Re: Return of the Rants
GOD DAMNIT never mind I'm not enjoying February. Moped got stolen. Less than thirty days before I was gonna move back to the mainland.
Fuck, I loved that moped.
edit: gotta say the cops were really nice, though. Credit where it's due.

Re: Return of the Rants
On today's episode of "Fuck Robjection's Life", Robjection arrives in the car park that he parks in for work, spends an hour waiting/looking for a parking space to no avail, goes back home, calls his manager to tell her about his predicament and ask if he can work from home, gets the go-ahead to work from home, then gets a call from his boss 10 minutes later asking him to come into the office. The end result is that he starts work two hours late and doesn't even get to avoid having to pay for parking.

Re: Return of the Rants
@ everyone's transpo problems
Here is our wheelbarrow. My sister took a picture of it the other day because "Wow, look at how much snow is on it!"
The bit where the snow is hanging off of it, that's the level that the snow is at now, at just about 2 AM. It's still snowing. Probably take a picture of it in the morning.
I have now experienced for the first time in my life the classic winter problem of "... there's nowhere left to put the snow I'm shoveling from the driveway."
People live in BC so we don't have to do this

It's up to my kneecaps or over them, depending on the spot.

Re: Return of the Rants
Hey past-self: maybe it wasn't such a good idea to sign on for two comprehensive exams, three presentations at three different conferences, writing three book chapters, editing a volume, and moving 2,500 miles, all within a three-month span. Maybe that was a little stupid.

Re: Return of the Rants
I feel kind of bougie/self-indulgent complaining about the loss of a hundred dollars but here goes. . Only lost 'em in the first place 'cause I was willing to put aside twice that much for something frivolous, but happened to misplace my wallet at a critical moment. And it's not that long ago I not only wouldn't have dreamed of being in this position, but would've been utterly devastated by a loss of this magnitude. As it is, there's a question of when we'll recover, but not whether. It just really sucks.

Re: Return of the Rants
So, I took off for Women's Day and went to a local rally. Then I went home and went online, and felt guilty for doing that. I'm almost never able to go to any of the local protests/actions because they are during work hours, and I'm not allowed to yell at other people for being privileged to attend them. For this one, I had advanced notice, and few enough clients that my coworker was able to cover (she has to come in, since she gave her two weeks notice) - and none came in anyway. I'm not going around pissed off that other women couldn't take off because they have patients or don't get paid time off. So could other people stop bitching about what I chose to do? Yes, I'm privileged in a lot of ways. That is not the same as being rich. Having a job that allows personal or vacation days does not mean you are rich. I make probably $20,000 less than most teachers (and the person I saw call out women taking off as rich and privileged was a teacher) in my area (and I have a job that requires a masters degree). I can finally afford to fix my car because I got a tax return from my student loans. I'm not broke, but please for the love of pizza stop making assumptions about me everyone.

Learning to play the electric bass is a wonderful pursuit! I'm still very much learning to play an acoustic guitar myself! 8:00 at night is a perfectly fine time to practice your chords! 11:00 is getting a bit late! (And, sweet physics, aren't you getting tired by now? You kind of sound like you're getting tired, from the quality of the playing.)

I used to live in the apartment below this guy! He only played one song for those three hours, right?

Re: Return of the Rants
So the Bridge club I have been attending may no longer be having sessions on Fridays. Which is the only day of the week I could go. And the people there were so nice and it was such a convenient location too.

Re: Return of the Rants
I'm having a really bad night. I'm just so tired of being in pain, so tired of being completely alone, so tired of having nothing at all good in my life.

Are You Gonna Be My Girl...over and over and over.
I talked to Neighbor the second time it happened and asked that he move his practice sessions up an hour. He has, so it's all cool.

In more unfortunate news, The Cat Who Opens Doors achieved an important personal goal that he's worked hard toward this morning. He successfully opened the fridge. I'm not even sure how you childproof a fridge.

A scary fridge monster sounds like a great solution.
I wonder if I can save money with a DIY project. Take a packet of yogurt with an unexpectedly yucky flavor, leave opened in the back of the fridge, and wait for my own personal monster to grow?
