Re: All Encompassing Pokemon Media Thread
Ohhh, nice thread idea :-).
I still remember playing the original pokemon red on the Gameboy back when I was just a kid. MAN did that game rock, it is a definite childhood classic of mine. My brother got the special pokemon yellow edition with pickachu. We used to trade with each other using the famous Data Cable (Wow thinking about that today makes you really realize just how far technology has went since then).
Only other pokemon games I played (from the main series) is Pokemon Diamond on the DS and the recent Pokemon X on the 3DS (an amazing realization of the franchise into the modern handheld console, really enjoyed it).
Another favorite pokemon game of mine is "Pokemon Puzzle League" on the N64. The amount of time me and my siblings burnt on that game is mind bogglingly insane, it was probably one of the most played games in the house during that time, along with smash bros and mario party. I actually have a memory of watching my brother defeat Mewtwo on the hardest difficulty setting. The yelps of happiness that came from the room that night were so powerful, that I think some the neighboorhood elders probably still remember them
Man, Favorite pokemon is a tough one. Due to nostalgia reasons I really only like the original 151 pokemons (though there are a few cool new ones that I like too). But if I had to pick a favorite, it'll have to be "Golduck" - I really liked him in the Pokemon X for some reason. I made him learn Ice beam and just plow through the NPC's teams like they were nothing. He was my "Power" pokemon, so to speak (though I am by no means a pokemon expert or anything).

My current team in Omega Ruby:
Mega Ampharos and its beautiful hair
Harvest-build Tropius is surprisingly tough
Grumpy lil' Excadrill and its neat hoodie
Leafeon, the Eevee I always wanted in Red/Blue
Dewgong may be kinda lame but I loved it as a kid
Mega Sableye (I waffle between Sableye and Spritzee as the Ominously Cute member of the team)
Poll: who here actually enjoys breeding for stats/natures/abilities? I kind of do. All that bike riding and egg-culling... mindless joy...

I've always thought about it, but I've never dared for fear of being sucked in and never escaping
By the way, awesome team! I don't know much about their stats but they look cool together!
I'm a big fan of the original generation and their remakes, Gen 3, and X and Y. I'm looking forward to getting around to the Gen 3 remakes, as that is probably my favorite generation for some reason.

Re: All Encompassing Pokemon Media Thread
I have only played Pokemon Ruby but man was that an amazingly fun game. But back when I was six to eight years old Pokemon was on tv every weekday morning before school and I would watch it! That brings back some awesome memories.
My favourite Pokemon would have to be Blaziken (if thats how you spell it, its the final evolution of Torchic). Other than that Abracadabra comes close because I always thought it was just sooo cool! Squirtle is the cutest though, I like squirtle but don't really like Blastoise much.
Funniest thing is, there is an actual Pokemon Club/Society in my university now that just got created last week or so, where people who love Pokemon gather and socialise. I didn't know it still had a large adult fanbase.

Re: All Encompassing Pokemon Media Thread
I first played Pokemon Red while my brother had Blue. Then I tried the Japanese version of Gold, but couldn't get far because I didn't understand Japanese at the time. Then the Japanese version of Yellow. I played Pokemon Pinball, Pokemon Snap and Pokemon Stadium (loved the mini games). Then I lost interest for a couple years and skipped to Platinum. And finally I have X while my brother has Y.
I was also hooked on the anime series for the first season. I didn't watch the show on TV because it aired at an inconvenient time (curse you, Hawaii time difference), and it was already too far ahead. I watched it from the beginning by buying the VHS tapes. Of course, I didn't have enough money to keep watching every episode in order past Ash getting the Marsh Badge from Sabrina. After that I would just sporadically watch an episode out of order. At one point I was like, when did Misty get a Togepi?
I can't pick just one favorite Pokemon. While it was still just Generation 1, it would have been Lapras. But then as more get added I get more favorites.
When it comes to starter Pokemon, I almost always pick the fire type. The only exception was in X, where I chose Squirtle as my secondary starter.
ETA: Anyone want to talk about nicknames?

I almost never give nicknames, but since the last generation I've started coming around to the idea. Fave naming style is "obscure enough joke that nobody will ever get it, but I will chuckle to myself about it" (e.g. my Sableye is named Tiller after one of the founding fathers of "crystal healing" ).
My little brother, on his first playthrough of Red as a kid, had a Pidgey named "Pantyhose." No explanation. Just a Pidgey named Pantyhose. Nothing's ever going to top that in my book.

Got my start in Gold/Silver so the chikorita line will always have a special place in my heart I think my favorite non-starter is probably espeon or sentret with drifblim in hot pursuit.

Re: All Encompassing Pokemon Media Thread
Let's see:
First Generation: Watched the anime, saw the first movie (will still make you cry), collected the cards, owned all three games (but never played Yellow much). This was an amazing time to be a preteen.
Second Generation: Fell out of all of it
Third Generation: Picked up Emerald just as the DS generation was about to start. Good game, derpy designs.
Fourth Generation: Got back into the games. What a great generation. Diamond/Pearl/Platinum was the last time they hit on all cylinders, HeartGold is probably the best Pokemon game period. I also read the Pokemon adventures manga around here, that stuff was really really good. I'm gonna get back into this at some point. It was around here too that I started binge watching the anime. Got through the first two generations, Generation 1 still is high quality without the nostalgia value (even the Orange Islands), Generation 2 had a lot of problems with it (a lot of filler episodes where nothing happens, the old Pokemon hang around for too long so things feel stale). I stopped just as I was getting into the third generation because it was hard to find time for it (even though the set-up for the third generation of the anime was really good. I want to keep going with it eventually).
Fifth Generation: If Black/White1 and Black2/White2 were mashed together into one game, I think it would've been the best Pokemon game. I loved the storytelling in the first ones, and how you couldn't turn a corner without one of your 700 rivals getting in your face, ready to throw down to see who the real Pokemon Master is. Derpy as hell designs though. Black2/White2 was really good from the catch-em'all standpoint, I was addicted to completing the catch lists for every are.
Ironic that Krookodile was a design in this generation, my favourite Pokemon by a lot.
Sixth Generation: Designs were much better and I liked how they integrated the old favourites from Gen 1 back into things, the online functionality was better than ever, and the new Fairy Type was a long-time coming. I thought the story and rivals didn't hold up at all though, they were barely around compared to Black 1/White 1 and the villains felt pretty weak. This is only X/Y though, I haven't played any of the Gen 3 remakes, nor do I know if I need to or not since I still have a working DS and Emerald.

Re: All Encompassing Pokemon Media Thread
Saw this thread while I was too diseased to respond to it, and then forgot about it later.
I didn't get into Pokemon at all until two years ago several friends peer-pressured me into purchasing Pokemon Y.
Naturally, I thereafter had to be The Very Best. Especially now that ORAS have been released, making it entirely possible to catch 'em all between only the four Gen. VI games... which I have now almost done... after buying Omega Ruby two months ago... and only trading on the GTS for version exclusives...
I mean, seriously. I started a second playthrough of Pokemon Y last week, after uploading everything to Pokemon Bank, because the only ones I still "need" are Yveltal (having traded it for Xerneas), Moltres, and Zapdos. Once I catch Zapdos, I'll start a third playthrough for Moltres. I don't even care about shinies; I just like the idea of having a living 'dex.
I only dabbled in player-vs-player battling, and only for a while, and I was too stubborn to ask for samples of Pokemon I didn't already have available to me via friends' safaris or Pokemon Y... so my team ended up looking like this:

Pokemon Shuffle on 3DS is a free-to-play phone game for the most part. Sort of like Bejeweled or something like but with Pokemon catching and leveling mechanics.

Your team is badass, takuan. Fitting for a Pokémon Master. Welcome to the few relatively not that many I guess and the proud too proud to admit remorse for spending hundreds of hours on a game about compulsive enslavement.

Re: All Encompassing Pokemon Media Thread
Hm. After fussing about in my Boxes a bit today, there doesn't seem to be much left for me to do that interests me at present; maybe later I'll decide I want to make a semi-competitive team again and breed up whatever it is I'm in need of (the somewhat well-known Mega Kangaskhan / Chansey / Gliscor team makes it easy to buy any needed items), but I think I'm shelving Gen VI for the time being.
I'll keep the Nuzlocke idea in mind for when Gen VII inevitably rolls out, though; seems like that'll make for a nice contrast after the playthrough I've already planned that involves importing the best possible party for type coverage and HM Slavery (Fennekin+Froakie+Chespin for the former, Smeargle*/Hawlucha/Dratini for the latter).
It's practically a given that I'll be doing at least two playthroughs, because I'll want two copies of whatever version-exclusive(s) I get so I can trade 'em for the other version's critters.
*Soak, False Swipe, Spore, and...Sketch, 'cause I haven't decided yet. Mean Look, probably, though I'm also seriously considering Noble Roar or Minimize.

Sun/Moon Anime: I just finished Episode 6. I really like Mimikyu, and the gag that Team Rocket gets carried off by Beware every time. Kinda wondering if they're ever going to do anything other than school or hang around town though. It's not much a Pokemon journey if Ash is staying in the same place all the time <.<

I played Moon. And I caught them all again.
I like that in this version, you don't really need to restart (I did anyway just so I could keep up the "living 'dex" thing, but it's really unnecessary at this point since Pokemon Bank now also tracks your 'dex). You still have to trade for version exclusives, but the "legendaries" this time around either aren't version exclusive or are capturable more than once.

Ha, my voice waifu is playing the role of Mau/Mallow in the Japanese version and I just realized it now. Because of course she is, I always end up accidentally watching things she's in anyways.
(Voice waifu because I love the sound of her voice <3
Voice husbando is Tosaki from Ajin, less because I think his voice is great and more because he's in fucking everything I watch too

Sun/Moon Ep 12
- Spoiler:
- @ Beware carrying off Team Rocket as they were about the win
- I know James' Pokemon generally all bite his head, but I lol'ed that Mareanie poisoned him and he looked enough like on that Mareanie was smitten with him
- Meowth nearly being scared to death by Mimikyu is a gag I enjoy too. No wonder they changed everything up to look kiddie, half serious Mimikyu would be a little horrifying
