I'm having a bit of a mini-freakout about my weekend at the dance festival in Milan, Italy. Flights tonight. I have this sense that I need to act like a representive of my country while I'm abroad at the event (even though I'm not taking part in any kind of contest or something like that). Kind of scared about going abroad without my family for the first time ever, but I hope it's just general nervousness more than anything.

Primary goal for this trip - HAVE FUN, learn some new dance variations, meet cool people from around the world.

Though I now also need to keep an open mind and see if I feel ready for the very real possibility of finding myself in some sort of casual romantic interactions of any kind while I'm there. The consensus in my dance scene is that these events tend to be more free-spirited and sexually open then others, so I will try and see if I am ready for such a thing (wether it's mere kissing or more than that) at all.

Okay dude, so you just wasted my time and your study time arguing with me over how stupid our policy of requiring student ID's for a study room is and trying to get me to bend the policy because you didn't have your ID with you when you're supposed to have it on you at all times on campus only to come back in fifteen minutes with your ID and your group member's ID's? If you had the stupid thing why did we even have an argument?

I don't know what's worse, that you got pissed at the building staff for taking the pitiful little condiments and few leftover drinks from your fancy meeting you're always having in our building after it was over, or the fact that you actually complained and required staff to return the coffee creamers, sweeteners, and few snack size chip bags.
And nice of you to throw your staff under the bus on this one, Head Person. At least you're consistent in your inability to show a spine.

You fought your wife for primary custody of two children under the age of five, despite not being the primary caregiver and against the advice of every primary caregiver parent you know. You won and now have sole custody and child support. Do not complain now about how you now have no time to date and how unfair it is your ex is free to do whatever she wants and does not want to change the custody arrangements. You got what you wanted and fought an ugly fight for. No one's fault but your own that you did not realize what you were getting.

I don't know what to say. Every time I break up with a SO, I always get poetic texts that are a mile long at some point as we either rehash or feelingsvomit while we struggle with no contact.

But I never have these poetic, imagery laden texts to send back. I feel clunky with my own feelings and my verbosity goes straight down the tubes when I'm suddenly asked to respond to an emotional outpouring via text.

And it's not like every breakup is easy; even if you still love someone and are making a healthy decision, what am I supposed to tell you? I can't comfort you in the realm of us breaking up because Im' comforting myself.

Sorry, I know my former post was related to this too, but I still feel rant-y about it. Losing confidence due to feels is upsetting when you know you made the 'right' choice.

So here is the backstory: I'm a member of a different message board that is mostly for the creation of visual novels. The vast majority of the people there are visual novel creators and quite a bit of the threads are about asking for advice, or advertising your project, or recruiting for team members...etc. There are also quite a few people who are just there to learn about new Visual Novels.

So, sometime ago, there was a discussion about there not being enough substantive critique. Just a lot of "That is great!" So someone game up with an "Honest Critique" button. Which would signal, that the person showing the button welcomed honest critique and would also give it.

So a few weeks ago there was a discussion where someone said, "I don't like this button because the default on these forums is that we give honest feedback not the exception." In this thread I argued that I didn't think that was true. That too often people say "I want feedback"--but they really only want people to say, "That is great!" I was told I was being silly.

Fastforward to now.

Someone posted a character profile and asked for feedback on the character concept. I should have noticed the person didn't have the "Honest Critique" button in their sig. I should have realized that even though they asked for feedback...they really only wanted...mostly praise.

So I looked it over. The character was a 700 year old demon in the body of a 10 year old girl. And the drawing of the 10 year old girl was a sexualized anime girl. The character is a lesbian...by choice because she hates and fears men. And she also is mentally unstable and violent.

So I said...using I-statements:

I don't particularly like sexualized 10 year olds (even if they are "really" 700).
I don't particularly like narratives that play into the tired stereotype that lesbians choose lesbianism due to fear and dislike of men.
I don't particularly like things that seems to play into homicidal lesbian stereotypes.

So this game is not for me.

And I get jumped on for being mean. And oh, I could have been mean. But I refrained from actually being harshly critical. I used I statements. I said the game is not for me.

I have to remember that people so often don't actually one honest critique. They want people to tell them that they are great no matter how offensive what they are putting out there is.

Grr...

ETA: Second thought is, fuck if they weren't asking for anything but affirmation. Someone needed to call them out on perpetuating gross and disturbing tropes and stereotypes, whether or not they wanted to hear it.

So. After all these serious and kind of big issue rants (which are totally fine and I'm glad everyone has space to vent), here comes Bunny complaining about her dragon breeding game.

So wait, let me get this straight. You want a TG noc with very specific colours. I own the only un-exalted noc on the site with the colour combination you want, it's for sale, and the only problem with it is the eye colour. Which isn't actually a *problem* as such, since when you first asked about it you wanted to rent it to breed your dream dragon anyway.

It's already half the price of other nocs with the same genes and - not the same colours but - similarly well-coordinated ones. I reduce it in price by a further third, because I want to do you a favour and because I know the original price is more than you were originally going to pay for the hypothetical future offspring of said noc.

And that's still more money than you're willing to pay? And as an alternative you ask if I would be willing to forego selling this dragon I know I can sell for more than I offered to you, keep it and feed it for the month+ it takes to get a noc to breeding age and then *rent* it to you to breed your dream dragon? Presumably, again, for less than I was willing to sell you it for?

...Do you not realise you're asking me to spend money/resources on a dragon I don't want to keep? And that with the way dragon pricing changes over time I won't be able to sell a bred adult noc or it's offspring in one month for as much as I can sell this noc at the current market price? and you're offering me *less* money for the service than if I just sold it now?

I'm not saying you're a bit of a cheap bastard but... you're being kind of a cheap bastard.

Good grief. Adding to everything you pointed out, if this person is willing to wait a whole month to acquire your dragon, it seems as if they could likewise wait a month for the price of nocturnes to fall. Unless the color combination is a very odd one, i will eventually become available.

And we're reaching the hour and a half mark till my research paper is due. It's not even halfway done. It's crap. It's fucking horrendous. There's literally no way to make it good. I'm actually going to fail out of college. No one in my family has ever failed out of college before. And I'm going to be the first.
