Demon Slayer - Mugen Train Arc Episode 1
Oh man, that was hype
A pretty self-contained episode if you've ever wanted to see what's up, too. They apparently had to create some extra stuff to fill out a full season while chopping up the movie, it doesn't even star the main character at all

Sakugan is like if they took Dimension W's style and then used it to mash Made In Abyss and the opening bit of Gurren Lagann together, but it's also like Dimension W is to Cowboy Bebop in that it's not quite being what it's trying to be. Plus kaiju

- "Our goal is the suburbs!" I lol'ed because I assumed he just hated people in the suburbs and why not draw the Kaiju there
- I really like how expressive their little digger mecha is, especially when it activated its drill

- "Even if I die, don't panic." Damn, that's some kind of advice
- "Accept partings and keep going." That would be why he got over Walsh and Lynda so quick

Lupin 3 Part 6 E0
The old-school style and voices have a real goofy charm, it's almost like watching one of those French/anime collab shows they used to have on TVO or some such when I was a kid.
Sakugan E2 Â The shifts between comedy, action and drama are a little rough, but overall I'm onboard. Â Also, I like how frog-like the mecha's face is.

- The bit where he calmly tells her if he dies just accept it and keep going or you'll get lost, and then casually says he's still lost. The sort of matter-of-fact treatment of people dying and even despair gives a solidity to what this world is like.

I wonder if the french styling is on purpose because Lupin III is supposed to be the grandson of a fictional french thief

I think the animation was all Japanese, the writing might have been the French part or maybe France just operated as the gateway to the West for some anime. I have no idea.

I'm assuming it was listed as "Episode 0" because it was a standalone where this seems like it's going to be a longer-term storyline

- Eyyyyy Sherlock Holmes (apparently the original Arsene Lupin author used Sherlock in his own stories but Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was like "AYO" and he changed the name to Herlock Sholmes)
- Opening fire in a crowded area with poor visibility may not be the best idea, Inspector
- Everyone's got rocket launchers and massive explosives and no problem firing in public areas
- Can see where Cowboy Bebop got a lot of its influences from
- His magnum can't do anything against a tank, that's what the Katana is for
- Doh, looks like Watson peaced out somehow
- Dohohohohoooooo Sherlock and Lupin have historyyyy
- Lupin scaring the shit out of Lily for some reason

-the combo of 70s, Victorian and ultra-modern is weird, but in a fun way
-the OP is so exactly this show
-I'm not sold on their Sherlock Holmes design
-I find it kind of hilarious that Holmes knew something was up because a bookstore opened selling shit without much chance of making any profit; like 80% of independent bookstores seem to exist with the mindset that the owner needs an excuse to own more books, and if they sell any, they'll have less books.
-beating up tanks with samurai swords in the middle of London
-Holmes has a kid, why not, I guess? But I sort of don't get the point of calling it Sherlock Holmes if you're changing things around that much. Wonder what's up with Watson.
-Woah, Lily's reaction to Lupin, he's so chill I can't imagine anyone being scared of him.

-I like how completely done with everything Gagumber is, just picking his nose and reading while his young child with no experience here maneuvers across chasms on spindly pipes in deadly territory.
-instant noodles again, that child must be so malnourished
-I kind of wonder if the shooting stars at the tower are really rockets and it's something horrible up there
-I might go crazy if she says she's clever one more time
-tea-drinking badguy shows up
I would have liked to be getting a little more about the world by now instead of focusing on pretty stock character development like this, the characters are fine in context of an interesting world and the back-and-forth between dark and lighthearted to keep you off-balance, but they don't hold up that well to a pure character/lesson episode.

Yeah, Sakugan seems like an anime that's grabbed from other, better animes and just inserted stock stuff into it

I could still see Sakugan getting better as it goes along and maybe moves past some of the stock character stuff, though. It might not, but there's some hope.

I think the going adventuring through Europe part is just part of their getaway (and probably faked), it's not totally leaving the plotline.

-Fujiko sees Holmes at the door and immediately starts stuffing then entire foot-long poster down her cleavage
-I love that she had the time in the middle of their sudden escape to change into a motorcycle outfit (not sarcastic, I do love that

-Sherlock Holmes is quite the badass
-Boom goes the building, for a master thief, Lupin really doesn't keep things subtle
-I find all the Lily stuff kind of heavy-handed, feels like they're pushing sympathy for Holmes way too hard with it

-this badass thief woman is a little too cliched to be interesting, even though it's a type I generally like.
Not feeling this episode, they haven't gotten far enough into the plot or made me enjoy the characters enough to get away with just meandering around like this. I need a little more of the world and the tension in there to care about this stuff.
