Re: Politics and Current Events
Meanwhile, after the attacks today, Trump thinks it's a good idea to waterboard the terrorist we captured a couple days ago. Have we forgotten the Geneva Convention already?

So...we're witnessing a junior high school student government campaign?

Yep. It is just as bad the second time around. And at least junior high kids had an excuse

Re: Politics and Current Events
You know, as Mitt Romney pointed out, there are some jobs Americans won't do: for instance, marrying Donald Trump.

Re: Politics and Current Events
I really don't want to bring their wives into this in any way, even as that kind of joke.
The fact that Melania Trump is being trashed on a "Cruz" ad is repellent. The woman was a model. Heaven forfend there be photos of her modeling. They're trying to slut-shame her for being a model. They're trying to slut-shame her as an attack on her husband, which has so much misogyny and toxic masculinity tied up in it that I don't even know where to start.
This has absolutely nothing to do with her at all. The only reason I would care about any of their wives is if they're national security threats. You know, a thing that has nothing to do with their gender.

Re: Politics and Current Events
The Arizona Primaries were a damned mess. I was volunteering with a voting rights group and assisting voters who had to wait 5 FUCKING HOURS OR MORE to vote because the county underestimated turnout and only opened 60 polling stations instead of the normal 200. Lots of first time voters at my polling place. I hope they are not put off voting by the wait.
On another note, the voter ID rules here somewhat punish renters and people who move a lot, who, in AZ, happen to be predominantly Hispanic, Native American, young, lower income and vote Democrat. Coincidence?

Yeah, the disenfranchisement of predominantly Democrat voters has me worried for this election. It's the first presidential one since the Voting Rights Act was altered.

It worries me as well. Especially with first time voters who do not even realize something is fishy because they have never voted bef

Re: Politics and Current Events
Every now and then, I'm reminded that although John Kasich is capable of pretending to be a moderate and an adult, he is neither. Granted, this is 20 years old, but...
Pity the fellow who was working at the Blockbuster store when John Kasich spotted a cassette of "Fargo." The people who distribute Academy Award nominations like that movie, but the congressman from Columbus, Ohio, emphatically - all his judgments are emphatic - does not. The Blockbuster fellow tried a Nuremberg defense - "I'm just the store manager" - but Kasich would have none of it, telling him that at least the movie should be labeled for gratuitous violence.

I'm concerned about this as well, both from a justice point of view and from a results-based one. My understanding is that some of Trump's support comes from people who've never voted before, but I also suspect that a lot of the #NeverTrump voters may be relatively new to voting as well.

North Carolina just passed a law that severely curtails the rights of transgender people.
Why is it that these people call themselves Christian, but can't abide by "love thy neighbor"?

I'll never get what the issue is supposed to be with restrooms. It's such a ridiculously contrived way of discriminating against trans people, but it seems like there are loads of people out there that feel rather strongly about what toilet you pee in...
“This is about protecting – not from a transgender, necessarily – but from a predator,” said Rep. Pat McElraft, an Emerald Isle Republican.
The bit between dashes is pure class isn't it. Kind of like the way "fedoras are class and swag is for kids".

Re: Politics and Current Events
Wealthy elites all over the world hide their assets in tax havens. I'm shocked!
I'm also really curious to see who else ends up on the list. I suspect there's a reason they haven't announced a single American (or for that matter Canadian, since this is a Canadian forum ) and started with people with ties to regimes everyone assumes are corrupt...and apparently half of Iceland's government. I'm guessing they're waiting, probably until a weekday, to announce some other big names.

Do you think Megyn Kelly will vote for Trump if he's the Republican nominee?

Note to self: you can't use the word "dodgy" in the British Parliament.

They probably hide their assets in the US. Nevada, Delaware, etc make the Caymans and Panama look like paragons of transparency
