"Everyone has regrets." A high school girl receives a letter from herself from 10 years in the future, telling her to keep an eye on the new transfer student.
First episode is out. It doesn't get much beyond the premise, so it does drag a little.
DEM VISUALS THO. Also it seems pretty seriously set (there's not a lot of comedy anime faces like in reLife) and romance-based.

Ep 1
- Spoiler:
I don't have much to say because I already know something bad happens to Kakaeru or whatever his name his. The first episode dragged a bit because it didn't get to the point. I liked how it kind of pushed her to do something without having regrets and how small things may linger in the back of people's minds even years later. Ganbatte!
Also it's a bit worrisome to me that Kakaeru misses school for 2 weeks and knows how to "ambulance" and fix things pretty easily
Besides kind of waiting for the pacing, the one thing I had a problem with was that if it was me I'd read all the letter immediately whereas she seemed to space it out <.<

Episode 2 was also slow, but it's been set-up for when the ending nails you
- Spoiler:
- I'm not sure I believe the character personalities too much
- Howevs that revelation and how The Letter is ambiguous and doesn't necessarily help Naho fix the problems around her was nailed home pretty hard.
- Also in the future, Naho and Suwa are married with baby, but in the past she loved Kakeru and Suwa seems to be like hovering around her but not pushing too hard. Is Future Naho trying to keep him alive, or is she destroying her future life based on the one big regret and what happens to Suwa along the way?

Re: orange
Damnit, I only just caught up to Ep1!
- Ep1:
-This series is fucking gorgeous. Not too crazy about the old-school shoujo faces, though, the eyes look kind of funny when they move.
-The intro is really generic. And starting with being late on the first day of school is not exactly original, either.
-IT'S ALL SO PRETTYYYYYYYY
-Not sure why everyone's so shocked that Kakeru laughs? They're reacting like he's been established as the ice-cold character that never cracks a smile, not a new transfer student given a chance to make friends.
-They do a good job of showing the easy comfort of the long-time group of friends and the future-nostalgia of a new friend who might be an old friend some day, with Naho kind of sitting back and letting it wash over her.
-Kakeru doesn't show up at school? HE'S BEEN MURDERED, QUICK, REVIVAL!!!
-Why doesn't she read the whole damn letter?! Who gets a letter from the future telling them what they need to avoid and sets it aside without reading it for a week????
-I find it a bit frustrating how listless and wishy-washy she is about everything. It's alright in a series that forces the character to care about things and take action anyway, like Ajin, but without that, it makes for an awfully slow, gentle show for my taste. I mean, it's clear that her character arc will involve unpicking that, but until then...this is really slow.
-SO PRETTYYYYYY

Re: orange
Lo, the fruits of my ganbaring!
- Episode 2:
-I wish my mom made me adorable bentou lunches
-They've been holding hands and staring into each other's eyes for59 minutes?! Just kiss already!
-SHE READ HALF OF THE ENTRY FOR THAT DAY!?!? WHAT IS WRONG WITH HER!!? WHY WOULD YOU STOP BEFORE READING THE PART WHERE YOU SAY WHAT YOU REGRET?@?gjiejiljr$%UJrrriaojirjiajgi!:?!
-okay, I'm done ranting now
-But seriously, if it were me, I'd have read the whole thing, put the important notes into my calendar, and then I'd double-check that day's entry each morning before going out! How can you read half a day's entry!?
-okay, now I'm really done.
-SO PRETTY
-I wish my wishy-washy-anime-heroine-receiving-letters-from-the-future made me adorable bentou lunches
-Kakeru's kind of scarily observant, which is lucky since it keeps giving her more chances to make her moves.
-It's painful watching her freak out so much about the bentou, but it also gives the show more momentum, she's not just passively 'hey, he's cute' and not doing anything without much on the line, it's really hard for her to overcome herself to do what she wants to/what the letter says she should, so you feel how important these regrets could become and the conflict between who she is and who the letter asks her to be, there's more on the line than not letting something unspecified happen to someone she doesn't really know yet.
-Her hobby is housework? That may be the saddest (but most useful) thing I've ever heard!
-oh god, these kids are so bad at conversation. I feel like I'm the one stuck in small talk hell and too awkward to get out of it
-Oh jeez, his mom committed suicide? Just give him a hug, Naho! Or say something, at least!
-She gave him the bentou! YATTA!
-Him telling her she's like a mom comes across differently now
-There's got to be more to it than just 'an accident,' b/c if it was just that he didn't look before crossing the street one day she wouldn't need to keep an eye on him this whole time, just on the day of the accident. Unless all her other regrets aren't things that snowball into the big one as I'd been assuming and it's just more "I wish I'd done these things when I had the chance."
I agree the characters aren't fully convincing, and it's still verrrry slow-paced, but her personal conflict with the letter and just how much she's struggling is making it a lot more interesting to watch.

I KNOW, RIGHT?
- Spoiler:
-Her hobby is housework? That may be the saddest (but most useful) thing I've ever heard!
- Spoiler:
I feel like her personality is like, she's a very withdrawn person and the only way she knows how to interact with people is to be useful somehow. Or like how in the first episode she wanted that specific flavour but it was no big deal to her if she didn't get it because it would inconvenience someone else and if she'll be fine either way because she can just take not getting what she wants
- Spoiler:
-Oh jeez, his mom committed suicide? Just give him a hug, Naho! Or say something, at least!
- Spoiler:
This was the moment where I sat up and was like "Oh shit, son" because there's one or two things I've already been semi-spoilered on with this and this was not one of them.
It also kind of made the slowness of the first episode more worthwhile, because we thought things were innocent and inviting him out didn't seem to be a problem and then FUCKING WHAM
I am personally proud of you for watching so many shows in a short amount of time [Holy shit, other people are watching what I'm watching ]

I...actually realized it was that misreadable, but I couldn't make myself change it to ganbaruing because it felt grammatically wrong even though it's smushing two languages together in a way they aren't meant to go so there are no grammer rules and it's fucking wrong already

Yeah, I think so too. But this seems like a really extreme degree of that. Her mom seems as indecisive as she is, so you can see where she gets that part, but to be so withdrawn that she doesn't do anything but try to be useful and go along with what other people want, damn!

Yes, it really shows you the letters aren't fucking around or slowly building up to anything important, that these aren't just little regrets of not pushing yourself to the utmost, they're things that cause suffering and leave lasting effects on other people.

I win! [n-not everything you're watching, I'm not even sure the laws of time and physics allow that, don't make me try!! ]

E3
- Spoiler:
- Naho feeling happier and then WHOOPS it turns out Kakeru dates someone else for awhile. Was nooot expecting that either.
- But she still wakes up at fuck o'clock to give him a morning wake-up, he's kind of taking advantage of her now o.O
- All those shots of soccer practice, THE ART, THE ARTTTTT
- "I want plastic surgery" x)
- I like how Naho doesn't need anything, but Kakeru still asks her what she wants
- ORANGE JUICE. ORANGE
- That was an interesting moment at the vending machine where the world around Kakeru kind of darkened. It's like he's kind of just going along with the world around him and the things he's telling Naho to do are the things he wishes he could do
- A message in the eraser cover?
- SAY NO
- Oops, Naho was too late
- Oh shit, they're reading their childhood time capsules from the past
- Some of Kakeru's regrets made their way into Naho's past message to herself
- "Why didn't he write to his future self?" FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF
- He knew he wouldn't have a future, jesus

Re: orange
- Ep 3:
-That's pretty demanding, asking her to give him a wake-up call at 5am! If it were closer to regular wake-up time it would just be a way to flirt, but 5am is a real ask! When she's already making him daily bentou, too!
-Don't say there's no guy you like! He's going to think you're not interested and go date that other girl now! She could have at least said 'maybe.'
-Though, he sounded pretty casual when he said there's no one, maybe he's not actually into her at all and he's just got a kind of flirty way of trying to be friends (or is leading her on for bentou and wake-up calls )
-He's not interested, you don't tell someone you're into that you like some other girl's looks, he doesn't seem like the type to try and provoke jealousy. Sorry, Naho, you've still got to win his heart! Or it'd be cool if actually her saving him and them ending up together in the future are totally separate things and she can't actually change everything she regrets. Hope she actually lands up falling for Suwa if that's the future, and isn't just settling for him as second place, though.
-Jumping to wanting plastic surgery just b/c he likes someone else's looks is some pretty serious over-investment in his opinion.
-Good noticing about the orange juice, bomaye, I didn't get that link!
-What was that sudden freezing up he did when they called out to him at the vending machine? There's these little moments where he reacts to something, that don't get commented on.
-Poor Naho, after she went and left a note, too.
-Mmm, those dumplings sound good!
-Reading the note from Kakeru to future-them
-And then them realizing he didn't plan on having a future. I'd suspected that already, but still... This show is so gentle and low-stakes 95% of the time, and then there's this dark thread running through it that they just barely touch on.

E3
- Spoiler:
I think he does like Naho but she's hard to read as a quiet person, so him saying "Not interested in anyone" just seemed like he was reflecting her own answer to not make things awkward on his friend. Also "I like her looks" was almost a backhanded compliment because he never said he liked her as a person or that he liked talking to her or hearing her laugh or any other lame thing people do when they describe the person they like. Also he asked Naho if it was okay if he said yes, which I think was like his roundabout way of saying "D-do you actually not like anyone because I guess I'll go out with this girl because I have nothing better to do, but I kinda want it to be you."

Re: orange
- Ep3:
- Yeah, I agree with those interpretations, but he's otherwise really smooth and flirty in his interactions with her and he's really observant, so he probably 99% knows she likes him, so it seemed like he should have been able to pull it off better than that.

Re: orange
Ep4
- Spoiler:
- "The last time we were here was for Kakeru's funeral" I thought they started in the past, that was a gut-punch
- "Kakeru always used to talk about you" We're not starting off light are we ;_;
- Animated Ice Cream for you, Enail
- This acoustic guitar date/hangout montage
- I kinda don't like how he's so blunt about asking about like the wake-up and the lunch
- Mmmmm, so Kakeru and the other girl have like a connection of being city-folk in the country I guess
- Knowing the future is still leading to regrets for Naho
- I wish the background music in this was the soundtrack of my life
- It's that scene from the start where she wished she knew what he was going to say
- She's getting mad at her future self for demanding "easy" things of her
- "Bye-bye" OH NOOOO
- Suwaaaaaaaaaa wat
- Is it wrong that it's horrifically sad that her future husband is pushing her to talk to another guy and maybe erasing their future baby in the process?
- I don't know why, but this just feels heavier than it actually is

Re: orange
- E4:
-The little bits drawn in that simple style are cute, but it's a little strange having that come in in the 4th episode with no apparent reason for new style segments.
-I totally want to eat ice cream made by robots, bomaye
-Kakeru's so damn neutral when he talks. Based on everything else, he clearly likes Naho, but his tone when he asks why she didn't call to wake him up doesn't show it at all, so it just sounds kind of jerkish. I don't blame Naho for falling prey to romance trope misunderstandings! But it does seem somehow in character for him to not give anything away half the time even when it's counter-productive.
-ARRRGHHGHHHHHH! DON'T IGNORE THE LETTER AGAIN!!! Like, you don't have to ask him out in front of his girlfriend or anything, just say hi and be friendly, you were friends before, don't just drop him because you like him and he's dating someone else! GRAIHGLHH! This show drives me crazy sometimes! Though, he's also kind of being a jerk, dropping his friends completely. Unless he's trying to give her space b/c he feels bad.
-Okay, she is trying, points for that.
-Ooooookay, scary possessive girlfriend out of nowhere, yikes
-YES! YOU TELL HER, SUWA! AT LAST, SOMEONE WITH SOME SENSE!!
-but yeah, the intersection between future-with-Suwa-and-baby and her relationship with Kakeru in the now but based on future regrets, feels pretty damn sad while Suwa's telling her to talk to Kakeru.
-And when she finally talks to him, it's standing in the street shouting at him, at least she doesn't do things halfway when she finally does something
-I wonder how many episodes we're going to get of her being ridiculously dense about who he likes. It's true to her character, but uggggghh, flimsy-obstacle-to-romance tropes irritate me.

- Doooohohohoohoo the rest of the nerd patrol is giving them alone-time
- Kakeru, you smooth criminal

- Naho might be a little upset knowing that with parallel worlds theory that she's not saving future her or Kakeru in their timeline
- Jesus, that transition to the future ;_;
- Tragic texts
- Dohohoho Kakeru bringing her lunch
- Kakeru would erase his regrets, my emotional state just collapsed
- Future Naho puts it on Past Naho to go to the cultural festival
- The way she has to force out asking him, d'awwww

-I like that she's starting to do this for her future self, too, not just to help someone else.
-She brought a bath towel
-The sun reflected in a puddle, why is this show so pretty???
-Those two are pretty adorable. I only want to yell at them a little bit
-Cool, they're actually starting to touch on the time travel issue! I wasn't sure they were going to.
-That is pretty sad, the way they put the parallel worlds theory. The appeal of time travel is the chance to fix the things that went wrong, so if you never truly can, it's a pretty bittersweet magic I kind of feel for her bursting out crying in the middle of school about time travel.
-I still wish someone would make me beautiful bentous every day
-His mom committed suicide, of course he's got regrets you ridiculous child!
-Holy shit, she just outright asked him to the fireworks, way to go Naho!!
-"How do you figure...Actually, praise me more"
-Suwa's such a sweetheart
-That dinosaur is really impressive!
-At least Suwa's got a harem to console him
-Aw, even future Naho's pointing out Suwa's kindness. Maybe she isn't actually trying to get Naho to end up with Kakeru in the long run, she just wants her to live to the fullest and help Kakeru do it too and hopes that will save him, but even if they're gonna date for a while she still doesn't want to ruin things with Suwa in the long run. That seems like the happiest possible ending, at this point it's hard not to be rooting for Suwa here. And plus it annoys me when people on tv always end up with their high school crush forever.
-That last note, man...
This show's still slow, but it's really starting to hit the feelings.

Re: orange
- Spoiler:
I'm somewhat wondering if Future Naho knows what actually happened to Kakeru and sees it as unavoidable, and is just trying to compel her past self to give Kakeru happy memories to leave in the time capsule and spare herself some lifelong regret while still maintaining the "correct" future just in case.
Like Future Naho could've figured that maybe along the way her actions might change up the order of events that lead to her and Suwa finally getting together and perhaps it could ruin her and Future Suwa, so she's hedging a bit in making sure past-her notices the kinds of things Suwa does for her
