Re: Fall Anime 2021
Lupin III pt VI E9
- Spoiler:
-Japan loves the name Zeke, every third English character in anything is named that
-what the fuck is Lupin dust?
-giving them an expensive watch, what's her angle here?
-also, that hug looked highly suspicious
-oh, it's a bug, that was surprisingly quick to answer my question, usually that kind of thing comes back to hit me in the surprise twist at the end
-I hate that "wheelchair user can really walk, they're so untrustworthy" trope
-that old lady's smirk when Fujiko comes to save them, she was counting on that
-hug was suspicious
-it's just pepper (wouldn't it have gotten ruined by now in a leaky box like that?)

- Memempu trying to keep hopes and dreams alive and this very Japan-like City of Dreams is like "lol, you just do what your parents do."
- D'awww they painted the same thing
- Bureau-Man wants to protect this culture but it's also super restrictive
- That fall probably should have killed Memempu, anime
- Oops, Gagumber isn't Memempu's real father

Lupin III pt 6 E10
What the fuck?
- Spoiler:
-this looks like a standard colony-of-the-day exploration episode, hopefully Shibito's presence will mean they give us something more than that.
-Gagumber stops mid-kidnapping to yell at the tv for reporting on him
-He finally gets to go to a strip club because apparently that's one of this princess/diva's dreams
-how does she even know things like videogames and strip clubs exist if she was so restricted she never even got to play at a playground, doesn't seem like she'd have been allowed to watch tv or listen to the radio or anything like that either?
-They're spending way too long on this random person I don't care about's story, I was really hoping now that they'd gotten going with the more important stuff they'd dial back on this colony-of-the-day with a inspirational-poster-lesson-of-the-day stuff
-oh, I like that they're really ending with "not everyone gets the chance to live their dream, be glad if you have the support to do it." And singing on stage is one of her pictures, so there's a bittersweet but not totally crushing sense that maybe you can have some things you want, but no one gets everything and you've just got to live the life you've got. And Memempu just not getting it.
-Still a pretty pointless episode, though
-Gagumber's not her real dad, I've been wondering about that, they've always seemed a little suspicious there
Lupin III pt 6 E10
- Spoiler:
-this lesson of the day is more interesting than most
-forgery itself is beautiful. (Actually, forgery in general is pretty fascinating to me, both the philosophical "if it's indistinguishable from the original, what's the value of 'real?'" and that it's done by people with incredible, genius-level skill, but they use it to replicate rather than to do something original to them, and it's criminal but also doesn't really harm anyone, seems like it's full of interesting characters)
-Jigen thinks being motivated by beauty is bad news compared to money or honour
-whenever Fujiko and Lupin are flirting, I always think "but imagine having sex with someone with that goofy a voice?!"
-the original fossil is... Lucifer?? Huh?
What the fuck?

- Jigen's car sounds like a dungeon when it opens up
- Hell of a gadget that can make time loop like that
- Oh, so we're stealing... something of Satan's?
- Oh, the big G
Well, okay

Sakugan 12 [Finale]
Apparently Lupin III is having two episodes this weekend
- Spoiler:
- "Why are you free?" Hmmmm
- Ohoooo, Memempu should be able to remember things from the moment of her birth
- So, Braniac kids designed to keep the Underworld going no matter what?
- Awww shiiit, Mecha Boss fight
- Was about to toss the Ururop map
- "You tryin' to be funny?"
- Gagumba jumps down into the Animus, fuck ;_;
- Gagumba doing the Monkey D. Luffy
- Well, Shibito-guy had to go fix a leaky ceiling or something I guess
- And now a Gurren Lagann style big drill
- Wheeling someone that looked like Memempu's mom away sneakily
- Lured them to a rewards ceremony so they could be arrested
Apparently Lupin III is having two episodes this weekend

Re: Fall Anime 2021
Sakugan 12
- Spoiler:
-her mom's been added to the dream
-"we're all already corpses" from a suicide bomber child
-holy fuck he just shoots the detonator out of his hand
-ooh, was she grown in a lab?
- the dream is really her past?! That's a hell of a twist
-except that'd mean Gagumber isn't really dead/going to die in it so takes a lot of the tension out of it
-this show is kind of interesting in how the main character's perspective is a quite young child's, but it shows things to the viewer from an adult perspective, it's not a show aimed at the age-group of its protagonist (contrast with Made in Abyss, which also has very young characters, but it shows things more at the main characters' level - horrifyingly rather than age-appropriately, but still feels like we see the world from their level rather than looking down at them from an adult's level and seeing them first and foremost as kids, the characters come across as the people you project into and share a lot of their understanding even though they're young kids). And with Gagumber so often being really childish, it's true to a lesser extent even with him, though he more often does operate as the audience's avatar. You get stuff like this revelation that Gagumber's not her birth father, which is shattering to Memepu, but the show's set up such that the viewers (along with Gagumber) immediately see that it's not an emotionally meaningful/important revelation other than to her, he clearly is her father in every way that matters. It makes you feel for her as a little kid, rather than making you project into the character's feelings directly. I wouldn't say it's bad, or good, but it's different.
-realizing the dream of Gagumber looking like he's dying was the past makes her blame herself for it, and for trying to seek it even though she thought she was dreaming his future death, and for putting him at risk along the way.
-being a smart kid makes it easy to see everything as hopeless and cynical
-walking right through animus to her
-doesn't really make sense that the Shibito just gives up there
-"What do you expect to accomplish?" "Not a damn thing, I just hate you guys"
-mystery person in a wheelchair? It looked like her mom in the dream/memory, but also seemed pretty small to be an adult, I thought, so maybe a sister?
-they think they're getting awards but it's a warrant
Well, they didn't do everything right (could have easily scrapped about half the episodes in favour of giving Yuri more point outside of the comedy, and letting Zakul have a little more meaningful screentime after revealing she's Zack, and introducing more important plot points and worldbuilding bits earlier on so they feel more natural), but it got the heart right when it counts, so I'm on board for another season.

Re: Fall Anime 2021
Lupin III Part 6 E11
- Spoiler:
- Bringing Lily-chama along to a murder scene, not good parenting, Holmes
- D'awww, some Baker Street fools but they're adults
- Holmes collapses and now the Lupin gang's in an all-out firefight
- Did Holmes fake an illness just to PTSD Lily so she can remember something he needs to solve a case
- Well sure, we'll flip a car
- Now Lupin is quoting Sherlock Holmes (and/or his descendant, Spock)
- Well, Lily got over that pretty quickly
- Okay, so if the poster was worthless to the investigation, you didn't have to destroy it, Holmes
- So our man Faulkner was a Vampire
- Zenigata just sitting there acting like he knew all of this was gonna go down
- O-oh, it was a bomb

Re: Fall Anime 2021
Lupin III Part 6 E12
- Spoiler:
- 9/11 style implosion
- It was the darn french all along
- I like how everyone announces their arrival with a guns
- Now everyone who was an ally is shooting at each other
- Lupin and Holmes definitely faked that fight
- It was that darn Lestrade all along
- "Lily, are you okay after about the 10th fucking time I've dragged you into danger on purpose to trigger your PTSD so I can solve this case?"
- Welp, the Raven was smart enough to set up a criminal underworld but not smart enough to re-arm their stock of bombs through illegal means
- Damn, Lestrade so cut up about killing Watson that he's going to blow himself up dramatically
- Holmes has himself a preteen rival
- Dohohohooo that blush when he called Lily "Watson"

Re: Fall Anime 2021
Lupin III Part 6 E11
- Spoiler:
-that's fucking adorable, they made the Baker Street Irregulars adults that report to the kid instead of the other way round
-oh no, is Holmes dying? I can't really see Lupin's crew adopting Lily if he does, but anything else would seem like a pretty massive downer
-oh, the place of Watson's murder, probably that means Holmes was faking it for some reason, it'd be too weird a coincidence
-triggering her flashbacks by making her think he's dying at the site of her trauma, dad of the year here
-I find it weirdly entertaining whenever they slice up ridiculous shit with a sword
-he totally lost the poster on purpose
-if the poster's worthless, then...the frame, maybe?
-Lily apparently the one person who can tail Holmes without him noticing, maybe she should try to catch Lupin
-This just sent me down a rabbit hole about the sun rising and setting not being matched to the solstice and depending on location, I did not know that and was like "wtf, these writers don't know when solstice is!"
-solar activated room-bomb is way cooler than I envisioned, this show always goes so far over the top

Re: Fall Anime 2021
Lupin III pt 6 E12
Pretty good end to the arc. I guess I'll see how busy I feel with Titan-watching and anything else that seems worth picking up to decide whether to keep going on this one or not.
- Spoiler:
-Lupin's mustache falling off when Holmes is talking about how he's probably in disguise
-Fujiko showing up at exactly the right moment, as usual
-they're talking about French spy disguised as a Brit and when he brought up Faulkner's fashion sense, I thought it was going to be "he's too stylish to be British!"
-they shouted "Eliot" as if that's someone familiar, but I have absolutely no memory of an Eliot
-translating "kisama" as "you blighter"
-Fujiko ratted Lupin out to Zenigata, not sure if it's part of a plan or if she's just femme fatale-ing
-holy fuck, Holmes takes Zenigata out because he wants to take Lupin down, what an asshole
-Oh FUCK! It's fucking Lestrade?!?
-And of course Holmes, triple asshole, played dead to trigger Lily again
-Raven's treasure was just the old bombs they used to threaten government and gain control, and the underlings have just kept protecting them because the leadership dissolved without telling them to stop, that's kinda cool
-wants them to tell Lily he's sorry
-Lupin actually got Watson's last words and has just been protecting her, no treasure involved. I wonder if his crew was on board with that or if they didn't know.
-Holmes being all nice and Lupin's "screw that, I don't ever wanna see you again"
-Moriarty's a 12-yr-old
-Aww, Lily's Watson now
-pre-teens dramatically saying "it's been a long time" cracks me up, like how long is a long time, since you graduated elementary school?
Pretty good end to the arc. I guess I'll see how busy I feel with Titan-watching and anything else that seems worth picking up to decide whether to keep going on this one or not.
