Thanks. Yes, it is weird for me to see the U.S. do better than any other major developed country in anything significantly positive. I'm not used to it. Usually we're first in bad stuff.

We're on our way to the top of bad pretty fast right now, at least in my province!

That stinks. You live in Canada, or have I mistaken something?
Re: Joys and Good News
Yep. My province sucks.

Re: Joys and Good News
I'm drunk!
A state of being
I rarely enjoy
confusing as it is
and I'm confused enough as sober
but when I do enjoy
it's thanks to the company
my sister and her boyfriend.
I'm so profoundly happy
the two of them have met!

Re: Joys and Good News
As of the end of April I am now fully vaccinated against Covid-19! I scheduled a day off (a rare luxury for me) around a weekend expecting that "kick" of the second shot, and I sure as heck got it on Saturday. But some bedrest took care of it and now I'm as vaccinated as I can be.
Re: Joys and Good News
1. i'm getting my first vaccination on may 25, send happy thoughts it doesn't side effect the hell out of my immunocompromised ass
2. i'm working full-time at a place starting in august, i will presumably FINALLY be able to move out though there's still a lot more things to do
3. i am possibly potentially maybe getting to officially pitch a proof of concept within the next couple weeks. i actually did get a chance to pitch a different feature script a few weeks ago and it was rejected but i did pitch a thing for the first time since 2017.
4. i am dating a person and that's great but because we're poly i've been seeing another person and as of today i am also dating that person.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Woo! Multiple massive congratulations! All four of those are so awesome even individually!
My sister's immunocompromised and she didn't have particularly bad side effects, so sending you some of her vibes for the 25th!

Busker on the corner was playing a saw, made an eerie, alien-sounding note; it's nice to see things getting back to being weird and alive here, even if it's just for a moment before the next wave.

Re: Joys and Good News
After a month and a half in either a hospital or rehab center, my mother finally came home again on Sunday. She is recovering from pancreatic cancer and receiving major surgery (the Whipple Procedure), and it is taking some time to discover what she can and can't eat, or do. And she has to start chemotherapy soon, and we still have housing court stuff. But for now she is back home after what felt like a year and that is progress, and good news for me.

BAM. Replaced the bidet's busted gate valve in the same day at the first try! I'm getting somewhat good at this plumbing thing!

Re: Joys and Good News
May as well post some good updates, especially after Thanksgiving.
- About 6.5 months ago I was approached by a head hunter from a different department at my job to start working there. I was hesitant but so far it is one of the best decisions I've ever made. The work isn't as intense as the call center, and the pay is better. Plus, they still love me at the call center so if anything went bad I could likely return, but it hasn't, and I am not expecting it to. Which is usually when life hits me, but oh well.
- The Housing Court eviction case has ended in a mistrial. That doesn't dismiss it entirely but it does stall it for 2-4 months at least. A breather is nice.
- My mother is nearing her first year of survival after colon cancer surgery. She's opted not to go for chemo for her own reasons (namely that she was told by at least one doctor that it wouldn't improve her prognosis much and basically just make her last months/years more painful). We had our first "real" Thanksgiving meal together last week since 2020 (since last November she was in and out of the hospital for half the month). Her odds of surviving past 3-5 years, even with chemo, still remain at about 33%. But one day, one year, at a time.
- I go into this more in my own topic elsewhere but I have hit a little groove with some of my Deviantart fetish writing/roleplaying. It is at least one way in which I can express my sexuality in a safe and imaginative way, and the response there has been 99.5% positive. A few times someone has told me, "Well, you have to figure out some way to live as a virgin and not be so darn miserable and trigger yourself." Well, this is a way. It helps.
- Ever since DNL changed his website (or I noticed it), I don't seem to be banned anymore. At least when I logged in for fun on Discus. I guess after 5 years, my "long vacation" is over. To be honest I've stopped reading it so often (due to not wanting to go into despairing virgin spirals so much), so I doubt I will post there again. But it was nice to be unbanned. I like the more laid back attitude to things here, even if it would be cool if we had more regular posters.
Hope other people have some goodness going on. We all need it.

My puppy learned "where's your toy?" in less than a day, and now he will bring me a toy to play with him instead of trying to chew my hands. He is a smart boy.

TIL I can whip up 50 portions of pasta primavera without a recipe and just using whatever’s at the food pantry, and I can improvise a pretty decent creamy alfredo sauce. Feels nice, since I couldn’t cook for shit before COVID.
