Re: Joys and Good News
It's 2pm and I've just been to a movie... The movie theatre is so close I can see it from my apartment, I left home when it was supposed to start (which means 15 minutes of commercials first), and didn't wear a jacket. Bought some groceries afterwards and strolled back home. It's such a luxury, to have things within line of sight distance
I liked the movie a lot too, Louder than Bombs, not very loud but very strong on storytelling (which is the only aspect of movies I'm really tuned in to).

I love that so many people seem to be getting to the spirit of Back to the Future this month: Pepsi Perfect, Jaws 19.
But I'm still waiting for my Mr. Fusion!

Re: Joys and Good News
Yes, Back to the Future I remember back in 1985, when I was six, and my mom told me about this very interesting-sounding movie about time-travel, and later, when I got to watch it, and even later than that, when I got it on VHS and watched it... daily, for a while, I think. And yeah, one thing is that it's now that year, 2015. Another is that 1985 is as weird and exotic from today's viewpoint as 1955 was back then. Only – it's a time I belong to. I'm accumulating a lot of past.
(More random thought than joy, maybe.)

I got to try the Backyard Brains Kit featured in this TED Talk today: https://www.ted.com/talks/greg_gage_how_to_control_someone_else_s_arm_with_your_brain?language=en
it was super weird and super existentially strange and also great.

Won a tour of the parliament by one of the Labour Party equivalent over here, and also a fair trade chocolate bar(the latter was given as tribute to a ravenous fresh board for the introductory week for internationals as a thank you for unlimited booze) by being a pessimist. The wrongness of the message this gives me makes it all the sweeter.

Re: Joys and Good News
It was plenty nice of my mom to take care of my cats (like really care for them, making sure they had cuddles and playtime and not just food and clean litter boxes) while I was out of town, and she mentioned she picked up eggs and milk so the kitchen wouldn't be empty when I came home. She apparently also picked up spinach, bananas, hummus, cheese, beer, and kleenex while she was doing it. There's also a mysterious candle in the bathroom, which has a strong scent of "your bathroom sort of smells like the litter box" about it, but the litter box plus bathroom configuration is a new one for me and she's probably right.

Re: Joys and Good News
I managed to leverage my procrastination this week by spending time doing an important task to avoid starting a Halloween costume that is looking like it will be a lot of work. Yay?

When you procrastinate so hard that you land up accomplishing things from it is always kind of nice, in a weird way! Â

I'm still a NEET, but I'm getting reactions on applications sent months ago for other functions they like to see me apply to!
It's a bit frustrating I'm so often just not good enough by a small margin, but it's nice to be good enough to get subsequent reactions on my applications.

Re: Joys and Good News
I rarely get cool fantasy dreams.
But as part of a dream last night, I actually got to shoot ice spells out of my hand, similar to what you'd see in an Elder Scrolls game. I was kinda like "Hrm.... wait a sec" and figured that the magic activated like a match, so all I'd do to shoot muh spells was snap my finger, aim it like a finger-gun and fire. Was so fucking fun

Post-mortem...
Soo went to Halloween party last night (yay), got drunk (double-yay), talked to this cutie dressed as Penny Lane for a good lot of the evening (Yay). Flirted, so to speak (yaay) and woulda made a move, turns out she had a boyfriend when I hinted at foolin' around (booo). But gave her a hug when she left and a peck on the cheek (whooo) as she left too.

My cousin finally got a foster child placed in her home! They're hoping she'll be available for adoption next year.

Nice Eselle!
I'm finally close to getting a job, after a year.
It's my dream job too (I might even get to visit NASA at one point in the future!).
Feels truly unreal.

Re: Joys and Good News
Was over at a friend's house for board game night and their cat, who is usually kind of shy around anyone other than her owners, jumped into my lap and stayed there for a good several minutes being quite affectionate. I love cats but don't have my own because I still live with my parents and they don't want pets (and I haven't decided if I actually want to get one whenever I move out), so my only chances to interact with them occur when I visit other cat owners. But it's pretty rare for cats to be affectionate toward relative strangers, so when it actually happens, it makes my day.

Re: Joys and Good News
The NaNo-thing seems to work for me again this year, after the frustrations and eventual dropping out from it last year... Almost reached today's word count after two sessions, and have a narrator's that makes a lot of its own language.
Re: Joys and Good News
I made an appointment with a counselor for this tuesday, encouraged by my friend who is going to the same location (it's an off-campus spot).
I gave him a ride there, and sitting out in the car I started having a bad thought spiral via texting with my mom.
I was like "InkAndComb, you are *literally* right outside of a therapist's office. What do you have to lose?"
So I went in, got the papers I needed to fill out, went to talk to a secretary, and they booked me a session immedietly.
I'm so nervous, but also very proud; I've been struggling to meet with someone who is a professional and also not through student health.
It's a real relief, a real weight off my chest.

Re: Joys and Good News
So as long as I'm on indefinite government allowance for people in reeducation/rehabilitation/evaluation/we're not sure what to do with you, I get postponement on paying back my student loan, as long as I fill in some simple online forms regularly, only I've misunderstood some stuff and found out I'd have to fill in some other form to retain that right, and that form has an eighth week processing time. So I called and asked a human for help. And it turned out fixing the problem was a lot easier than describing it.
I've also had the joy of being benevolently fangirled on for something I actually like to take credit for... I mentioned in conversation an rpg I've coauthored, and she said, wow, are you the one who made that, and claimed to be a little starstruck. Back in my feelgood reality TV star-days, I received a lot of starstruckness, a lot of it benevolent, and pleasing enough, but being in that show didn't exactly feel like an accomplishment. I didn't create it, I didn't even make an effort to perform there (except for the encounter-suit eccentricity I always perform). When it's for something I've written with my own hands, though... that feels kind of good.

I'm really glad we have the kind of friendship where we can just for no reason whatsoever spend two hours talking about new roommates and old vacations and cool recipes and WoW updates and definitely not about how scary and awful the world is.
