Halloween thread!
Since our shiny, new forums have come to life just in time for Halloween planning to commence (or after all planning and prep is done if you're a planner weirdo like me), let's discuss!
Who's dressing up? What will you be dressing up as? Anyone throwing/attending a party or other suitably spooky event?
I bagged my plans for last year so I'm digging out the ghost costume I prepped. My makeup game will hopefully look something like this:
(sans towel on the head because honestly -- I have some white hair chalk though!)
Not sure where I'll be yet, but my BF and I are throwing a Twin Peaks-themed dinner party the Saturday prior that I'm really excited about! No costumes necessary, but I'm working on the decor and he and I already planned the menu.

That is some excellent ghostly makeup there! I'm probably going to go as a pirate, perhaps Long John Silver himself. It's hardly original, but it's the easiest costume to incorporate crutches, and I don't have time (or skill, in all likelihood, if I'm honest!) to make the cooler ideas I've got.

Re: Halloween thread!
I am incredibly jealous of exciting Halloween plans and that make-up looks so cool! The mister will be spending Halloween in the USA with his mum, visiting his big sis and little nieces. Very exciting, so cool, so happy for him and since big Sis is LOVING embracing US culture he will have an awesome Halloween.
I am distinctly lacking fun spooky things to do or excuses to dress up! I may have to cobble together an easy-ish costume, fill a basket with sweets and spend the evening giving out treats to drunk people.

Reverse Hallowe'en, what a great idea!

My wife wants to do a couples costume, which I think is really lame. (I haven't told her that.) I'll do it, though.
Any ideas on good yet cheap ones?

If you're a particular sort of lit nerd, you could do what my parents did once and go as The Old Man and the Sea. My dad got some fake gray hairspray and put on his fuddiest duds and my mom fashioned a sort of toga-ish thing out of a length of blue fabric and hung a rubber goldfish around her neck.

I kind of am a lit nerd, but not so much a Hemingway guy, and my wife would only want to be Nicholas Sparks characters.
She's just started reading Dune, after years of my urging, so maybe I can get a pair of stillsuits...

Re: Halloween thread!
Stillsuits would look awesome but possibly be a bit pricey to make happen. Bene Gesserit could be an affordable costume, but I'm stuck thinking of a not-too-expensive option for you.
Another might be Dr Frankenstein and her monster? Lab coat, mad scientist hair and rubber gloves for her, green make-up and glued on bolts for you?

That could work. I'll need tall boots, maybe...but that's the perfectionist in me.
She mentioned the matching orange/blue tuxedos from Dumb and Dumber. I wonder what that would cost. It's my favorite option.

I would bet the tux rentals for a night would not be too ridiculous if you shopped around for a super cheap place.
You could also go as Augustus and Livia Ceaser

Oh, Ceasar would be fun if you did him post-stabbing /morbid
I saw an awesome stage version of Julius Ceasar once where Ceasar came back to life during Marc Antony's famous speech and spent the rest of the play ravaging Rome with his legions of undead soldiers. It was part zombie, part Nosferatu.
Shoot, I totally forgot that an ex of mine and I went one year as Lizzie and Andrew Borden. I really enjoyed doing his blood effects.

I think I am dressing up this year. My friend and I are trying to decide between zombie Marines or nihilists from the Big Lebowski.

I'm getting a white hooded sweatsuit so I can dye it pink (oddly, they don't make pink hooded sweatsuits in my size) and some green boxing gloves and I'll be all set.

Thanks, but if we run with this I think we will just use his dress sword. Not quite right, but readily available
