So about a year back, I created a thread asking for advice about breaking up with my boyfriend. As a part of the settlement agreement between us, I need to inform you that:

Although based on the facts known to me at all material times I believed that he had stolen money from me, I did not have substantive evidence in my possession, no charge was laid by local police services, no conviction was obtained by a court of competent jurisdiction and the allegation was not determined on its merits in a court of law. Accordingly, stating that he stole from me was and overstatement and I should have stated that I believed he stole from me.

Just curious: why are you giving us such a specific, legalese sounding update?

My suspicion is that it actually is some kind of (legal or not) obligation imposed by The Ex. Legalese is my favorite form of insincere public apology, and I assume there are others who feel the same way.

Like, I dunno, maybe he claimed it was libel even though it was totally anonymous.
