor. I kind of feel like they're wasting opportunities to develop the characters more deeply or to put a little more nuance into their reactions under stress and being confronted with new and awful things, we already know this about her
-He was testing Ray, AND HE FAILED
I was starting to get a little bored, there's some good stuff but it doesn't feel like they're keeping the tension high enough or making full use of the premise, but hopefully things will get more intense and interesting now that Ray's the traitor - I just hope they're not faking us out and it's all a misunderstanding or it's an easy solution/reconciliation. Having to live with and work around - and try to save - the really smart traitor in their midst would add a hell of a challenge.

Re: Winter Anime 2019 Season
Neverland 5
- Spoiler:
- Ahaaaa, Ray's been Mama's spy for years now
- "You knew everything this whole time and still helped Mama?" "Yeah."
- Right, Norman's trying to turn him because Emma wants to save everybody, even the traitor
- Ray's been doing little things to aid them in the first place
- Ray was planning to escape all along, and was using Mama's "rewards" to figure out the limits of what he could gather
- So Ray set it up so Emma and Norman would find out because he needs their skills to escape, but he wasn't planning on taking the younger kids with them
- Oh holy shit Ray. He wants Norman to plan to abandon all the other kids (though Don and Gilda can come along if they can keep up) at the last moment without telling Emma, and in return he'll play for the team
- Oh mannn, how the fuck is Norman gonna get his way out of this one. If they can figure out a way to make the escape work, there's nothing Ray can do, but then Ray will catch on to them figuring out how to make the escape work in the first place and bury their chances
- What the fuck man, Norman and Ray both figured something out at the exact same time that will fuck Ray's plan up
- Sister Krone was a deterrent for Ray, not for Emma and Norman's plan
- HOLY SHIT RAY
- He just came out and told Emma he was the traitor
- Emma's reaction to Ray being a traitor but not one necessarily against them is interesting, because I don't think she actually believes Ray's lie that he's going to help everyone escape
- Oh jesus christ, Emma just asked him if his experiments to nullify the tracking devices was on another kid and what happened to them. Norman was trying to outwit him, Emma's just going to massacre any guilt he might have instead
- Emma almost had murder eyes on that "Don't do something like that ever again."
- A secret room
- Oh nooooo, Don's getting worked up about trying to save Conny
- And Don's heading straight for the secret room nooooo
- STOP PUNCHING THE BOOKSHELF DON
- Thank god for the lock

Re: Winter Anime 2019 Season
Oh shit, was re-watching Episode 3 with other people I've snagged into it and noticed two things I didn't before
- Spoiler:
- The kid assume it's 2015, but the calendar in Mama's room says 2045
- Sister Krone says she was thankful to be "back on this side" when Mama brings her in, and if you combine that with the way she treats the baby doll, it's potentially an indicator that she has worked on the farms before but somehow violently snapped

Re: Winter Anime 2019 Season
Neverland 5
So that basically hooked directly into my brain and fed exactly what it needed to keep me interested straight onto my computer screen.
- Spoiler:
-Norman suspected him because that would be the worst case
-he's been Mama's spy forever, and that smug smirk
-Ray's pissed off Norman confronted him instead of just using and discarding him
-but he's got to save the traitor because Emma considers them all family.
-"I want to believe that you're my friend before my enemy."
-and Ray set them up to find out about the demons
-he volunteered as a spy in order to plan the escape and asked for rewards to test out the limits of what he could get
-Not your enemy, not your ally, but I could be your ace
-HOLY FUCK HIS CONDITION IS TO LET EMMA THINK THEY'RE SAVING EVERYONE BUT NOT
-What did Norman realize?? When he was sitting on the bed after talking with Ray, all of a sudden he gasped like something else had just occurred to him
-the flowers piercing everyone's hearts
-Norman's expression when Ray just casually admits to Emma he's the spy
-Emma's brain shorts out
-Even Emma notices it's not like Ray to be fine with trying to escape with everyone, but then she's still like "Yay, glad he's doing it anyway!" For the first time I'm wondering if Emma's not as clueless about everything as she seems, maybe she's realized something's up there but is still hoping to change his mind or make it happen without him. I hope so, the "naive optimistic one who trusts everyone and everyone else keeps things from " role is pretty boring compared to the other two, even if it's needed to put Norman in the position he's in.
-she's sad for Ray that he knew for so long on his own
-Holy fuck, questioning whether he experimented on other kids causing them to be shipped out early, and then saying never mind, you don't have to tell us, just thanks for whatever you've had to do for us!!! Maximum twisting the screws on his conscience, plus her showing she can to connect the dots to the darker things herself and recognize that awful choices might have to be made, even if she's not suspicious about the saving everyone thing, which I think she is, this does a lot to help her character.
-and then those creepy eyes and "don't ever do something like that again"
-Gilda and Don starting to wonder if they know the whole story themselves, rings around rings of secrecy
-Don's already going against orders to check out the secret room, jeez that was fast, you two, they trusted you to not be idiots!
-trying to punch his way into the secret room, oy
So that basically hooked directly into my brain and fed exactly what it needed to keep me interested straight onto my computer screen.

Re: Winter Anime 2019 Season
Neverland 6
- Spoiler:
- Legit starting to think Phil is an actual spy, he's always in the right place at the right time
- Oh mannnnn, I was wondering the whole time if they were giving any thought to what the world is like outside and how to even survive outside in the first place, now they're planning a recon mission
- Don steals the key and Mama thinks something's up because every little thing any of the kids do could be an indication that they know
- Hiding Morse Code secret messages in children's books, oh my god
- Every step Don and Gilda takes = PLZ NO
- Little Bunny
- She's keeping all the toys from the kids as keepsakes?
- "Promise" OH MAN
- Emma's all happy about her hunches and Ray's just disturbed
- Don's figured out the truth's hidden from them
- Fucking Phil figured out the morse code thing again
- Mama's about to rumble Don and Gilda and then Eugene with the save (and Oh shit Mama's face when she realizes she didn't have the key)
- They finally tell Don and Gilda the truth and Don's mad that they didn't trust them or believe in them enough to loop them in, and he punches them both because they're family, man. Good guy, Don ;_;
- MAYBE PUT OUT THE LANTERN SO NO ONE CAN SEE YOU OUTSIDE
- Especially the cinematography is such that it always looks like they're being watched by someone
- The escape's still set for in a few weeks
- And Emma still doesn't trust Ray or think they should let him into the plan, she's smarter than she lets on or she has more natural "hunches"
- Distract the Sisters while they recon the outside.
- "Norman's trying to kill you." Jesus CHRIST, Ray
- Mama's face looks a little shocked and a little sad at the idea that Norman might try to kill her, sorta the same way a livestock farmer might care for the animals that they eventually have to kill for meat?
- Oh mannnnn, Ray may be feeding Mama false information but may also be feeding her his own information
- So getting Mama to replace all the dangerous or poisonous chemicals in the house, hrm
- Ray trying to subtly impress on the idea that they shouldn't get shipped out until they hit 12 years old, and Mama's not quite believing him, but still lets him know that the next ship date was put off and replaced with his 12th birthday, and Mama's face is so hard to read that you don't know if she's lying to him or just taking in his reaction at finding out he's next
- JESUS CHRIST KRONE SKGLSLKJFKLSJFJSLFJS
- Holy fuck, she got them all
- "Want to join forces" OH MAN
- Morse Code Owls at the end of the outros

Re: Winter Anime 2019 Season
Neverland 6
- Spoiler:
-picks Mama's pocket, how are all these kids so good at criminal skills?! But Mama's suspicious
-Messages from the outside in books My favourite bits of this show are when they're trying to piece together a totally unknown thing from the tiniest of clues.
-I'm struck by the way the owl in the picture has one eye light and one eye dark
-Honestly, just sending messages like "Danger" doesn't seem that helpful for someone to have gone to the trouble of on its own without giving them anything more useful than that they should be worried and questioning things, I'd be checking out the content of the books from him on the assumption they say things he'd want them to know, and maybe the morse code label is the hint to what in the content he wants them to understand in that book.
-The basement toys, with Little Bunny among them
-oh no, they're drawing conclusions about how long ago these messages were sent based on a publication date that they think is this year but is actually 30 years ago!
-why does she even need a hunch, isn't the fact that someone seems to be sending them messages from an outside world they can't investigate for themselves enough to make these important??
-Don and Gilda seeing confirmation for themselves about what Emma-tachi told them and starting to realizing it might not be the whole truth, getting (correctly) paranoid, all these layers upon layers of mistrust among the allies
-they keep showing/mentioning Phil in this episode like they want us to know his existence, and he's the one who found the bookplates, seems pretty suspicious
-Oh nooo, Mama's in her office!
-saved by a random kid
-It drives me crazy when everyone's shouting in their secret meetings, haven't they heard of angry whispers???
-I'm surprised they told Don and Gilda about Ray being a spy, that seems like more info than is necessary to give them when they've proven pretty reckless. I guess they figure they can't afford being caught keeping any more secrets from them.
-GOD, DON, can't you crazy-laugh a little quieter??!!
-Holy fuck, he just punches Norman right in the face (and is all-out shouting now). Also I lol'd that all three supposed-to-be-the-most-badass ones were completely useless in the face of one angry kid who's supposedly less good at stuff than them and was never mentioned to be athletic, I don't think.
-"aren't we family?" (I'm still with the trio that I'd have wanted to keep some stuff from them, though, seeing how they're reacting, especially Don)
-It hitting Don how powerless he is and has been
-zoom back and we're watching them through a window, like maybe Sister or someone is there watching.
-Everyone but Ray standing in the light while they're apologizing to each other and on the same page, and then Ray reluctantly joining in only when they cast the lantern light on him and include him in the circle of light. Seems symbolic.
-Emma questioning if they really can/should do this plan to save everyone and not trusting Ray, and then Norman flat-out dismissing her suspicion
-What did he see in Ray's box?? His reaction of "wow, he did all this to keep us two safe" seemed heartfelt and grateful, it makes it sound like Norman accepts/agrees with the plan to trick Emma and leave the little kids behind without the level of guilt and reservation that he seemed to have when he first agreed to it. Or else like he thinks Ray is still going to come around because he's already done so much for them.
-Sending in their double-agent for a distraction and false info while they go to check out the outside, but who knows if he'll really tell her what they want him to
-Using the fact that both Ray and Norman are injured to make it seem like they had a fight, smart! (though, I'd think Mama's smart enough to notice that neither of them have bruised knuckles, but Don has)
-replacing their chemicals
-His expression when he says the next shipment will finally be him
-I'm wondering if Mama telling him they're skipping a shipment is some counter-intelligence of her own, she might not trust him
-SISTER OUT OF NOWHERE
-omg I wish they'd tone her down, it completely ruins the tension having this weirdo spinning around like she's in a totally different show
-"Would you like to join forces?"

Re: Winter Anime 2019 Season
Neverland 7
- Spoiler:
- Norman's smirk when Krone offers to join forces
- MAN, the Mama's are livestock humans, Krone actually does want to escape but can't.
- That death implant means that the Mamas can't chase after the kids once they leave the area but also the kids can't kill them
- Also Krone walking circles around them
- Emma's hate face when she finds out that Krone was a kid just like them
- Also this confirms that Emma probably would've been recommended to become a Mom
- And Ray the traitor is what keeps them all "honest"
- There are so many fucking LAYERS to this plotting. They can't show their cards to Krone because evidence means she can take down everyone. Ray is super-important to the escape plans but wants the rest of the kids left behind and still could turn traitor on them, and Norman has to keep Ray satisfied to accomplish their goals. Emma's up to something with Don and Gilda too.
- Krone outright telling them things they already figured out. Mentioning possible solutions with medical stuff, but that's probably been replaced because Mama replaced all the household chemicals?
- THERE ARE HUMANS OUTSIDE WHO ARE EQUAL TO THE DEMONS
- She's looming over them and lets them know that she's got them figured out from what they didn't say and didn't do. And they'll tell them about "Him" the next time they show up. She's always doing things to entice the children to return to her on their own volition.
- Ray being such a nerd with his polaroid camera
- New month, Mama's totally shipping them out early
- What did Ray do to set up Krone?
- I think that was fucking Phil again who walked in on Krone searching Ray's stuff. This kid is probably the smartest one there.
- WHAT DOES THIS NOTE SAY
- Isabella threatening with the knife
- And now Krone has another note that makes it sound like she's leaving. Did Isabella get her promoted so she'll spill the beans on the kids or get her shipped out in some way?

Re: Winter Anime 2019 Season
Neverland 7
- Spoiler:
-She's got numbers too; I guess it'd make sense that surviving the human-farm would fuck a person up pretty badly
-I like how direct Sister is in contrast to Mama's subtlety, just flat-out telling them info Mama would never say, like "take it or leave it"
-the fact that girls have another option to survive could be disastrous to group trust if it weren't for the fact that everyone knows Emma would never take it. I wonder about Gilda, though. She doesn't seem like she would, but we don't know that much about her to be sure.
-adults get a self-destruct chip, and killing them is out
-Emma's look of total disgust
-Ray as the fail-safe to keep them from betraying each other (interesting that Norman was ready to go for it while Emma was the more suspicious one, I'd say it's probably just that she has more problem joining up w/ someone who sells out kids, whereas Norman's more like "what choice do we have?" )
-they're assuming that she'd rather have proof of their trying to escape and sell them out than just let them go and hope that dooms Mama, smart kids. I feel like they're getting better at navigating the existence of all these circles of trust/mistrust
-Emma talking to Don and Gilda alone, we started out staying close to her viewpoint and with the feel that she's the one person who we see all the cards of, but that's been shifting away for a while now and I think she has just as much up her sleeves as everyone else now
-tracking device sends out a signal if it breaks (not sure Sister believed them that they didn't know where the device was, they didn't react that convincingly imo, if it was new info seems like they'd have at least tried to feel it in their ear, so I'm not sure she's being honest here)
-getting access to infirmary supplies (but is the anaesthesia going to have been swapped out by Ray/Mama?)
-the way she's outright calling them on assuming she'd lie, and they're mutually treating every question/answer as an overt test or challenge of each other, when she's not being cartoonish, I like her as an ally/enemy a lot
-the existence of humans who are safe/equals on the outside, that's massive!
-oh shit, she did see through them completely (and they should have touched their ear, listen to me, kids!)
-Him
-and then the contrast with this quiet little moment between Ray and Mama, where there's just as much secrets and mistrust but it's all so under the surface and almost affectionate
-Ray does seem like he's genuinely looking for something in the photos, or seeing something that's meaningful to him, the tracker breaking aside. I sort of feel like there's a reason he chose a camera as the source of parts
-is that Phil again? There's no way it can just be coincidence that it's always him (unless the artists were too lazy to make more characters )
-What did the note say?? All this trying to play the different parties against each other with double- and triple-crosses
-MAMA WITH THE KNIFE!
-she's already being sent away? Just when I was starting to like her Maybe she still has something up her sleeve to regain control. I don't think it's a promotion, b/c Isabella said it's unfortunate, that sounds more like a demotion or a transfer to somewhere lower-status

Theory, I have called a twist or two already so read at your own risk because it could be a spoiler
- Spoiler:
JESUS FUCKING CHRIST
Theory, I have called a twist or two already so read at your own risk because it could be a spoiler
- Spoiler:
When Mama is bringing Emma back, you see the focus on Phil looking away as if checking something, and two other kids reacting with an "Hey..." in a hushed whisper. Not a look of shock or concern for their older orphan-sister, but more of a conspiratorial "this is gonna interfere with something."
Phil and the younger kids were already ahead of the curve on planning a jailbreak, the older kids were a distraction for Isabella and/or Ray. Phil is the sharpest kid there (he noticed the Morse Code in the books and even Ray didn't and he's always reading) and the Norman of his age-group, the younger kids are almost never watched as closely and Phil's fucking everywhere important.

Re: Winter Anime 2019 Season
Neverland 8
Damn, that was brutal!
- Spoiler:
-Krone doesn't want to be just any Mom, she wants to topple Mama and get this farm in particular? What's so special about it?
-That kid in the flashback, Isabela!?! Tried to escape too, I'm starting to get the sense it's nothing unusual for exceptional kids to find out and try to escape
-Whooops, Krone misjudged what her info was worth
-oh noo, little kid Krone with her doll
-She's going down fighting, at least
-her final thoughts to the kids to escape and bring down the whole world, and it seemed like Emma almost heard her
-stabbed with the flower and then it blooms and grows red with her blood
-and then cut to "gochisousama deshita"
-Ray's total fear when Mama says she eliminated Krone
-OH FUCK, DEAL'S OVER, SHE KNOWS
-his desperation trying to convince her
-w-why is he coughing?? Coughing always means something, no one ever just has a cough on tv
-"yes, this is an unfair dismissal" she's so fucking cold
-Nice work, Don! He's finally turning out useful
-"Nice to meet you, Emma, nice to meet you, Norman"
-she loves them so doesn't want them to suffer, so just give up and enjoy their happy home before being eaten
-holy fuck, Emma's leg
-"You haven't hugged me in a while, so I was happy"
-What did Phil turn around to look for??
-Norman ships tomorrow!!!
I could believe your theory. There's definitely something up with Phil, and those other kids' reactions were suspicious, too. But honestly, it'd feel a little random and unsatisfying to have the random 6- or maybe 8-yr-olds in the background being that much more on the ball than the main characters we've been following for 8 episodes, who are also much older kids who are supposedly among the smartest. That kind of age difference should be pretty significant. I think they might have a hard time pulling off whatever twist it is without it coming off frustrating or unsatisfying.
Damn, that was brutal!

Re: Winter Anime 2019 Season
Neverland 9
- Spoiler:
- Norman wearing a face of defeat
- Cinematography on Norman drawing a glass of water
- I guess the idea that Ray can damage himself and Norman can escape is workable but not ideal
- Ray's also taking it pretty hard for someone who was just out for himself
- Wowwwwww, Ray has memories as a fetus? That can't be a real thing
- Krone never saw the outside because it's all an interconnected complex, so escape means escaping into the complex itself
- The announcement that Norman's next, something's definitely up with some of the other kids.
- Norman found Krone's stuff but didn't really do anything with it?
- Building tension using every-day life scenes
- GODSPEED NORMAN
- Emma and Ray watching for Isabella's reaction when she realizes Norman's gone
- I figured Norman wasn't leaving
- OH GOD A SHEER CLIFF
- Checkmate episode
- New outro too, that's a little unusual

Re: Winter Anime 2019 Season
Neverland 9
- Spoiler:
-"I hope it's healed by your birthday, Ray."
-she even noticed the bag they threw in the bushes, this is such a devastatingly absolute failure
-The scene of Norman pretending it's fine, then silently walking down the hall to get water, and then he just drops the cup and drops to the floor.
-"Sorry, I can't do that-" "DENIED!"
-Counting on the fact they want the kids to be happy and free for tasty brains to mean security won't increase that much seems like a bit of a risky hope, Isabela didn't exactly seem to worry about the effect on their brain-flavour when she FUCKING BROKE EMMA'S LEG
-Ray more and more furiously insisting they can make a pre-escape work while Norman just calmly, almost happily shoots it all down
-"They can have my life, but I have no intention of giving them anything else," Norman can be pretty badass
-If Ray can't save Norman then what were the last six years of his life for
-Emma's super-cheery "let's break a bone!"
-Ray's expression and one second of crazy despair laughter that just cuts off and switches to "yay, let's do it" just as cheerily as Emma, brought tears of laughter to my eyes
-Norman trying to shut down this idea and the other two just get more and more enthusiastic about becoming sick and injured
-Norman finally accepting that saving everyone means him too and starting to cry
-Jeez, he's known all his life (since he was a fetus? Really? ). Honestly, if they need to be happy and safe and free to taste good, Ray should be completely inedible after keeping that secret on his own all his life and six years of cooperating with Mama
-the little kid that throws her bowl on the floor and just makes a high pitched-shriek at hearing that Norman's leaving
-The one younger kid nudging the other one to pretend like it's good news
-the older group completely gutted by it all and not even bothering to hide it (why are the younger kids so much better at this than the main bunch?? It's really starting to look like the 8-yr-olds will show up and completely save the day and leave us thinking "why were we watching those other dumbasses all season?")
-Krone's stuff?!?
-everyone pretending to be normal while Norman runs for the wall
-on top of the wall, the big wide world
-HOLY FUCK HE CAME BACK
-that massive cliff, seems like the only way out is going to be through the main complex
-ominous new ending

- Adorable kid shit
- "Idiots don't get sick" Ray
- Norman passing the baton to the ultimate hero PHIL
- Emma almost forced him to escape but he stopped her
- Holy fuck, Norman's about to finally tell Emma that he likes her but Isabella cuts them off

- No body and no death scene, Norman's still alive

- Spoiler:
-Norman does his research properly, even when he's scheduled to die tomorrow
-Ray's so upset that Norman was never planning to escape
-that hug
-Kid them are so adorable, if they're actually going to kill him here, they're really twisting the knife for us
-Ray saying Emma won't catch Norman's cold because idiots don't get sick
-the cup-and-string phone is the only thing he takes with, my heart
-Emma just tackling him and trying to deactivate the tracker and being like "fuck noble sacrifice and sending you off with a smile you're going to fucking run away whether you want to or not"
-Just as he's about to touch her face and Mama comes in to take him away, that fucking timing!!
-Mama telling Emma she'll kill her, and it's more like it's b/c she's pissed that Emma ruined the happy show than to forestall any more last-minute heroics
-Come on Phil, now's the time to bring out that magical elementary school kid super-plan
-Her little, broken "mm" sounds to everything he says
-"Mama, are you happy," and he actually manages to get a reaction out of her
-COME ON, PHIL, YOU'RE OUR LAST HOPE, DON'T LET US DOWN
-Ray just giving up completely
-And Emma just walks out. Poor Don and Gilda are completely unequipped to deal with this stuff
-Mama coming and telling her it'll feel better if she just gives up, I guess that's what she did.
-And of course now she brings out the offer to be Mama
-WAIT, the Mamas have a child themselves before being assigned? They didn't show that in Krone's backstory, but that kind of explains the doll. Also makes sense they'd want some of the former top kids to reproduce (though, you'd think they'd want to save some of the top boys for that too)
-That moment where Mama looks back at Emma and her expression softens just a little, like "I almost remember how much that hurt." The shot in the ending of the girl with the braid that I assume is young Isabella had a boy in it, too.
-Two months of total despair and Emma and Ray not talking, and now it's the night before Ray goes
-"You haven't actually given up, have you, Emma," and tHT LOOK
Goddamn. But I think there's still pretty good odds that Norman's still alive.

Want a horrifying theory?
- Spoiler:
They don't need boys, as per Ray's memories, they already have adults.
What other kind of human being would assist demons like this?

- That raises an interesting question. They draw the Mamas specifically from among the children they raise to eat, then, rather than from whatever other pool of adults they have. From what we've seen of Isabella and Krone, the Mama system basically relies on a cycle of emotionally breaking girls to grow up and perpetuate the same trauma on other children, to make them loyal and effective, making it like a harmful tradition they're invested in carrying on to survive physically and emotionally. Why don't they need a similar cycle to keep these other adults doing whatever they do?
And where do those adults come from to begin with, are they two totally separate pools (other than presumably bringing some of the other pool to impregnate the potential Mamas), and the other pool breeds its own children, or does the other pool get its new blood wholly or partially from the children of the potential Mamas?
In which case, new possibility: they're keeping Norman for the other pool of adults. He might agree to it even if it involves doing awful things because it might give him opportunities to help the escape attempt for the others, so he could appear later on in an enemy role where they don't know if he's been broken and is really against him or if he's still trying to help them.
Also, unrelatedly, this whole idea that they're trying to keep the children safe and happy so they'll be delicious is seeming increasingly weak, given that some of the most prized children regularly seem to find out about the demons and try to escape, and if they can't be easily dissuaded the Mamas are fine with using terror and despair on them (instead of, say, immediately removing any kid who finds out before they can tell any other kids and ruin them too, or letting them think they've escaped and feel happy about it and then trying to kill them before they realize they're still trapped). How many of the most delicious kids become completely inedible from this? Is this system working at all??

Re: Winter Anime 2019 Season
- Spoiler:
I think most of that's been addressed already.
- Normal protocol is to send the kids in immediately if they find out, which is part of why Krone felt she had a strong hand, the idea that they don't always send kids in appears to be rare or in special cases. The only other escape attempt we saw was of a little girl, probably Isabella, in Grandma's flashback, and she became a Mama.
- In this particular instance, there's a "him" who requires a special meal or these kids for some reason, the other plants have had poor "yields" for lack of a better word, they've never had three "high-quality" children like Ray, Norman and Emma all together at once, Isabella's plant is the highest quality one and she's all about profit over anything else.
- Also in this particular instance, Norman and Ray only found out within months of their shipping/maturation date and Emma in particular was going to be offered mother status, and Ray was a collaborator instead of someone living in fear.
That all sort of says that giving up and giving in does not necessarily destroy the maturation process of the kids as a high quality food product (even a happy child's life has peaks and valleys), and if this being run like a business, they'll also cut small corners to make a profit just like real businesses do. Grandma even seemed to mention that as long as things are in "control", everything's fine.

Re: Winter Anime 2019 Season
- Spoiler:
- Yeah, I was thinking of it like each bout of excessively unpleasant emotions floods the brain with a bitter chemical or something, so every instance of the kind of terror and soul-crushingness they've been experiencing, which is way beyond the depths of normal happy child valleys, would be ruining them a little more, but I guess there's no reason it couldn't be more about overall time spent happy vs. unhappy and just because it's a particularly intense unhappy doesn't mean it's that strong an effect on flavour.
Also, another thing occurred to me about the Mamas having babies. Getting into total wild speculation here, but it gave me a creepy thought. If someone's sufficiently maternal to make a good Mama, it seems like giving birth to their own baby and knowing it's going to be killed and eaten in a few years would give them a pretty big reason to want to rebel, even if they had accepted that fate for children they didn't push out of their bodies and feel bonding hormones about. Enough so that it seems like it'd be counterproductive to making good, loyal Mamas, and if there are only five farms and each Mama sticks around for a decently long term, the Mamas' babies can't be the only source of new kids, in which case, why have them reproduce at all? ...I'm wondering if they actually make them kill their own baby as the end of the training process, as a proof of loyalty/ability to follow through on slaughtering the children you've lovingly raised for 12 years. I could see that fitting better with Krone and the doll than just if she knew her baby was out there being raised for slaughter.

I think it's more if their children are taken from them directly after birth (I don't think Ray mentioned remembering a mother of his own), that means they could be raising their own child and never know it once they become a Mama or a Sister. And as there is no escape, which has been drummed into them since childhood, they'd rather they have a happy life with the few years they have.

Re: Winter Anime 2019 Season
Neverland 11
- Spoiler:
- Awriiight, of course they kept the plans going
- Pyromania
- Molotov Cocktails, Ray is fucking hardcore
- Is he still going to abandon the rest of the children?
- And he straight up tells Emma to only keep Don and Gilda with him
- I wonder if Mama's going to go back for all those keepsakes of the children she raised while the house is burning
- WHAT THE FUCK, RAY
- The picture of Norman and Emma ;_;
- JESUUUUUUUUSSSSSS
- Ray was humming that same lullaby that Mama was humming to the babies. It's such a low-key way of showing just how far she's into their entire psychological make-up
- Jesus christ he is burning
- "At least get his brain" Isabella is the fucking worst
- And of course all the things that could be used to put out the fire have been sabotaged
- HOLY SHIT SHE CUT OFF HER OWN EAR
- OH WOW SO DID RAY
- You little fuckers, finally we know you're in on the plan
- Norman did have a master plan after all, and even outwitted Ray
- And it's so symbolic that Emma's the one who lights the match and burns it down
- Wow, they told the other kids early
- Whoops Isabella saved the radio
- PHIL NO YOU LITTLE SHIT WHAT ARE YOU DOING

Re: Winter Anime 2019 Season
Neverland 11
That was one hell of an episode!
Damn, I didn't even notice that!
- Spoiler:
-Awesome, she used that Mama was watching her to get Don and Gilda freedom to work
-Emma's been making plans, Ray's been making Molotovs
-Ray keeps talking about "you do this, you do that," I'm starting to get the feeling he might not be planning to go with
-HOLY FUCK, RAY!!!!
-"Isn't this the greatest, the perfect-scorer with the set ship date will burn up"! Ray... might not be so okay
-he's been planning this for years, knowing it's a childish retaliation, but fuck it, they don't get to eat him (I don't care whether the deliciousness works based on length of time or intensity or whatever, Ray can't possibly still have led a delicious life if this is what he's been counting on all this time. Maybe that's his backup plan, tasting really bad )
-his guilt over letting kids die all this time and using them
-If we don't see his body burning, he's not dead, there's no way Emma would let him do that, not after not being able to stop Norman from sacrificing himself
-"if I can at least get his brain," Mama, you monster
-Just cut off the whole ear!!?!
-I knew it, she got him to get out
-She fucking caught the match
-but Mama finding Emma's ear doesn't give them much time, even if she thinks Ray's still in there, is she really going to let Emma and everyone else go over trying to save one brain that might already have gone up in smoke? I guess she is pretty confident, she might figure she can save him and then still capture them after.
-Ray's so shocked that Emma was on top of everything and is ready to go. And probably at his years-long intention to burn to death getting shut down just like that.
-he's about to apologize or admit something about why he did it or something emotional and she just slaps him across the face to stop yapping
-Wow, Emma must have figured this is what he'd plan, she's got stuff all ready to smell like burning human, that's a little scary (though, even though Ray's always got things up his sleeve and is three steps ahead, in a way he's a little predictable because he's dramatic. Norman would do whatever best lets him sacrifice himself effectively, but Ray's the kind of person who would have to set himself on fire if he's sacrificing himself, so I buy someone who knows him could have figured it out)
-NORMAN!! He thought of everything!! Of course it was him!
-Keys from Krone
-how the fuck did the four-year-olds keep it secret this long??? This seems kind of outside of the ability range of young children
-feeling Norman beside her as she approaches the wall
-Mama crazy laughing like she's going batshit like Krone
-THEY FORGOT PHIL!!! Or more likely he's the new traitor and slipped away without them noticing (either way, should have done the buddy system, kids)!
-So either he's going to tattle on them, or it's part of the plan and he's feeding her false info and then somehow they'll get him away.
That was one hell of an episode!
