Re: Joys and Good News
I was worried about the literature essay I wrote at the last minute a month ago. I thought I might have gotten a C- or even a D. Just found out today that I got a B+!

Re: Joys and Good News
I was looking for work-related advice on Captain Awkward, and though it didn't fit what I thought I was looking for, I found this article:
http://captainawkward.com/2015/03/31/684-my-boss-brought-a-machete-to-disciplinary-meetings-with-staff/
It is about a boss bringing a machete to a disciplinary meeting and stabbing it into the conference table.
And that really put a different perspective on my workplace.

Re: Joys and Good News
Just came back from a date. I'm just so happy right now words cannot describe.
So I recently messaged this REALLY cute woman on OKC and the online chit chat led to 2 phone talks and a few texts which led to me going on a date with her tonight. So we met right outside this new bar that opened recently in my city, but I had no idea what is was only that a friend recommended it to me :-)
Apparently it is a super stylish cocktail bar, completely designed in an old school fashion of the 1920's-1930's in America. Basically the hostess told us that access to the place is for reservations only – but because it was early (and that she realized we were on a date) she let us in anyway. It was really cool – I ordered a drink that combined whiskey with the barman first burning some fresh Rosemary leaves and then capturing the smoke created in the glass itself, before continuing to prepare the drink using the same glass. It was AMAZING. Best drink I ever had. I think that I have just found what the best bar in town is. Prices were accordingly a bit expensive, but I think it was very worth it.
After that and because I was feeling a positive vibe from her (We were having a great conversation and flirting going on), I proceed to take her someplace dancing nearby. Even before we actually start dancing – we kiss.
To describe how this felt after so, so long is literally impossible. But the most amazing part about it to me – that going for the kiss, right at that specific moment, felt like the most natural thing to do. Almost Effortless.
After making out a bit, she tells me that she "usually doesn't kiss on first dates" with this knowing smile on her face.
So we basically agreed on meeting again for a bit more dancing on Monday. So unless fate decides to screw me over somehow, I have a good feeling that this second date WILL happen :-)
And so I leave you all with this little tune that sums up how I feel right now.

That is great to hear, Gman!!
My good news is that my friend and his boyfriend are got engaged today. Normally I would be o_O if someone was marrying the first man they dated (and second person), but nope, not in this case. They are an amazingly good couple

Re: Joys and Good News
I am really happy for a good friend of mine. He is basically like a lot of other people - a little younger than me but also without any romantic experience (I think he never even kissed) - until yesterday. I met up with him, another friend and that friends roomate. He and the roomate probably kissed - because last night we went out to a party and I quickly lost track of the two.
I suspected something was up until he texted me all excited later that night.
It's really encouraging to see someone grow and improve in this field right in front of your eyes. :-)

Re: Joys and Good News
Entering two-year paid teacher training program qualification round level 2.
Selection procedure confirmation was terribly late, so two days to prepare a 10 minute lesson plan. First idea is to rig the whole thing with a listening exercise, but going for a poetry part instead. I plan to fill it with less time than available due to grown-up people playing rowdy kids, touch upon the relations between it and stuff like slam poetry and such, eventually announcing a close-reading and a writing assignment in which they have to compare an old poem and a modern song thematically. Estimation of level is fourth year of secondary education. Lots of people in English bracket, so I have to have my shit together, even though my stint as a tutor of Dutch probably gives me a bit of an edge.

Re: Joys and Good News
Got a good review from a reader of a fanfic that took me three years to write and has been following it since it started.
It's silly, but I'm really satisfied I made something that someone enjoyed. Even a little bit.

I just hung out with friends! At a local hippie beatnik Boulder restaurant! I went to a genuine social event and enjoyed myself and wasn't awkward at all! OMG I feel so relaxed and happy right now!

Re: Joys and Good News
Had the physical. Was the first time I've seen a physician and haven't felt bad or left feeling terrible. My doctor was nice and friendly, answered all my questions, I didn't feel like I couldn't discuss anything with her and she completely understood my frustrations about being overweight and looked at as unhealthy (once again my BP is great, no health issues, and my cholesterol will probably be good too just like the last time). She also didn't include that blurb on your BMI and what you need to do about it in my visit/follow up summary.
It feels strange, having an appointment and leaving without feelings of hostility or shame.

Re: Joys and Good News
Went out on a date last night with a guy who's intelligent, has a good sense of humor, has a job that he actually likes, and who didn't seem put off by me paying for myself. And it was fun! Oh, and at one point he mentioned not dating often (he's 33, so, not exactly the expectation), but didn't seem to be bitter or angry about it.

Re: Joys and Good News
I take strange pleasure when some dude street harasses me from behind and I turn around and let him see my face. It often brings on a storm of insults, but it is worth it for the initial look of shock and horror when they see exactly who they were hooting and hollering at.
