Re: Politics and Current Events
I may have said this before, but it's been much on my mind lately, and I think one of the best things that Ruth Bader Ginsburg could do to help protect the rights of women in the future is retire RIGHT NOW. While we still have a Democrat in the White House.

Glad to see that the archbishop of Indianapolis essentially told Indiana's governor to stuff it by welcoming in a Syrian family of four for resettlement by the archdiocese's Catholic Charities, despite the governor being one who said refugees aren't welcome in his state and specifically asking the archbishop not to.

Remember Martin Shkreli, who jacked up the price of Daraprim 5,000%?
He just won the Nelson Muntz Award this morning by getting arrested for securities fraud.

Talk about a whole new world...
30% of Republicans and 19% of Democrats think it's proper for the USA to bomb Agrabah.

It'll be all over the news in the morning, but in case you missed it, David Bowie kicked the bucket.

More on the current events side of things than the politics one, but...wow, if I was reading a book in which Martin Shkreli was a character, I'd critique it as making the villain unrealistically and over the top evil and toolish.

Re: Politics and Current Events
Some Republican guy or something said that most of Donald Trump's voter-base are "people who masturbate to anime" that don't amount to anything
An amazing world of possibilities just opened up
1) Nerds are gonna go at whoever said that
2) Trolls are even more likely to vote for Trump now
3) "Masturbating to anime" is being used to politically attack an opponent in the year of our Lord Two Thousand and Sixteen Anno Dominio
4) Some journalists will now try to find out if this is true
5) If it is or it is perceived to be, the religious and Republican base will attack Donald Trump over people wanking to Japanese cartoons
6) If it is perceived to REALLY be, some old and out of touch politicians may okay the practice to get votes (Rand Paul is all for personal freedom, isn't he? )
There isn't enough popcorn

Those armed militia people in Oregon are paving a road through the wildlife refuge and no one's doing shit about it. WTF, government! Do something about this.
The Paiute Indians are pissed off, too, since that's historical land of theirs.

There are artifacts stored on the property as well, with Palute permission. And, of course, the militia idiots can't help but rummage through them.

Re: Politics and Current Events
Yeah, there are some legit conversations to be had about federal seizure of big portions of the western US and whether that's okay (nevermind radicalmode sentiments like "hahaha how do you like the taste of your own brutal and cunning dispossession tactics, whitemen"), but there are zero legit conversations to be had in defense of fucking with Paiute artifacts. And, you know, unlicensed paving in both a wildlife refuge and archaeological site. Christ.

Dear the former governor of Alaska,
No, it's not President Obama's fault that your son, who served in Iraq, has PTSD. We really shouldn't be politicizing that.

Dear the illustrious governor of my state.
You're in New Hampshire. When a local mayor says this storm was worse than Sandy, you ought trust him rather than call him crazy.

Ted Cruz upsets Trump in the Iowa primary. Many may be happy about this. I'm not. Cruz is electable, and he's stealth evil. Y'know, compared to Trump.

Trump annoys me, Cruz scares me. I know something is amiss when I am rooting for Rubio, Bush or Christie just to avoid the chance of Cruz maybe being president

Yes. Cruz is scary. To me, partly because he's electable. He essentially wants some sort of repressive theocracy.

Here's a scary phrase I've had rattling around in my head since Trump's New Hampshire win last night:
Donald Trump with nuclear launch codes.

Congress would hopefully keep him in check back home, but foreign policy could really be up in the air.

Re: Politics and Current Events
That's what I'm thinking. Congress can keep a rein on many things, but using nuclear launch codes is at the discretion of the president. There's no checks and balances on that. And unlike even Cruz, Trump's not a politician. He's used to having to listen to nobody.
Pulling for Rubio or Bush on the Republican side at this point, I think.

I wouldn't trust Donald Trump to water my plants if his fortune was at stake, but for the same reason, I don't mind him being the candidate. I don't think he has the broad appeal or the discipline for a general election. Cruz is who scares me, because I think he has or can fake both, and I think he's just as unhinged in his own way.

Re: Politics and Current Events
New Hampshire hasn't selected a President in a contest Primary since 1988. They're kind of the hipster/white-boy vote and not something you can really use to indicate the rest of the country's leanings
