Re: Winter Anime 2020
Nah, it was good to give it another chance, I would have felt like I was giving up on it too soon otherwise. I think Dorohedoro's probably not the kind of show I'm really going to get into, but it's still curious-making enough that I might check out another episode or two if I have the chance.

Re: Winter Anime 2020
Pet 5
- Spoiler:
- Tsukasa sure had a personality change
- Like, I can't tell if Tsukasa is just playing Hayashi, but it's really convincing, he's even crying that Hayashi isn't going after him
- Now we're on daddy issues
- Satoru :nono:
- The way Satoru is probing Jin for information and she obviously must know it's going on
- Oh man, Satoru's probing her for information but Hayashi had already told him about it years ago and he has to pretend he's never heard it before
- Company backstory, and it's possible Hayashi killed the shit out of the original masters
- Ha, they're both trying to fuck with each other the exact same way because they're wary
- Tsukasa acting like Hiroki. Did Hiroki glom onto these feelings and emotional swings that Tsukasa has for Hayashi?
- Ooooo, they're potentially heading off Hayashi by making Satoru an employee
- Tsukasa was the kid who wasn't picked
- "A kid destined for organ harvesting."
- So in Tsukasa's memory, he understands Chinese, are they implying he's Chinese?
- This memory battle

Re: Winter Anime 2020
Pet 5
- Spoiler:
-Tsukasa's blushing throughout the scene in the car? Almost seems like he's trying to flirt.
-The light and friendly tone and compliments actually come off pretty naturally, but the disconnect between that and Hayashi's reactions/Tsukasa's untrustworthiness make it more tense than if it came off as more obviously fake
-the little girl never got to develop a lock so she's stuck in a world of other people's emotions, and Tsukasa thinks it's wonderful she's so loyal
-Tsukasa actually crying about Hayashi abandoning him for Satoru, this might be genuine.
-Tsukasa seems to have that emotional dependency from Hayashi, but since he also looks down on Hiroki for having it/being a pet, I think "pet" isn't an absolute status so much as anyone who can use an image is a pet to whoever's got power over them, but someone else can be that pet's pet if they've got that power over them, so there's kind of a hierarchy of who's a pet to who rather than a divide between pets and non-pets.
-fuck, I thought Satoru was hypnotising the woman b/c he realised she's from the Company, but he was surprised by it, so that suggests he was actually just trying to rape a random woman. I hope Hayashi doesn't die, he and Hiroki are the only characters who aren't horrible.
-he blushes when she mentions Hayashi; it seems like people just blush about their peak-sharing mentor. This show is such a shounen ai setup.
-simultaneously suggesting they get a drink for an opportunity to get in the other's mind
-offering him Employee status to keep him from joining Hayashi
-I think it's not so much that Hiroki picked up his emotional state from Tsukasa as that everyone is emotionally dependent/unstable wrt the person who they're the pet of or who gave them their peak, and possibly Tsukasa's usually better at controlling it than Hayashi b/c he has a stronger lock and had to get used to being abandoned by Hayashi.
-can't change what happened without changing having given Tsukasa his own will, and it's Tsukasa's will that's made him not want to follow Hayashi's path. Philosophical shiny goodness about the value of free will to do bad things vs the value of people not doing those bad things
-CRUSHER BATTLE
-having memories no one can break into is the one thing a pet can have pride in. So it's confirmed Tsukasa's a pet too. So is Hayashi also a pet? Or maybe if he was trained directly by the qigong masters, that avoids the pet dependency?
-Find yourself some especially shitty memories to guard your peak
-having a strong lock lands up giving away the importance of what it's locking away
-Tsukasa's grin as his water-form gets blown away

Re: Winter Anime 2020
I keep forgetting about Pet because the image it uses on the anime schedule site I have makes it look like an anime I wouldn't watch
Pet 6
Also god damn, Dorohedoro is wild.
Pet 6
- Spoiler:
- CEO calling Tsukasa a pointer hunting dog on the low while telling Tsukasa to teach his own pet to be like that
- The stronger the lock, the slower the image because more sensitivity is locked away behind it
- And they have no limits in the peak
- Ooooo, the woman Satoru is with can't use images
- Hayashi wasn't awakened until he was 15
- Bloody rain
- So he can dramatically double-suicide them both (or maybe just drown their peaks and make them catatonic and unable to form memories again)
- Man, Hayashi really fucked up Katsuragi. He's a lot more panicky
- Hiroki jumps into Tsukasa's memory and suddenly HEAVY METAL GOLDFISH SWIMMING IN AN OCEAN OF BLOOD
- Using Hiroki's peak, which he got from Tsukasa in the first place, to wash Tsukasa's peak clean, using the same kind of connection Tsukasa used to crush Hayashi.
- Tsukasa acted surprised but it's maybe his plan all along, because now they have a crushed Hayashi
Also god damn, Dorohedoro is wild.

Re: Winter Anime 2020
Didn't manage to get to Dorohedoro this week and don't think I'm going to have the chance next week, so I think I'm going to declare myself too far behind and just stick to the one show this season. No sentient cooked ducks for me
Pet E6
Pet E6
- Spoiler:
-telling him to make his pet obedient to the point of endlessly waiting for his master to come back, like he is, or even his pet will abandon him
-that rotting dog corpse
-Hayashi justifying forcibly memory-changing someone who'd cared about him by saying he'll carry Tsukasa's pain and take him with him
-a lock keeps people out of your peak but limits you, so if they're in your peak, it no longer limits you, love the details of the mind stuff
-Satoru being like "what the fuck, why is she whining at me?"
-Hayashi doesn't remember anything from before he was 15?! Maybe you don't absorb memories while you're in that "trapped in the emotions of people around you" state? Or someone fucked with his pre-Company memories to control him. Or just doing this kind of work damages your brain over time?
-Making your own memories, I guess being able to imagine situations to act as your own peak so you can control your mind-powers and separate yourself from other people's minds to be able to function, and if you can't make your own peak the only way to get that control is for someone else to give one to you. So creating an image is basically just letting other people's thoughts into your head to be able to interact with their thoughts in more complex ways? They're making it sound like the image ability only ever happens if you're forced to gain it due to lacking the ability to make your own memories, too.
-Jin manipulating Satoru into offering to help her to get inside the CEO's head, what is she up to?!
-holy fuck, Tsukasa put a door into Hayashi's peak back when he first shared his peak with him, what kind of master manipulator child was he?!?
-doesn't care if he destroys his own peak too, evil as he is, he's still really fucking sad
-blooooooooood
-wow, most of the lookouts don't know about any of the mind stuff at all, or rumours of kung fu powers at most
-No, Hayashi, don't be crushed
-he told Katsuragi to bring him back to Hiroki, is this one glimmer of kindness, or does he think Hiroki might be able to save him.
-waiting to see which remaining pet is more loyal to use them, fun times ahead for Satoru and Hiroki
-Katsuragi still going along with Hayashi's hypnosis
-Hiroki falls apart completely pretty much instantly without Tsukasa, whereas the others stay completely functional with years away from Hayashi. Starting to wonder if it really is just that he's got a naturally weak lock, or if Tsukasa fucked him up on purpose when he peak-shared.
-Yup, Tsukasa probably just figured Hiroki could save him, he's still 100% asshole. Not that he seems like he wants to be saved right now
-Hiroki's peak is nothing but the river, kind of seems like a sign of emotional stuntedness
-Well done, Hiroki, now go fix Hayashi, he's the only other semi-decent person in this show.

Re: Winter Anime 2020
Pet 7
- Spoiler:
- Zappppppppp
- Meiling's butterfly was trying to get out
- The nightmare-scape that a "baby" or pet has is awful, she's absorbing other people's valleys
- Hayashi promising to come back for her, but is that just Jin and the other guy manipulating her?
- Take off their clothes
- Man, that entire assassination operation (where a child kills one of their grandparents in front of their parent, issues )
- Hayashi can't remember who gave him his peak
- D-did Tsukasa's hair go a little gray? His peak appears to be fucked up, so his lock might've significantly weakened after being crushed.
- "It's Tsukasa's feeding time too." Hiroki treating Tsukasa like a pet
- Tsukasa either scheming or plotting or just leading Hiroki on again
- Oh shit, they're gonna kill Satoru because he has the ability to make babies
- And Hayashi was specifically after Satoru, probably to get him away before he can start making them

Re: Winter Anime 2020
Pet E7
- Spoiler:
-the cockroaches crawling all over that guy as he gets convinced he has to murder his grandfather
-Hayashi giving Mei Ling a quick-fix for at least having something better to focus on within the endless-valley horrors in her mind and promising he'll come back to give her the full thing later, I guess that's never happening now (I don't think it'd be just Jin and Long manipulating her, b/c she hasn't got any reason to trust Hayashi more than anyone else, so they'd more likely have used someone from her past)
-Tsukasa might be evil, but I'm glad he was brought back just so he could wipe that smirk off Long's face, I already hate that dude more!
- The 'baby' era.
-It's somehow an impressive sort of chill to be able to confidently and efficiently enact your brutal revenge/takeover plan while stripped naked
-oh look, another (grand)parent-child issues thing. Though, at least this time it doesn't seem to be about some weirdly specific, gender-based, fucked up childhood abuse, just straightforwardly convincing him the grandfather's senile and going to destroy him and the family, seems a lot less like their personal psychological fixation bubbling out
-Hayashi doesn't remember who gave him his peak
-Interesting that Tsukasa's dream has Hayashi trying to protect him, after fighting to crush each other, part of him still sees Hayashi as a protector
-Using his weak state to get Hiroki doing Company jobs again (I guess it could be the Company's manipulation rather than all Tsukasa, but I kind of think it's all him)
-Tsukasa looked genuinely upset when Hiroki was crying
-They're needed enough now that they can make demands, time to unionize!
-A way for them to not have to work for the Company anymore by "just" sharing their peaks, he means creating more babies like Mei Ling to do the work for them, isn't he?
-Tsukasa is a "son" now. Reward for getting rid of Hayashi, I guess.
-Long hates Tsukasa for crushing Hayashi, like he's one to criticize morality. Or bad treatment of family, for that matter.
-So Tsukasa's planning to get Hiroki on board with stripping children of their free will to use like robots and giving themselves a monopoly on the skill by murdering Satoru, the only other friendly connection Hiroki seems to have. This might just be a story of watching the less evil people fall to the dark side (come back, Hayashi )
-Hiroki has no idea what maple syrup is
-the fish killing the other one, they're not going light on the foreshadowing, are they

Re: Winter Anime 2020
So in episode 7 of Dorohedoro, the gang organizes an inter-hospital baseball game, played in a ramshackle stadium where Sorcerors burnt at the stake are in the stands, a puddle between second and third base is "a bottomless pit", and one of Caiman's recruited teammates is a humanoid cockroach that tried to kill and eat him the previous episode.
This anime is incredible.
This anime is incredible.

Re: Winter Anime 2020
Pet 8
- Spoiler:
- Today's target is an illegitimate son
- AHAHAHAHAHA HIROKI
- Tsukasa trying to twist Hiroki away from Satoru, the way his face changes when Satoru comes up
- "You off to the school prom Hiroki?" Holy shit, Katsuragi
- The way Tsukasa enjoys having power over people, it's so childlike and almost reminds me of Hiroki
- Tsukasa knows about Meiling
- Jin and Satoru vs Tsukasa and Hiroki
- Whoops, Satoru's earnestness in confiding in Hiroki suddenly has Hiroki questioning Tsukasa
- Tsukasa's crush training
- Satoru's door doesn't quite work with valleys
- Hiroki's worried about crushing the guy in front of his wife, hrm
- Awww, an actual goddamn happy memory between a parent and child
- Hiroki's bothered because he saw Tsukasa get crushed
- Wowwwww, Satoru's kind of sad or jealous because people's peaks are really their happiest memories and it means they can be easily crushed, but despite their peaks being strong they're also totally fake, given to them by someone else, so they long after that person because at least that person was real. But also maybe because they occupy the peak, it kind of predisposes their minds that way? They have the power to mess with other people's memories and therefore how they emotionally feel about other people, but their memories were messed with first and those emotions arguably just implanted.
- OOPS, Hiroki was noticed
- IS Hayashi dead? We only saw him crushed, and Katsuragi kind of just drove off and never bothered to do anything else with him.

Re: Winter Anime 2020
Pet E8
- Spoiler:
-I'm so mad they changed haircolours, how am I supposed to recognize them now?
-holy fuck what did they do to Hiroki
-warning Hiroki about Satoru, prepping him to get on board with killing him someday
-Peking duck banquet
-Tsukasa's happy evil monologue to himself to a background of alien invasion-type B-movie music, this is kind of weird
-He's still leaking mind-water
-Jin and Tsukasa both trying to set a divide between Hiroki and Satoru, but on opposite sides
-Satoru's so much more uncertain about thinking for himself than Hiroki, who forms opinions and makes decisions very freely even though he's so influenced by Tsukasa, I wonder if Satoru was taken younger or has more drastic powers and was more deeply trapped by other people's minds before getting a peak or something. Or maybe just Hiroki and Tsukasa being similar ages let Hiroki see himself as an equal and speak up about things from the start
-Long telling Tsukasa Hayashi left him for Satoru b/c he's too slow at mind-changing
-Hiroki's distress at crushing the guy in front of his wife, so many people suck on this show it's a pleasant surprise any time they show the tiniest care about hurting people, even though Hiroki's been fairly consistently the one non-asshole (and Satoru other than the mindcontrol-rape attempt moment, I guess, but unless I really misunderstood what was going on that's massively damaging to his portrayal as a decent person).
-I'm also pretty shocked to see a happy memory about a kid being accepted his dad, a person whose parents don't completely suck?!?
-As soon as Satoru shows his distress, Hiroki immediately offers to do the crushing part instead, not sure it's wise of Tsukasa to give Hiroki a chance to bond unsupervised and develop sympathy for Satoru, basic human empathy may be something an asshole like Tsukasa can't properly account for
-I'm skeptical that someone who speaks zero Chinese could say a phrase well enough for this with no practice, that tonal shit's hard as fuck
-their peaks can't be crushed as easily as a regular person, but they're also fake
-What happened to Hiroki?!? Some aftermath of saving Tsukasa?? There's not enough evidence to really think this but between this and the fact that Tsukasa's still leaking mind-water, I do wonder a little if Hayashi doesn't still have something going on, a piece of him lingering in Tsukasa's peak that could have been transferred to Hiroki and trying to get some kind of foothold or just accidentally affecting him b/c who knows what a memory-remaint of a crushed person would do
-Tsukasa's even an asshole to service staff, what a fucker
-A sad fucker, though

Pet 9
- Spoiler:
- Ahhhhh, Hiroki was malnourished
- SHOE POLISH
- So they kept Hayashi alive? Or are they talking about Tsukasa? The English subs overlaid on the Japanese ones made it hard to read
- Mannnnn, Hiroki feels a breeze but then he looks in the mirror and sees that his hair isn't blowing in the wind
- Ahhhhhhh, he faked out Katsuragi and put him to sleep by pretending he was reprogramming the waiter
- WHOOPS HAYASHI is somehow in the exact same hospital, small world
- Getting pretty Berserk Advent in here
- Tsukasa losing it, just gonna shoot Satoru now
- Orrrrr take a cue from the bad guys and send Hiroki after him instead

Re: Winter Anime 2020
Pet 9
- Spoiler:
-he dyed his hair with shoe polish
-wind?! Hayashi!??
-"not even Katsuragi knows that guy is alive" HAYASHI!
-so now they've got control of Hayashi. But if the control was 100%, he probably wouldn't be sending breezes to Hiroki
-hypnotizing Katsuragi along with he guy he's supposed to be hypnotising, Hiroki's actually pretty smart. I'm enjoying the show more when there's a sympathetic protag, it can get tiring after a few episodes following along with mostly unsympathetic people being presented half the time as protagonists and half as over-the-top-evil villains, especially now that there's the possibility of 2 non-terrible people on the go.
-Tsukasa's already suspicious of if Hayashi's really dead
-security guard hypnotized into being under threat someone will kill his family if he gives up the key seems kind of hilarious given that I'm sure they'd be totally happy to genuinely threaten to kill his family too
-Hiroki playing detective in Hayashi's mind
-threatening Tsukasa with a Satoru-crushing to make him give Hiroki to them. No way is he ever going to do that, aside from him being his highest card, that's his pet that gives him a guarantee of someone who won't abandon him
-as soon as he realizes it's Hayashi, Hiroki doesn't even think about it, he just immediately starts trying to get him to come back for Satoru's sake. That kind of automatic care for other people is gonna get him in trouble, given in the circles he moves in.
-Tsukasa starting to lose it, freaking out and hallucinating, has he always been this close to unhinged and just using having a pet of his own to give him the stability that he was missing but now it's threatened, or is this an after-effect of the crushing, or just he's someone who's totally cool when he's got a plan but falls apart as soon as it's threatened?
-Hiroki finally putting the pieces together and devastated Tsukasa could do that to his peak-giver

Pet 10
- Spoiler:
- Hiroki's awakening was swimming into Tsukasa's body
- And he came out and said "Pet" and "Hayashi" to Tsukasa
- Holy shit, Tsukasa is crying that Hayashi is still alive
- Tsukasa's sunk-costed crushing Hayashi, he's all in because he can't face the idea that he could just run away and it was for nothing
- Satoru threatening to erase Satoru from his peak, but Hiroki's stronger than him
- The word about Hayashi being alive is getting out, so Satoru might find out
- Tsukasa's wild-eye'd and drooling
- Huh, so Long was trying to direct Tsukasa into suggesting that they change Hiroki's memory to think that the CEO was his peak giver
- And he's trying to use it as a chance to crush Satoru... because then, Hiroki probably survives because he's the only one who can make babies.

- Spoiler:
-little Hiroki crying that the pancake doesn't fill up the whole pan
-ohshit, he told Tsukasa he found Hayashi
-Tsukasa tearing up at the news Hayashi's alive
-Tsukasa came up with the idea of babies, and that's why Hayashi left for good, so he halfway did this to himself
-Hiroki outright telling him that he'll have to crush him b/c he's not loyal to the company either, go Hiroki!
-Tsukasa flipping out and doubling down b/c if he accepts running away as a possibility, it'd mean he crushed Hayashi for nothing
-YES! Hiroki! Get away from this fucked up asshole!!
-"Fish can't live outside of water"
-The CEO kept Hayashi alive b/c they were old friends, what the fuck kind of person leaves their old friend dead to the world and endlessly trapped in their shattered memories??!
-lacking a lock means you can leak thoughts but also they can reach out to other leaky-thought people
-At least Katsuragi's having fun
-Katsuragi's safe from the Company b/c he's memory-altered and totally controllable, that explains a lot about him
-Tsukasa's really bringing the crazy eyes here
-and then back to cool and scheming, but doesn't realize Long's manipulating him into his plan. And he might be failing to account for Satoru actually having some level of human compassion too, though.
-Seems kind of unnecessarily over-the-top to have Long go around creepily kissing his cousin, he already comes across as slimy
-Satoru's world lights up when he hears Hayashi is back

- Spoiler:
- Tsukasa talking about rainbows and butterflies and Satoru immediately picks up on what he's telling him
- Tsukasa starts freaking out even more than Satoru and I kinda believe it
- Satoru doesn't believe Hayashi made Meiling this way, because the first thing Hayashi taught him was how to make a lock
- "Discussing this stuff here will upset Meiling." Fuck off and die, Long
- Agh, Hayashi left a message but Meiling didn't understand how to say it (wasn't Katsuragi afraid of cats? We saw Hayashi fiddle with him)
- OOOOOOOOO, Satoru is gonna go into Katsuragi's memories and whatever he was carrier-pigeoning is gonna come out
- Oops, the memory might've been a good fake
- Hiroki hypnotized someone and is just sitting in their room without them realizing it, freaky
- Satoru's anime door has grown up with him
- She passed along the message, but didn't pass along the "scared of cats" part the second time
- Man, Tsukasa is such a cold-blooded schemer
- Hiroki watching a couple argue makes him reflect on his relationship with Tsukasa

Re: Winter Anime 2020
Pet 11
- Spoiler:
-Satoru recognizes something is up
-him and Tsukasa both freaking out at seeing Hayashi crushed, I'm not even sure Tsukasa's faking it
-Hey, just realized Satoru doesn't seem to have a mind-self based around a concept like all the other image-users do, he's just himself
-message from Hayashi, but Satoru doesn't get it
-Satoru's quick to pick up something's off; sometimes he's really sharp but at other times he seems very naive. Whoops, there it is, he's assuming it's Katsuragi alone lying to both of them, he can't fathom that someone who shares Hayashi's peak could be evil
-Tsukasa looking upset when Satoru says he knows Hayashi the best
-Doesn't even occur to Satoru that Katsuragi's memory could have been changed
-they worked in showing Hayashi saying it's to protect Satoru, Tsukasa's good at this
-Hiroki hiding in an oblivious woman's apartment, right beside her, and then the mirror technique on her boyfriend /
-poor Hiroki, stuck invisibly in the room with a couple fighting, that's so uncomfortable
-Satoru's door gets stuck when it's a valley he doesn't want to go into
-Tsukasa laughing to himself about his plan. I kind of liked it better when they trusted the audience more to follow along, it was confusing sometimes, but some of the bits where we're seeing people's thoughts of their evil plans make the tone a little weird and patchworky
-He thinks if Hiroki doesn't actually have to be the one to crush Satoru, he'll be fine with everything Tsukasa's done, he really doesn't get Hiroki
-If Hiroki still doesn't go along with it, "I'll have another mouth to feed" and keeping his crushed body aliveso he'll never be alone
-Shit, they found him!
-using his door as a rope, damn

- Spoiler:
- Well, that was two awfully clean assassinations
- Ohohoooooo, the message finally got through to Satoru because of Jin accidentally letting it out (or is it accidental?)
- Satoru trying to make excuses for Tsukasa, not wanting to believe he'd crush Hayashi
- Whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa, Satoru's handing over the thumb-drive. Did he make alterations to it to fool Tsukasa or does he just think that even if Tsukasa was being a baddy that he'd change his mind once he saw Hayashi's wishes?

- Spoiler:
-Hiroki still hesitating to turn on Tsukasa, Tsukasa still trying to convince him they're on the same team
-goldfish swallowing door/door slicing goldfish, I have no idea who won that
-fuck yeah, Jin revealed that Katsuragi's scared of cats! Wonder if it was on purpose, though it doesn't seem like she's that aware of what's been going on in the minds.
-the creepy way Katsuragi's eyes suddenly come alive when Satoru uses the password and you notice, "wait, are his eyes that dead otherwise all the time?" How much have they done to him and how much of an effect does it have? Was there more to him as a person once than being grumpy and kind of dumb?
-YES! Message from Hayashi!
-Happy little Tsukasa
-telling Satoru to use opinions on Meiling's creation as a barometer to who to trust
-Tsukasa's so good at this because he always means the emotions he shows, he just uses them to his own end
-oh noo, Satoru's falling for it, don't give him the usb stick!!! Maaaaybe he changed it, but that doesn't quite seem like his kind of smart, so I feel like it'd be a little out of character. I thought it was more that Tsukasa's answer of not particularly liking what they did to Meiling but he trusts in Hayashi was enough to make Satoru think he was still salvageable. But he's probably got something up his sleeve even if not changing the message.
-Tsukasa suddenly being hit with the fact Hayashi was always trying to keep him safe

Pet 13 - Finale
Definitely rushed. It's a 20 year old manga that had a short run, so it was probs cancelled and then the last few chapters was just running through plot points
We're three for three with Geno Studio though. Kokkoku, Pet and Golden Kamuy
- Spoiler:
- Just casually walks away from Satoru being shot so he can have a mental breakdown in front of tied-up Hiroki
- Activated the Matasa word in Katsuragi
- YEAH, SUCK IT, LONG
- Katsuragi is her father, wtf?
- The red on Katsuragi seeping out as Satoru explains it all
- God damn, Jin was just about to shoot herself
- Did Hiroki crush Tsukasa?
- Oh fuck, did Satoru change himself into Tsukasa?
- He hid the memory that Hiroki crushed Tsukasa?
- Tsukasa was gonna become Hiroki's Pet, mannnn
- Oooooo, they reversed everything that happened and Tsukasa's basically a baby now
- Oh mannnnnn, the escape route was to their shared peak with Hayashi but in real life
Definitely rushed. It's a 20 year old manga that had a short run, so it was probs cancelled and then the last few chapters was just running through plot points
We're three for three with Geno Studio though. Kokkoku, Pet and Golden Kamuy

Re: Winter Anime 2020
This had a lot in common with Kokkoku in terms of their strengths and weaknesses, but Golden Kamuy was another level altogether, so definitely speaks well for them!
Pet 13/End
Pet 13/End
- Spoiler:
-Tsukasa suddenly freaking out with guilt, after handling everything so calmly
-Holy fuck, Katsuragi goes rogue to protect "Mr. Matasa," fucking good job Satoru! And Hayashi.
-Katsuragi's Jin's father, this feels pretty out of nowhere, the stuff that was off with his memories wasn't really enough to lead up to this so quickly.
-but it's also pretty sad, that blank "he said I wouldn't be killed" as he gets shot by his daughter who he'd been forced to forget; a man whose full peak was totally locked away and his personality with it, dying around people who only ever knew him as an abrasive asshole lackey In a way this might be the saddest story of anyone in this show.
-Hayashi even tried to save Katsuragi
-though, in the memory, Jin's mom seems completely like a child and not in full possession of her faculties, which makes it fucking horrifying for him to have had a kid with her rather than sweet, this show has a habit of casually sliding the worst things in there like it doesn't know they're awful
-Satoru making Hiroki think he's Tsukasa, but didn't Hiroki also just mentally destroy Tsukasa? I guess he was upset enough and not wanting to remember having turned on Tsukasa that he can easily be mind-altered to trust him again, more easily than trusting Satoru? I feel like Hiroki probably would have gone with Satoru without it, though, if he explained everything.
-even Tsukasa's dog got killed
-holy fuck, Tsukasa's lock was so strong he couldn't even let Hiroki do what he begged him to do, and it destroyed him
-what was with the giant peeing baby?
-Hiroki watching his happy memory with Tsukasa get erased from Tsukasa's mind
-And then he loyally erases Hayashi, the one memory left, this is so fucking tragic
-ohh, he asked Satoru to erase his memory
-Hayashi gave them the map to find the memory that formed all of their peaks
-implying that Jin thinks Meiling is Long and is going to raise him to get revenge? (omg, that'd make another fucked up gender-crossing parent-child relationship, I thought the author was done with that!)
It's a shame it was so rushed at the end and that the characterizations were so uneven at times, and those couple of casual moments of "wtf, that's horrifying" they stuck in there, b/c the tragedies and the ending concept of finding Hayashi's peak to go live their lives in were really solid and they deserved to get played out properly.
I'd been expecting them to do more with the mind-fuckery and making the audience have to notice details to recognize it or look back and realize it after a big revelation, which would have been cool, but not going that route wasn't a flaw per se.
