Re: Ajin: Demi-Human
- episode 3:
-Something is up with Kai. Humans cannot punch through motorcycle helmets after falling off cliffs.
-Oh snap he saw the ghooost, he better get to know it and be BFFs with it
-The "how are they made" thread of inquiry seems interesting, not a bad direction to take this
-Oh no assistant-chan
-Hat man. What is your deal. Do you just psychologically break Ajins to use them as murder weapons in hospitals, or are you like Mr. Miyagi for them and you're gonna teach Kei to unleash his full potential in a training montage? Are you an Ajin? Is Ajin-hunter man an Ajin and that's why he's so scared of you? Do you MAKE Ajins? New main character: hat man

Re: Ajin: Demi-Human
- Spoiler:
Kai has a rock in his hand when he smashes through the motorcycle guy's helmet
I specifically remember this because I was like "Why aren't his knuckles destroyed?" and that was why

Ahhh okay, will take my suspicion of Kai's Ajin-hood down a notch. You get the Eye for Anime Details Award 2016, between this and the amount of minutiae you caught in ErasedKai has a rock in his hand when he smashes through the motorcycle guy's helmet

Re: Ajin: Demi-Human
- episode 4:
-Yup, of course assistant-chan has a totally sweet headless black ghost
-Black ghost fights almost justify the choice of animation style, it actually looks about right for them if not for humans
-Oh jeez what happens to Tanaka's ghost once it's destroyed?
-What the heck is Eriko's problem with Kei, he seems like an okay brother
-Don't trust Hat Man, Kei, you dummy, you can't ever trust the characters who never open their eyes
-I wonder what kind of crime Kai's father did and/or whether Kai knows how to do crimes real good, that might be handy later

Re: Ajin: Demi-Human
- Episode 8:
-Why are the Ajin that Satou gathered all men? Is it on purpose or did the show just forget women exist?
-That fucking Hat, "oh, we'll all just do the best we can." Meaning what? "Mass murder."
-The new kid looks like a cross between Kai and Kei
-And man, were the two objectors arguing long enough about jumping? Did they think the people chasing them with guns were just going to wait politely till they mustered up their courage to jump/push? (They were actually pretty patient, to be fair ) Kid should have pulled the other guy off the edge with him, too, give him a chance to die and escape.
-So it hadn't occurred to Tanaka that taking up terrorism might cause a major retaliation and hunt for Ajins? Jeez, between that half-baked escape and this, Satou's apparently gonna have to do the thinking for everyone involved in this plan, on both sides.
-Yay Obaasan! She can't bike, but at least she's pretty cool to Ajins. There's enough awfulness going on in this show that I find myself rooting really hard for the regular people who are decent human beings.
-Ambulance! Annoying neighbour saves the day! That's two for ordinary bystanders today!
-Not too thrilled we seem to have added a second generic-seeming protagonist. Other than the mystery of if Kei's a sociopath or what and why his sister hates him, he's the least interesting character on this show, and the new guy has the exact same generic polite-and-unprepared-but-trying-his-best vibe. Just hoping we don't have to get the same story of him slowly getting used to it and that they've got something more interesting planned for him to jump in.
-Brace for impact

I AM BRACED!!!
-Kai/Kei/Kou Why do the creators hate us? Also, when do Kii and Kuu get introduced? (And then are we going to meet Sai, Sei, Shii, Sou and Suu?) Glad to hear he's going to have a personality, though.

- Ep 5:
-Poor assistant-chan, I wonder how she got into that sitch with ajin hunter man
-HAT MAN CUTTING OFF HIS TRANQUILIZED ARM
-Really Hat's whole hallway action sequence A stylistically cool and clever use of ajin powers
-Starting an army of disaffected ajin, hat man? Pissed that Kei didn't torture up real nice into a sociopathic hyperkiller? WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS SIR
-Those better be your own organs you're selling dude

- YEEEEEEEEESSSSSSS!!! HAAAAAAAAT! I think that hallway sequence is the best part I've seen so far! (ETA: Though the next episode doesn't slow down the action one bit)
Also, in irritatingly vague non-spoiler thoughts, your phrasing in the bit about The Hat's plans makes for an interesting angle on what Bomaye and I were discussing after Episode 6 (or possibly vice versa, hard to say) so I hope I remember what my thought is on that when you get there.

Re: Ajin: Demi-Human
- ep 6:
-Ah, the what-if-the-regenerated-bit-was-your-head line of rhetoric from earlier resurfaces. Huh, I wonder if that's why assistant-chan's black ghost doesn't have a head. Did she have to grow a new pliable brain to be Tosaki's guard dog?
-Everything The Hat does while fighting is super cool
-Oh Kei, you ultimate boy scout saving these researchers, are you aiming to be the Drizzt Do'Urden of ajins or something?
- I love that "why is this happening to me" is his black ghost's trigger word. SELFPITY KAIJU ACTIVATE
-Oh lord, Hat Man's black ghost has a precious little hat too
-So I guess Kei was already a sociopath and didn't need to be tortured into one, he's just the lame kind that doesn't want to murder?
-This whole seeing-each-others'-memories bit when the black ghosts headbutt is interesting. Assuming the African kid from the pilot was one of Hat Man's memories? Was he there to "catch" the first one?
-Raining, huh, Hat? What's that got to do with anything?
-Black ghost disobeying orders = Kei is going to wreck the world
OKAY NOW WHAT WERE Y'ALL'S THOUGHTS
edit: I see that I was not the only one thinking "bro's a sociopath"
The focus on being an upstanding person really does make sense as a way to paper over a sense that he's not like other humans, beyond being an Ajin. And in a creepy way, it makes perfect sense that a sociopath would have a black ghost with way more free will, if your black ghost is supposed to be a mirror of your psyche-- unhindered by all that inconvenient emotional loyalty that maybe the other black ghosts feel towards their hosts?

I think most of our Episode 6/Page 2 discussion was on this bit

- Spoiler:
I was actually assuming he WAS the first one that was caught in the opening bit. His military training, paramilitary type operation and black market contacts kind of got me thinking that way.

Re: Ajin: Demi-Human
- Episode 6 thought as promised:
- Maybe he can't break Kai and make him into a sociopathic killer because he's already a sociopath and has his own pre-established moral guidelines to look to, one that's not based on an empathy that could be destroyed or turned to hatred through trauma at the hands of humans. It makes him incredibly strong in the face of hatred.

- Spoiler:
- But wouldn't the first Ajin in the whole world, much less one who was caught and then escaped, be so incredibly famous that he can't walk down the street without people mobbing him? I'd put my money at this point on Hat invisibly pulling the puppet strings for that first Ajin, Tanaka-style, like beta testing him under the radar in some shitty African war that the world was ignoring.
edit: Enail:
- Spoiler:
- Ooooh, yes, that logic works perfectly. Hat Man banking on emotional-empathetic human frailties -> his plan is fucked if he doesn't understand that sociopaths will not share those pivotal frailties and will need to be brainwashed/broken in other, more creative ways.

- Spoiler:
- N-no, uh, brainwashing is b-boring, and I hope everything from episode 7 onwards is about Kei starting a nice quiet life in Kyushu and training sheepdogs, not fascinating meditations on the thin, fragile psychological membranes that separate our conscious wills from what others want them to be

They tried to keep the existence of Ajin secret initially. Tanaka became famous in the post-Ajin world.
But ye, that could very much be the case too. The God's Army rumour made it sound like there was more than one Ajin involved
Also y'alls need to gogogo and get to Episode 11 <_<
