Re: Joys and Good News
Kissing on the dancefloor and then trying to kiss in rhytm and having a giggle fit. Because there's no justice or cosmic deserving in this world, and that came at exactly the right time.

Also, I did some charity consulting this week and it donated a lot of dosh to the Red Cross for my station in life (this is not so much based on my skills but more on the nature of the initiative, but still, people get to actually live longer with less suffering and that in itself is a good thing).

I had wanted to do that fish pedicure where little carp eat your dead skin for years. Finally did it and OH MY GOD IT TICKLES, WHAT A TRIP, WHAT FUN

At first I read that as meaning that the little carp eat your dead skin for years

I read enail's post first and I still thought those carp were going to eat your dead skin for years at first

Re: Joys and Good News
I have been cat-sitting for two kittens for the past 10 days. One of them warmed up to me pretty quick and started sitting in my lap after only a few days, but the other mostly kept to herself. However, the past few days, she has started to seek out my company more and more, and today, both cats are sitting contentedly on my lap.
Unfortunately, this is my last day of cat-sitting until whenever their owners' next vacation is.

Re: Joys and Good News
So...it looks like we're getting a puppy! We've been looking passively for a bit, and actively in the last month or so. We went yesterday to meet the pups just to make sure we had a good personality match, and we picked out a girl who is super sweet and affectionate (and scared of outside - the rescue thinks that when she was at the original pet store she never when outside!) so when she took her out she ran back to the boyfriend's arms to be taken back in. And so tiny! We have to wait two weeks for shots, and a home visit (which she said is just to figure out setup and make sure we have a list of what we need, not part of the vetting), but then...puppy!

Re: Joys and Good News
I'm so very happy with my internship. We went out for the monthly after work beer today, and I had a great time, and they're such great people, and they've created such a great community, and they're so happy to have me there, because I fit in very well. And today the leader of the organization said he wanted to find a way to keep me on after the internship is over. And I get to work with mental health stuff. Literally. The name of the organization is "Mental Health". I studied to be a clinical psychologist for six years before I had to leave because of my own mental health issues, and now I'm working with mental health promotion after all. It makes me cry a bit to think about it. Or maybe it's the four beers I've had.
But I'm working with mental health promotion, folks. After all this time.

Re: Joys and Good News
Passed the first of three comprehensive exams for my PhD, hooray! (Not celebrating too hard yet, still have to pass the other two and, y'know, write a dissertation. But still, small joys.)

This is my new furbaby, Maggie. She is a super snuggler, but she is sneaky as hell.

Thanks! We are super excited - it is nice to have a furry distraction from the barrage of horror that the US is right now.

Re: Joys and Good News
Sadistic joy to share:
About 3-ish years ago, we had got a large amount of shitty firewood. Some of it was shitty wood to burn but our neighbour had knocked down a tree in their yard so it was like "aight, we'll take it", and it's more just shitty in quality because it burns fast and makes a lot of ash. Then there was shitty wood in that it's quality to burn but hard to split. "Good" wood just splits like you see in the cartoons or how they do it in TV shows, one or a few swings right through. Then there's wood that has knots in it. A knot is where a tree branch grows out of, it'd be kind of like what your shoulder is to your arm. Knots don't split all that well (or at all, considering I'm not a male specimen known for my physical strength) when you hit them direct with an axe, and it disperses the force of your swing when you hit around a knot so it requires more swings to split a piece of wood, and you end up with a warped looking piece that's all aggravating to stack straight in piles. We got a ton of this wood in block form (think tree stump size) and they were full of knots and hard as hell to fucking split and I imprinted my human hatred on trees that summer and if some environmentalist told me that we had to save the rainforest or something I probably would've fist-fought them to the death right then and there (okay not really, but it sucked)
Just loaded up the last load of both to be burned in the woodstove over the next few weeks. I'm going to enjoy this

Just spent an hour just cleaning my shower. A bit worn out, but it feels very good. + it rhymes.

Did that yesterday without the joy factor. Anything that makes cleaning the bathroom more fun is a force for good.
