Shoujo Shuumatsu Ryouko E2

-the snowman has a bullet for a nose
-I don't think it's necessarily that civilization was that long ago, her writing looks like a slightly odd style of kana, which a kid would know, while the sign she couldn't read was kanji, which she probably wouldn't yet.
-why do they have boobs? They seem like they're about 8!
-she threw the book in
-eating fish that they don't know why it died
I think I might drop this one. It's just kind of slow, and the characters are too cartoony to really care about them without being likeable enough to be fun to watch just living their lives, and the hints of mystery and the sad/disturbingness of how ordinary and casual a horrifying situation is to them isn't really feeling like enough to keep me into it.
Houseki no Kuni - I accidentally watched the 2nd episode instead of the first, and thought it was an incoherent mess that expected you to care about things it hadn't given you any reason to care about
So I guess I should give it another chance. But I'm pretty sure I'd think the body style is fucking weird even if I'd seen the 1st episode, their hips look like butts instead of hips even when viewed from the front.

Houseki no Kuni - after watching the real first episode, Cinnabar's pretty interesting, and the design of the Lunarian monster things is pretty cool. It's kind of clumsy and I feel like not that good a show, but also surprisingly fun to watch. Since I started off by being so annoyed by how bad a first episode the second episode was, I wasn't expecting to like it at all, but I might actually keep going another episode at least!

-and he's just amazed she knew that many people
-What the FUCK is that?!
-the shape of a soul?? They feed them their emotions?? Her whole people does??
-Emotions ruin the world but the emotionless people are the ones waging an endless war
-the apathoia have mechanical-looking joints in the cave drawing
-holy fuck, Ouni's so sick of life on the Whale that he just shoves his arm into the nous to give them his emotions
-the nous' super-creepy but also beautiful design really suits something that preserves the hearts of thousands of people otherwise vanished but also can steal your memories of your loved ones
-interesting that they both keep quiet about the nous to the elders
-being parted from the nous and having to have emotions is unbearable
-Apparently looking at locusts is the big romantic/bonding event on the Whale. Doesn't sound quite as romantic than fireworks.
-Man, they put 7-yr-olds into soldier training and never see their families again, I can see why she doesn't want memory-emotions back
-okay, locusts are beautiful, I take it back, they can be as romantic as fireworks
-Locust dropping dead as soon as it leaves the Mud Whale, that's not ominously symbolic at all
-I love seeing the everyday life things, how household structures work in a society where almost everyone dies young
-Why would you refuse an audience with the mysterious stranger from the dangerous outside world who insists she has something important to tell them, what the fuck's up with the Elders?? And now the Council's going behind the leader's back, lots of secrets here
-Wow that guy's got super-charisma power
-that doesn't look like a happy, peaceful kind of ship
-Sinners? Are they an exiled people or something??
-Guns! SHIT!

-dude talking about how hot his classmate is uses the words "alabaster skin," he's from one of those anime where an ordinary high school guy secretly is a famous romance novel-writer, isn't he?
-that's kind of creepy when the kid's talking about the serial killer and the whole time he's looking right into the camera.
-ROBOT REVEAL
-He's so fucking casual about it, just "freaky, right?"
-the facial expressions in this show are kind of stiff
-the crow drops when he finger-guns it, and he's just so casual
-the car accidents. Robot kid is waaaaaay better at his robot powers than robot old guy. That doesn't seem like a good thing
-Just wanders into a random house and then BANG. ANd the lightness of his voice.
-the kid drowning under his dying dad is what makes him feel calmly alive. This episode's just as miserable as the last one, but in a worse/creepier way
-old robot hears what young robot is hearing?? or is it just b/c it's nearby and his robot-hearing is good, or people who need help??
-stuck in traffic while the girl gets killed
-Young robot's still there, GET HIM, OLD ROBOT!!
-okay, at least he got him with a stern look
Next week: ROBOT FIGHT! I'm not all in on this, I find serial killers a little tiresome, but it's interesting enough to keep going.

- Oh man, Lykos wants her emotions gone before they start bubbling back and she gets mega PTSD'ed from whatever the fuck happened on that island (even if it was just "everyone eventually dying off peacefully")
- Faces carved in the tower, more Naruto
- People with no emotions still give piggyback rides
- All the feels are coming to her now
- "93 Sand era." Meaning if the Unmarked have normal human lifespans, then some of them probably had parents at least who saw the thing happen that turned them into Mud Whalers in the first place

- Excitedly taking part in the genocide even though they don't have the feelings to even feel that
- They hardly ever see people who cry. So they're sinners because they feel emotions but they still hide their tears just in case?
- Eh, I think the setting might've had a little more strength with a slow burn? There was a lot of mysteries piling up but now it doesn't totally seem like figuring out the mysteries will be a reward since the bad guys kinda destroyed a lot of the things that made us care about the mysteries in the first place? Now we've kinda just swerved into a battle shounen, which I like those and like those when things get bloody too, but I'm also watching four or five other shounen battle anime of this type already.

Hmm, haven't really decided yet. I can probably only manage one beyond 3gatsu and Kujira no Kora... Based on E3 or 4 or wherever you've gotten beyond me, which would you vote for of Inuyashiki, Houseki no Kuni and Mahoutsukai no Yome?

If it's me, Inuyashiki, but I am a lot more into this psychopathic thing than you are.
If I had to choose between the other two, Ancient Magus Bride feels like it's going to be more longterm and go more places than Houseki no Kuni.

-when warships come to destroy your innocent new friends is not the best time to start feeling emotions
-everyone's just frozen at these warlike jokers using magic to shoot guns until someone drops down bleeding, and then it's panic
-Meanwhile people who haven't seen it are just like "oh hey, joker dude, how's it hanging?" It really makes you feel how peaceful and isolated and clueless a place this is
-Oh no, leader's dead and the flowers crushed. Lots of little stories cut short on this island, all those glimpses of ordinary lives we've seen.
-When Chakuro sees Sami's not responding and takes stock of the situation, he switches into retroactive description for a moment, as if to avoid having to tell this part from close-up
-And now it hits him
-Falaina Sinner Extermination sounds pretty ominous. So they're into records too, though.
-Ouni realizes what kind of world it is out there and is fucking done
-The way Suou is so completely horrified at Ouni returning the violence but also immediately wonders if that's the only way, like he knows the situation's so outside of the understanding they use to evaluate the world that you're not going to get right answers evaluating it that way but also that's the only way he has to evaluate it, so he can't just be like "way to go, kick their asses".
-Purple-haired joker acts like they have feelings but don't but is excited by genocide and thrilled about butchering cute girls
-Leaving Lykos here as a human to see what Falaina does to the body???
-Ouni tortured the soldiers before he killed them; I like the way they're contrasting how out in the rest of the world he's the only one of them who can take it on, but on the Mud Whale his ability to deal with the outside world takes him from 'troublemaker' to 'monstrous,' it's chronicling not just the attack but also a shattering culture clash and what might survive vs what's forever altered.
I'm really hoping it's not just going to go into battle shounen mode; the importance they've made of the culture and the mysteries and the record-keeping, the almost anthropological feel, makes me think they're still planning to tell a story about that land and that way of life and what the mysteries mean for it and what the loss of this small, shut-off, innocent, beautiful place means for the outside world. I'll be pretty disappointed if not, at any rate.

Ugh, I just realized I hadn't even watched Mahoutsukai no Yome 2, I've lost track of what I'm watching at all.
- Mahoutsukai no Yome E2:
-that maid costume combined with that hairstyle makes her head look weirdly shaped
-letter bird! That's exactly the kind of neat detail I want to see in a daily life fantasy setting!
-she's not taking the bait on "don't I look handsome with this magical face, here, touch me" It's a little Howl's Moving Castle
-I don't love the style of character designs in this, but that friend is still kind of hot
-the little kid's angry face
-that axolotl-cat thing curling up around Chise's neck
-mistakes get you crystals in your skin? I'm liking the stuff about how magic works in this world
-axolotl-cat's face when it's not getting petted
-she goes into flashback mode just trying to think of her favourite flower
-nice crystal flower garden!
-Still can't get over the stupidity of "sleigh beggy"
-chibi version of Ainsworth is hilariously adorable, that skull face
-magical equipment-shopping I'm always a sucker for that, wish they would have told us a little more about her inventory, hopefully we'll get more details later
-what does he mean by doing services both as a priest and as a pastor? Isn't the difference between those just that they're different branches of Christianity? I don't think you can be both!
-"I'm but a pitiful lamb cowering in fear of the terrible mage." "Die."
I'm liking this much better this episode, it doesn't feel as much like they're shoving sad Cinderella story and romance tropes at us as hard to try and catch our interest, it's more just laid-back day-to-day in a fantastical setting, which is much more fun. And the whole apprentice/family/pet/wife thing feels less creepy now that she's meeting people who seem to be keeping an eye out for her instead of just her being passive and isolated and it's pushing it as romantic less aggressively. It's still not blowing my mind or grabbing my heart, but I'll keep going a little.

It sort of makes me wish we could have it be a story about something other than fighting sociopathic serial killers, maybe there's something less done they could be doing. But hopefully the 'old guy who was about to die' aspect will make it still do something original with it.
-Old dude defeats rude line-cutters (who also kill people who say "hey, there's a line", what is with this shitty universe)
-I love how he fights like a little old man who's helpless and maybe a touch senile, even though he's a super-powered robot who kicks everyone's ass
-he has to take off his shirt to figure out how to rocket-fly
-And he finally manages to do it by singing the Astro Boy theme
-his whole learning to fly bit had me laughing my face off
-and he's crying because he saved them
-at least serial killer looks out for his friend. But it's a pretty weird feeling going back to kind of rooting for him briefly, after the sadistic murders last episode.

-Oh shit, friend stands up to him. Way to go friend, but also
-Huh, he took the friend breakup pretty well.
-Oh nooo, the cat Learn to use your healing powers!!
-even though Inuyashiki's got an incredible array of robot powers, he still panics at anything unexpected
-straight to the hospital to heal everyone
-he doesn't kill the kids - because they're friends?
Looking more like it's not going to be one of those shows that just wants to lovingly catalog horrifying things and watch serial killers be sadistic, so that's an improvement imo. Getting more into unexpected stuff like that he really seems to care about his friend, and focusing more on how Inuyashiki gets a grip on his powers and how he's going to defeat him is way more interesting to me.

-the answer might be fighting but fighting might be self-destruction, and power is a lie and a trap but it might also be freedom, but that might be self-destruction too? That's the best I can figure from all that vision-stuff. Either that or it's some kind of death-prophecy.
-What the hell was that?? Was Neri channeling spirits, or is she some kind of prophet, or what?
-Getting back emotions for the first time would probably always involve a lot of crying, being on a doomed island probably doesn't help that
-Ouni doesn't like being psychoanalyzed
-Man, this island's guards suck
-he calls her oneesama and she just instantly switches sides
-Head guard gets some badass thymia going and then just silently walks away b/c he'd rather fight Ouni

I think this episode is still supporting my sense that it's not going to turn into a shounen battle show.

And then they start happily imagining the things they'd fill the apartment with if they lived in one.
And just for a few seconds they're half-asleep and imagining what living in it would be like, with the sounds of happy children in the background and fish that look exactly like the one they found on the countertops and apartment lights on in the windows in the background.
And then they wake up and continue one with their lives because they'll run out of food if they stay there

Man, the architecture of these cities is so weird.
The way they leave their vehicle out there all the time without worrying about it, because whentf are they ever going to see anyone else anyways?
While it's raining out, they set up a bunch of cans and things so that it makes noise when rain drips on them. "Maybe this is what they call music."
