Agreed! Did they really need to outright lie to us about when it's ending?? Is their goal to make an endless show that pretends it's not? Is their goal to make it feel endless from the massiveness of the emotional arc I go through every episode just about the quality of the scenes, with no room for emotions about the actual content? Who knows.

I binge-watched a bunch to get all caught up, and the advantage of doing that is that there's not really room to dwell on and process things for too long, so even though there were strange and questionable decisions being made with the show, I found myself being able to just go with it and enjoy the ride regardless. It had been so long since I last watched that I really did miss it, so I ended up feeling a certain nostalgia just from the experience of watching it again, even if it's not living up to the potential that was set up in the early seasons.
I'm definitely ready for it to end (and have been for some time), but I'm not exactly upset that there will still be a little bit more of it to experience.

It's interesting how different it comes off watched all at once from once a week! Though, I tend to lose steam much more easily for smaller flaws when I'm bingeing than when I have some time to cool down from my annoyance, so I think it might do different things for me than it does for you. But it probably would have at least eliminated some of the "wtf is this referring to?" bits because I would have forgotten less.

Doesn't it seem way too early for the spring season? We're only on like 8 or 9 of Vinland Saga, and I don't think that started super-late or anything. Damn, I guess I'm going to have to pause on Chainsaw Man, which is too bad, because I'm only halfway watching AoT out of enjoyment and the rest is kind of hate-watching at this point.

Well, that's convenient, I guess, though I don't love watching 1-hr episodes. I might do them in two parts, making it a 4-week run for me. But also feels very messy and clumsy. I was sort of hoping they had some kind of plan or reason for not wrapping up last season, this confirms that they really just fucked up and ran a little too long for no good reason. This show desperately needs an editor, it should have been 3 seasons, maaaaaabye 4.

So far actually quite good! It'd be nice if we could have a decent ending to this thing at last.

-Eren sees a refugee getting beat up, thinks he probably saves the kid in the future but then walks away and leaves him to get beat up instead?? Okay, that's kind of interesting, is it possible they could actually do something interesting with showing us Eren's side instead of just "ooh, so mysterious, is he good? is he evil? so cool," and endless grimdark/angst??
-oh wait, no he didn't. Guess it's probably just going to be grimdark/angst.
-ghostly Ymir watching the little refugee child's head get slowly crushed, brrr, they do a great job of making everything about Ymir so creepy
-that massive ribcage on tiny legs, gives kind of a feeling that all it is is a gaping, insatiable hunger, for something, that being a giant horrifying titan has no ability to fill
-they're also doing a nice job on overlaying that feeling of freedom of the outside world they wanted onto the horror he's creating now, maybe they're actually gonna do this right. It does kind of feel like they're more focused having only 2 hour-longs to finish it in, maybe they should have been doing it this way all along.
-Aw, Annie thanking Armin for visiting her all those years
-I never liked the whole"Armin is in love with Annie" reveal but this scene between them is pretty good; the way she dismisses his visits as him being a good person and gets up to go and he grabs her hand without looking at her and explains why no, he's not and she sinks back down again like "let's sit and be horribly broken monsters together, maybe that's love."
-Mikasa's not killing Eren, just bringing him back home. Wonder if there's a level of awfulness she could see him committing that would make her feel that killing Eren is the closest thing to bringing the Eren she knew back home or not
-Falco having a catch-up freakout
-Levi trying to operate the gear with most of his fingers gone
-Reiner's glad Annie didn't kill him, seems like he's reconciled himself at last
-Hange basically hitting on Pieck with her Titan fetish and Pieck's "that took a sudden, creepy turn."
-Levi's "Don't go and start sounding like him"
-Flock living up to his insane determinator status by showing up out of nowhere having clung to the fucking airship the whole way only to have Mikasa instantly kill him with a mosquito-swatting level of exertion, as expected
-can you really weld right onto a filled fuel tank with holes in it??
-whoops, Titan tripped and fell, Titans are so silly-seeming, even the Rumbling's a little slapstick
-Oh shit, Hange's gonna sacrifice herself against an entire fucking Rumbling to buy them time
-"I have the urge to make a supremely cool exit right now" with that manic smile, I love her

Man, being in OAV form really works for this show, I wish they'd done the whole thing this way!

-the titans just falling row upon row, her cloak starting to catch flame as she just keeps whipping through them

-Erwin and everyone who died greeting her and everything's peaceful under a blue sky
-Levi's gonna take Zeke out!
But given how injured he is, this is gonna be rough.
-Reiner being the one to encourage Connie, he's really come a long way. Poor Connie, though, he seems like he's in Reiner's prior state of eternally 5 min away from a total breakdown.
-Even Jean forgives Reiner now that they've all done awful things
-so Eren maybe is trying to get them to kill him, but more in a Reiner guilt/PTSD way than a mastermind way? That'd be way better! Though doesn't fully explain why he's still going through with everything, it doesn't seem like there's the same external pressure or past drive to keep him on course that Reiner had. Could be Zeke's influence, though.
-in the Nexus or whatever that place was called, shouting at the sky to try to apology/sympathy Eren into not genociding the world, there's something a little funny about it.
-running towards the child-Eren, Armin's trying to question him and get into his brain while Mikasa just desperately runs.
-he didn't take their Titan powers b/c he refuses to take away their freedom.
-he summoned them there to discuss the fact there's no point in discussion. If that's the case, why does he care enough to try and stop the discussion by discussing it? Either he's scared they'll convince him if they get long enough with him in person, or he needs them to kill him fast.
-Falco can fly now? Feels kind of a stretch. But it'll be hilarious if he suddenly comes in putt-putting like an airplane to save the day.
-Suddenly taking responsibility and renouncing all their hate now in a heart-felt speech? That is just not how it works. Given all the time they spent on the whole Eldian thing, I really wish they'd taken the time to actually get an understanding of how hate movements work and how they collapse and do something a little less 'third-grader's report on WWII' simplistic.
-a ghostly Zeke hanging from a rib-hook, still fighting by throwing those damn stupid baseballs.
-GO MIKASA! GO LEVI!
-"In what way are you free?" Forget the fighting, Armin's about to destroy Eren's shit with logic.

- Was getting my bearings again as I'd completely forgot most of the second-half plot. They were leaning pretty heavily onto "feel bad for the Marleyans!" for the first 10 minutes while they were getting violently stomped, but tbh I was just like "Nop, just stomp'em all."
- Awriiight, Armin gonna get a battle waifu (wasn't Armin dead or something? I really can't remember the plot.)
- Oh right, I forgot the new kids on the block were still hanging out
- Could never forget Pieck-chama
- Weren't we fixin to have an Annie/Mikasa fight at one point and now Annie won't fly around in her new jetpack
- Yeah, I'm with Annie, let'em stomp Marley and the rest of them into the ground first
