Re: Berserk
Vol 36/316-324
- Spoiler:
- "Guts has gone berserk" That's a shark-jumping line if I've ever seen one
- Eyyyy Demon Fetus here to calm him down
- "Nudity's best for your health" Puck
- Scherike Backpack Mode
- Awriiight, we goin Super Mario into the giant sea god's mouth
- It's so big that it's heartbeat pulse sounds like a cannon
- The art when the ship starts firing on the slugs
- Sea God Squid Monsters burp too
- "Wind-Charm Guy"
- "Our Buckethead"
- The Pulse of the Sea God will drive you crazy
- The Sea God IS the island?
- Spoke her true name, went Mermaid
- "FISH!!"
- The crew is so non-chalant about Isma turning into a mermaid because they've seen too much bullshit already
- If someone knows your true name, they'll have control over you. Like... say... for instance... Femto?
- Puck has never heard of this true-name stuff
- "Justin Bailey" Holy shit, that's the Metroid code to play the original Metroid as Samus in her leotards/without her armor
- This arc is strange. It's really fun the same way a Pirates of the Caribbean movie would be, but this is also rape-murder-demons Berserk, Fantasia's almost changed it to the fantastical.
- And maybe the whole point of this is that Falconia/Fantasia is just a falsehood and Griffith's dream kingdom was never real. Griffith represents a dream world where everything works out and everything's wonderful and Guts is about recognizing and facing stone-cold reality.

Re: Berserk
Vol 36/318-324
- Spoiler:
-Schierke has to specify "no graffiti" when she goes into spirit mode
-what the fuck is Casca doing?!? ohhh, the kid...
-Farnese being grossed out by a tiny splatter of blood
-The gang as shadowy figures in Guts' berserk-vision
-the crackles of light going through the armour as the bright spirit calls him to look at Casca
-the way he's trying to pry the armour off, his face straining to separate from it and it snapping shut around him again
-Schierke tackling him and dragging the helmet open
-Gut's cool wink like he's a teen magazine hearthrob, I spend like five minutes trying to figure out what smiley was the right reaction to that and I still couldn't decide
-Isidoro dying inside from the fact that Schierke's the one who impressed Isma, not him
-I want to know what's up with probably-demon-fetus child, but I'm worried it's going to all be dumb
-Isma joins the team (I totally thought she was going to be the sea god. But maybe she still could be?), I don't think she'll last past this arc, but if she does and the kid sticks around too, this team is getting huuuuge!
-OMG, Farnese is casting her first spell, she's all grown up
-that one random sailor trying to charge people money to watch the spell
-"I feel how small a thing I am. I feel how enormous the thing is of which I'm a part."
-Serpico's non-expression expression when he congratulates Farnese kind of looks peaceful and happy. And then a little sad, too, when Guts says she's their shield.
-the pirate's crew behind his back talking about feeling sorry for him and making hanged-man faces
-Big, lots and lots of teeth, wavy tentacles. Meh. Sea god is not one of Miura's better designs.
-the ship graveyard inside the monster is pretty cool, though.
-floating in stomach acid and fighting intestinal parasites, what are you dooooing, Miura
-"What do you dogs know about a tentacle's feelings?!" "CAN IT, YOU SLIMY CREEP!!"
-everyone's doing great in the pirate ship battle, even the new girl's throwing molotov cocktails
-"T-t-t-t-t-" "Tits, whatever, they're no big deal" "No, not tits! Tail!"
-and then she's freaking out and trying to roll away from her own tail
-"CALM DOWN! ...wow, you're calm already," this whole arc is so hilarious
-oh god, Guts' eyes are bleeding

- Spoiler:
Oh, iiiiinteresting idea. But since Guts' ability to fight in the realm of fantasy is partly based on being outside the normal reality anymore, and he's increasingly joined up with fantastical elements, it's hard to see him as representing stone-cold reality. Unless it's about getting caught up in the dream world (albeit a dream world with an ugly side for him), and having to fight through that back to reality in spite of the fact that the fantasy dream kingdom does have things that are true and good, like Schierke's magic. Almost like the way in Paranoia Agent, the younger detective gained some kind of understanding and ability to fight the fantasy world by partially losing himself into it. That could be a totally different kind of tragedy from what I was expecting of Berserk

Re: Berserk
- Spoiler:
Guts is stone-cold reality because every time someone comes to him for help or to be rescued, he always makes a point of telling them to save themselves, because he's not going to be around to save them for the rest of their lives. He usually does end up saving them from the big bad anyways, but in a sobering way, like "I might've gotten you this time, but it might still get you later."

- Spoiler:
- Yeah, that's true. But at the same time, if the reason he can save them even that one time is partly because he's existing partially within the world of fantasy, and many of the other people who've gotten the "save yourself" message and actually seem to have gone on to do something with it, like the girl in the fairies bit (Jill?) or Farnese, have only become able to start trying to get to the point where they can save themselves after being exposed to the fantastical world and seeing how Guts manages to exist within it and still fight it. And the person other than Guts we've seen with the most autonomy and ability to save herself is Schierke, who has embraced the world of fantasy while still knowing it's not just a happy dreamland.
So I'd see him almost as more of a middle ground - if you want to be able to save yourself from the horrors of the dream world and keep walking forward in reality, you might have to step into the dream world and fight them on their own ground, and some part of you may never fully come back again. If you don't want to get swept away by unrealilty, you have to step right into its the stream and find stepping stones of reality to stand on within it, it's not good enough to just wait on the bank and try to keep your feet dry, if you do you'll get swept away when the flood comes, but if you enter the water and slip and lose the stepping stones, you'll get swept away anyway. Reality's something you can barely hold onto, but you have to risk your grip to be able to contend with the dream world at all.

We'll be caught up by like February
- Spoiler:
- Guts can't see or hear anything, because of the heart-beat
- I think Miura just wanted to draw a lot of boobs
- Guts drowning in monster blood seems apropos in a way
- Roderick's pretty bro for volunteering to go into the dead Sea God's body. He's adjusted pretty amazingly to all this supernatural bullshit all things considered
- Guts getting raised to surface by naked mermaid waifus is hilarious to me for some reason
- The Berserker Armor is starting to take Guts sight
- Guts thinking about Casca as she used to be
- And then the Black Dog makes sure he doesn't forget about the Advent
- Ahhh, back to Berserkian awfulness, Martino uses teen-Guts as a decoy
- Gambino congratulating Guts on being a good decoy
- And he's actually giving him good advice
- "Don't even trust your father out here."
- An Elf with his flower
- G-Guts and Chitch ;_;
- Fucking stuck his sword-hilt in the guys eye
- Eyyyy Martino
- Chitch
- Eyyyy, Rickert and Erica on the move

Re: Berserk
Vol 37/325-333
Doesn't he always?
- Spoiler:
-that cover image, Guts is so young and cute!
-the overpowering noise blinding and deafening to the point where it's impossible to tell where anything is
-the feeling of helplessness of that wide eye in the dark
-that scene of Guts talking to the black dog, "Get up and pierce some flesh and bone. Let me feel the pain."
-drowning in blood inside a sea god corpse would be a pretty crappy way to die, if sort of consistent with his life
-the kid guiding him again ...if this kid was the demon fetus, it makes sense he'd try to watch out for Casca, but why Guts? The demon fetus only helped Casca. Maybe he's something else altogether? Or he's taken on some of Casca's own spirit and her lost feelings about Guts?
-Guts following the kid-spirit, the pages of small, broken-up panels like this are some of the best ones, they're always so expressive
-"Ah yes, this is how the world is." I love these little moments of Farnese developing her magical vision of the world, getting to see things like it's the first time instead of Schierke's view where it's much more developed and natural
-"right now my warmth is flowing into and around within you"
-Farnese's moment of jealousy that Casca's the one Guts is always concerned with, but then kind of turning it back on Guts by making it her and Casca on the same side and he's the one who's left outside. But she feels bad about using that against him too.
-Oh, Schierke thinks the kid is part of the elf king? That'd be kind of random. I guess it'd mean that the elves are like Skull Knight, seeing something important in Guts and Casca's fate that they need to nudge along in some direction?
-losing light from the armour, starting to be scared about what getting back her sanity would mean for Casca
-branches on the moon, the kid becoming a shooting star...?
-Planting that first thought about a comrade worth putting yourself on the line for, a white hawk sailing in the dark
-and he was just using him for his own chance to escape
-Gambino using him as decoy! GOD, I want to punch that dude! But at least his advice not to trust him is good
-seeing spirits even back then. We got introduced gradually from the start to the demons and all the worst things of the supernatural, and then slowly, almost grudgingly revealing that there were wonderful things all along too
-he thinks it's a hallucination of his own weakness, but still promises to take it to a place with more flowers, my heart And then the flower wilts from helping him and the spirit's gone, but he picks it to try and fulfill his promise before it's too late, fuck you you heartbreaking metaphor
-jamming the sword into the glove, poking his eye out with the back, and taking him hostage, go Guts!!
-that image of him standing in the spring field, and he'll never know if the flower spirit survived or not, or even if it was real
-Rickert and Erica fighting off trolls with blacksmithing genius
-"He was different, somehow, from the Griffith we knew. And yet, he seemed more Griffith."
-Rickert has something he wants to protect ;') Except, what if joining Griffith's the best way to protect her. Don't do it, Rickert!!!
-The changed world and those wing stones, Falconia is an evergreen paradise where humans can live as humans

- Spoiler:
- Good fucking god, the art on the gates to Falconia, what the fuck
- Eyyyyy Luca
- Guts is gonna end up killing a shit-ton of people while looking like a demon when he does it to take Falconia down
- D'awwww, Erica gets tricked and hypnotized into helping out the bearded old man (wasn't that one of the Kushan sorcerors that Guts and co fought?)
- Dohohooooo, Erica saying things that Luca's recognizing, they both know Guts. I guess the old man wasn't one of the bad guys
- Kaiju fights in Pandemonium
- HOLY SHIT RICKERT SLAPPED GRIFFITH
- The Falcon of Light is not his commander ;_;
- Rickert's got bitches after him, Erica's getting in the way dohohohooooo
- Eyyyyy Silat, thanks for the save
- The big muscle think Erica is call the other guy an orc
- Flamethrower
- Puts his fire out by dousing himself in the blood of a horse he tears apart
- Nah let's not kill Erica please
- Oh hey, Beardy was one of the Kushan generals
- Bazooka'd
- "A young man sets out on a journey across the vast seas of life, the prologue of Berserk" God dammit, Puck
- They all know Puck's gonna try to overthrow the Elf king and their only response is "This is gonna be painful."
- Aren't those guardian golems?
- Aha, island silliness ensues

Re: Berserk
Vol 38/334-342
- Spoiler:
-Now that I think of it, it's kind of weird that Puck has a child-like body, but Ivalera doesn't, even though it doesn't seem like Puck is supposed to be a kid. Also, Ivalera doesn't really have enough of a purpose or role to justify her as a character.
-the character summary at the beginning gives Rickert Roderick's summary, so I guess the kid abandoned Erica to marry Farnese
-Holy fuck, those images of the city, and then followed by multiple panels of detailed crowd scenes, and I just realized how blase I am about this extreme level of detail (or often even more) on almost every page, how does each chapter not take a decade?
-the legendary city asleep under the capital has woken up, maybe we're going to get more of the backstory of that
-LUCA!
-Goddamn, this page
-calling the Eclipse massacre the Ceremony of Abstract Time makes me so mad
-Erica being magically controlled into helping the old guy when she was clearly 100% happy to help anyway
-Luca realizing the Guts connection
-That face
-GO RICKERT SLAP THAT MOTHERFUCKER!!!
-"I'm Rickert, member of the Band of the Hawk, led by Griffith the White Hawk. My leader..." And you think he's going to join him and then he finishes with "...isn't the Hawk of Light." I nearly literally shouted "YES!!!" out loud at that, I'm so relieved, even after he slapped him, I wasn't sure he wasn't going to immediately get won over.
-Erica getting scary with Luca's girls for hitting on Rickert, and then they learn he slapped Griffith and are like "....nevermind."
-Rickert planning to leave the city and Erica insists on coming with b/c they're family
-Griffith or Locus ordering Rickert's murder, and Silat finally gets involved and teams up with the good guys
-"I'm fine, I have those stuffed in here."
-"Mood's ruined. I'm leaving."
-All Rickert's memories of the old Hawks all over the place are killing me
-Rickert taking on mask-demon with all his gadgets
-Sorry, Mask-demon, no one gets to kill Griffith but Guts! Or maybe Casca.
-Cool shot of Raksas, I love when the art does that dry-brush style
-And Ganishka's ex-general/Dr. Doolittle joins the B team!
-That image of Griffith looking at them flying off through the World Tree branches against the moon, and Rickert looking back
-They actually made it to Elf Island? Bet it's going to be destroyed when they get there, or will be soon.
-Guts thanking everyone, and there's something about the way those panels are drawn that looks so affectionate and happy
-Back to Puck and Isidoro silliness
It feels like a lot of pieces we'd been watching get set up for a long time are finally starting to fit together

- Monster pumpkins
- Isma picking up a monster pumpkin and using it to smash another monster pumpkin
- Wicker Man, what the fuck, I thought we were done with horror-shows for awhile
- Puck gets recognized
- A small storm will take many lives and return as a typhoon. Guts gon' go crazy after this
- This old man on the goat has one eye closed, don't trust him, guys
- The tree scaring the shit out of them
- "Pound him according to rhythm." The Engrish translating is getting kind bad in this chapter, but that one lol'ed me
- WITCHY TREATS
- Ooooo, Yggdrasil binds together all the different planes of existence, Griffith is going for the whole shebang
- Behelits open a dragon's road to the abyss, that must mean there's other ways to open other roads
- Spiritual mistletoe
- Isidoro asking Guts if he knew his idol, the Hundred Man Slayer
- More Pucks!
- The plan to overthrow the kingdom immediately fails, see you in Valhalla, holy shit
- We're seeing so much Disney magic that I'm just waiting for something to show up and try to slaughter and massacre everything
- AHA, I was wondering why some of the elders were wrinkly old dudes and the only one who wasn't was a younger woman. Elf Queen
- The Puck Family getting their SERIOUS on
- She tells Puck he has to do work if he's the King, he immediately switches to ALL HAIL ELFHELM
- "It would be a pigsty" and smary-ass Puck with a "She's right, you know" look on his face, holy shit
- Uh oh, Farnese and Schierke are gonna enter Casca's dreams. Guts never told them about the Advent
- Also it's all of Guts fangirls in one place, this may turn ugly
- Isidoro drinking Schierke's cartoony dream honey, OH MY
- Oh fucking god, the Eclipse at the end of Chapter 347
- An impaled hound draggin a casket, Guts and Griffith?
- Nope, a smashed apart puppet Casca
- Witches brewing a "bath" for Isma so they can Merrow scales and extract from her
- "When I meet my end, I want to drown in the sea, in wine or in women." I've been waiting for Roderick to betray them somehow and he keeps being more of a bro instead
- A campfire. Kill me
- The campfire of dreams
- Don't look Schierke, not even for scholarly reference
- There's someone little Casca wants to see

Re: Berserk
Yeppppp, I'm not stopping there (you'll see why), might as well fully catch up with the last volume and the last two chapters.
Vol 40/351-357
Chapter 358
359
So are we on hiatus again?
Vol 40/351-357
- Spoiler:
- Guts the dog protecting Farnese
- Little Casca wants to ride it out
- Penis monsters
- This is goofy and HORRIFYING at the same time
- Mozgus using the power of God to destroy Penis Monsters, very fitting
- Now the Hawk should be able to kill everything easily
- Farnese brought Berserker Armor Gut's laundry with her
- YEAH, KILL'EM ALL, GUTS
- Flora, fuck ;_;
- "We could always meet in dreams"
- The Demon Abortion
- Farnese is doing for Casca what Guts did for her
- Little Casca waving at Farnese as she goes back through the puppet door over her brand
- She thanked them for taking care of her ;__________;
- She doesn't remember the Advent
- "Do you remember Guts" and her eyes start welling up
- Casca was only looking up from the surface of the ocean floor
- And just as she sees Guts, and imagines him as he used to be, all the bad memories start coming back
- Meanwhile, Griffith is fighting norse giants who use skinned people as flags
- They found stonehenge
- They galloped across the heavens and used the World Tree's Branches to return to Falconia
Chapter 358
- Spoiler:
- Griffith has an endless battle with fantasy creatures and a Kingdom that only holds together if they see him perform his ceremony. It's basically a child's fantasy. He's the super-cool King that everybody loves and needs and there's all sorts of dragons to slay
- And now he's instilling a modern school system
- And the draft. Griffith is becoming America
- And he's solving all of Donald Trump's problems quickly and easily

Re: Berserk
Vol 39/343-350
AUGHHHH!
- Spoiler:
-feels kind of silly fighting magic scarecrows and pumpkins after all the Griffith stuff, it's like the main characters are in the comic relief b-plot
-okay, that Wicker Man's kind of creepy, though
-"What would ya call this? Art?" And then off-scene the tree's licking him
-Both the distance view and closer up of Elfhelm looks really nice, the soft, fluttery-blossom feel and the luminousity and the quaint little houses
-Isidoro being thrilled that they're scared of him And then they immediately tie him up and hit him with sticks
-the spirit trees acting as parasites draining the World Tree's power so it can't expand into the physical world
-Griffith as the "guardian angel of longing," the root of his tree is the eye of the storm, the one peaceful place within it
-Isidoro almost figuring it out but then asking Guts to introduce him to the hundred-man killer
-The beings of the forest
-oh god they're all like Puck! (SERIOUS!)
-Manihico and Puck's attempt to take the throne
-I thought the "housekeeper" thing was suspicious! But it's a bit of a cheat that they said "king" before now and then switch
-Guts can't even be one of the people close to Casca for the ritual, somehow it's the smallness of the reaction that makes it heartbreaking
-dream's rules come from the mind of the dreamer, they have to figure out the rules
-"What's up with the honey?" that Monkey-Isidoro's wrapped around, Farnese washing Guts' helmet while it bites down on Mozgus's head and he shouts "OH LORD!" These dreams are super-sexual, it's not just me, right?
-Casca's surface-most dreams as clumsy scribble-people
-The cherry blossoms across the darkened sky of the eclipse, GOD
-the chained dog, missing a leg, pierced through with blackened stakes, dragging a coffin with its chains, the dream-like sense of dread in knowing exactly where this symbolism is going and not wanting to follow it, but you have to
-and Casca a broken doll, with a tiny little speck of a Casca inside
-The love on Farnese's face when she holds out her hand for the little Casca, the degree to which I care about Farnese's story bound into Casca's surprises me, she's made so much of her redemption around caring for Casca, what's she going to do if Casca's restored?
-Serpico telling Guts he's okay with things, and trust in Farnese's bond with Casca Kind of annoyed me that those two are talking it out for once and Rodrigo's hanging around too like he's part of it, he hasn't been around long enough to earn it.
-THE CAMPFIRE
-YOUNG GUTS
-AND THE DOG PUTS A LITTLE PIECE OF CASCA BACK INTO THE DOLL
-HER SWORD FIGHTING GUTS WHEN THEY MET AAUUGHH ALL OF THIS
-little Casca-speck is hostile and scared of Guts-dog, but this is all her dream, some self of hers has Guts-dog helping put her together again
-when they get to the memory of Griffith giving her the sword, now there's spiders in the landscape
-White Phoenix Knights?!
-"but...for scholarly reference..."
-"There's someone I want to see" oh no, what if it's not Guts
AUGHHHH!

Re: Berserk
Yeah, I definitely can't leave it there, here we go!
Vol 40/351-357
Vol 40/351-357
- Spoiler:
-the corpse-forest in the mist, the art is gorgeous
-oh god, are those penis-monsters
-Mozgus comes to save them from the penis-monsters, this is so Freudian (it's kind of cool that Mozgus' role in Farnese's mind is still a protective one, though, I guess the power of the church makes sense to stamp out penis-monsters )
-Aww, Farnese brought Serpico with her too
-that first panel
-even Serpico's dream-representative cloak has his snark
-Farnese brings out the Berserker armour, these two pages are fantastic
-Berserker-dog Guts broke through the bird to show Griffith's eye
-Flora comes to protect them too
-Demon-fetus is the last fragment
-Judeau in the vortex
-Femto-hawk going for the heart
-Farnese's little Farnese-speck in the tower as she uses her own strength to chase Casca's darkness as Guts did for her
-Guts-dog howling as the cherry blossoms fly up in a column of light
-CASCAAAAAAAA! I'm not even ready for this
-She has her fierceness, she's like herself!
-oh no, she still has to remember the Eclipse
-HER FACE WHEN THEY ASK IF SHE REMEMBERS GUTS! My feelings were 100% not ready for this
-"Friends close, enemies closer" at being made to wear that dress, it's really Casca
-Her memories
-AAAAAAAAAAAAAA *gasp* AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
-Oh NO, the reflection in her eyes, the eclipse, noooo
-NO, Don't cut away NOW!!!!
-"we are now racing through the branches of the world tree" was gorgeous even though I'm still pissed at having to sit through this before we get back to Casca

Re: Berserk
A different kind of horrible thought occurred to me:
Ch 358
359
Man, I can't believe we have to wait now! Hope he's working on it!
- Spoiler:
- What if she can't stay with Guts, if she can't separate him from her memories even after a long time, and they have to give up on each other and go on their own way?
Ch 358
- Spoiler:
-keeping people in check from different religions jostling together using Griffith doing the Rite of Departing Souls
-(but go back to Casca, damn you!)
-making ALL children wards of the state, this is getting extra-indoctrinationalicious
-though, it sounds like it just means normal schooling, not completely taking them from their parents
-(back to Casca)
-Making refugees join the army
-(CASCA!)
-Following in Emperor Skull-knight's footsteps
-(okay, that caught my interest. But still, CASCAAA!)
-"we are all drunk on the illusion that man so skillfully weaves"
-Griffith's expression sitting at the window naked, with Charlotte still on the bed
-"This night will be..." ????
-(BUT GO BACK TO CASCA!)
359
- Spoiler:
-Wait, what's this "original story and production by Miura" new work?? Why is he spending time on that instead of Berserk???
-CASCA! YAY! but what happened with Guts?
-getting her hair cut, getting a sword, now she looks like herself
-Puck referencing how long this series has been going on
-Farnese getting teary when Casca thanks her
-omg, getting to see her fighting, totally like herself, we've been waiting for this so long I don't even know how to react
-Aww, Isidoro practicing with her
-Guts just waiting outside understandingly
-Farnese getting her to go to him
-AAA, Casca talking to Guts but still standing at other sides of the tree
-Oh no, offhandedly comparing Isidoro to Judeau, and she's back in it
-GUTS' FACE when she panics as soon as he moves towards her
-Skull Knight watching
Man, I can't believe we have to wait now! Hope he's working on it!

Sir Roderick does feel like he's barely been around, but because of how slow the series production has been, he's been around in real time for like 9 or 10 years when that chapter was released I think

- That would be devastating (and be a very disturbing implication), but I don't think it would really work to me, I read it as once they've gotten her back from within her mind, that's the beyond-human part of the work, and anything beyond this would be human, step-by-step-along-the-ground recovery. It'd feel a little cheap to me if something superhuman can just fix all of it.
And before this point, I wasn't sure if Miura was still really thinking about Casca as a character with her own story still so much as just an emotional pull to use as needed, but the way he's done the coming back to herself part, I do feel like he does still have plans for her as a character of her own, and if Griffith can just fix it, it'd be like if Guts only let Griffith into his heart, all that rage and trauma and desperate obsessive search for revenge melts away and he's happy again, it'd be a crap way to tell her story, and there's other ways to accomplish the same level and type of emotionally devastating choice with Casca as the lynchpin for Guts' torment in the same way, without having to be like "poof, goodbye trauma."
Back to the general topic, I'm kind of having a hard time seeing how they can go carry on the journey with Casca, though, unless Miura's only planning on torturing us with the delayed reconcilation between her and Guts a little while, which doesn't sound like him . So I'm scared they're either going to leave her here, or she'll go on her own way without him, or she'll recover quickly, they'll carry on together, and fast-track pretty quickly to her dying or him having to choose to save her/be happy with her or get Griffith. And the fact that they're advertising a new Miura project makes me suspect there isn't that long to go.

Re: Berserk
re: The new project, Miura said he's just storyboarding/writing it, not drawing it himself, and he specifically had to come out and say it because people were like "OH GOD, WE'RE NEVER GETTING THE END OF BERSERK ARE WE."
Apparently the reason for why it's been so slow going is that he switched from part physical/part digital to fully digital a few year ago so he had to re-learn a lot more things, and he gets lost in the weeds inking things down to the pixel level because he's way too details obsessed.

Re: Berserk
That's a relief! Still, storyboarding can be time-consuming! And wow, yeah, for someone as detailed as that, digital would be insane, someday we're probably just going to get releases of a single panel at a time, with ten million demons too tiny to see with the naked eye. I'm impressed at how well he does a hand-drawn-looking style in the digital, a lot of people don't pull it off like that.

Re: Berserk
360
- Spoiler:
- Casca seems to realize what happened to her but can't handle it, and maybe magic-drugging her every time it pops up isn't a great way to fix it
- And she still reaches for Farnese despite being Battle Casca again
- Farnese and Schierke are full metal alchemists, no circles needed B)
- Hanging out with Guts sent so much ridiculous bullshit at Schierke that she had to combat evolve
- D'aww, the shadow spirit was envious and wanted to play too
- Demons, ex-humans and sorcerers who moved to a "deeper" realm
- Skull Knight showing up to tell us that the final arc's a go

Re: Berserk
Ch 360
- Spoiler:
-Farnese treats Casca with so much caution and formality now, but you can see how much she still wants to help and protect her but just doesn't know how or if it's allowed with this new Casca. And then Casca still reaches out to her for comfort, aaa! I really like how they're handling Farnese here and digging into how important their relationship has been to Farnese's transformation, and how it shows how much she's changed - she's completely committed to helping Casca get through this and back to her old strong self even though that version of her is a stranger and Farnese might lose the purpose that's driven her transformation if Casca doesn't need her anymore. This is one of those things I feel like a lesser-written version of Berserk could have forgotten about to focus solely on the Casca-Guts situation; it's really become the story of the whole group as deep, complex characters rather than just having them as tag-alongs whose world revolves around Guts.
-"It is your array of the four cardinal points that has protected everyone"
-and then Serpico's reaction to Farnese proving her magic kind of echoing Farnese's uncertainty, with the person they've devoted themselves to both suddenly becoming more powerful and independent and where does that leave them
-having to keep up with Guts made them extra-badass
-Schierke getting to link with daemons of a deeper realm and possibly Flora will be one of them
-Guts just practicing his sword and wondering what the fuck he's supposed to do now, and Skull Knight shows up for a heart to heart. Oh no, Skull Knight probably means we're about to set off, what's going to happen with Casca, is he going to have to leave without her?

Re: Berserk
Was sitting here vibing out to Waiting So Long as one does when they want to feel bad by remembering the end of the Advent but
- Spoiler:
It's occurred to me (probably again because I feel like some or all of this has been said already) that the core of Berserk atm seems to be that the big three all can't face reality. Guts can't get "his" Casca back, Griffith can't face the reality that his ambitions were designed to fail and at the end of it all he's still gonna be a crashed-to-Earth failure, Casca fled from reality and can't get the Guts and Griffith of her Golden Age back the way things were

Re: Berserk
- Spoiler:
- Interesting. In that case, the fact that Casca came out of her hideaway and is trying to figure out how to deal with the way things are now seems like it'd be a hopeful sign on that front, she can't fully face it yet, but she's actively trying rather than escaping, and the signs are pointing to things getting better. Not that they can get everything they wanted, but like there's some way of moving forward instead of stuck forever failing to reach something unreachable, even if it's something devastating like Casca and Guts having to go their separate ways or Guts having to give up on killing Griffith or something like that. Which I guess would come out to about the same as that "slowly crawling forward on the ground but maybe you can at least look at the sky" thing that I thought seemed like a hint of what a future could be like.
Also, the thing that Guts can't really face is the fact that he has to pick between Casca/happiness/connection and Griffith/hatred/needed revenge/a face that desperately needs a stabbing; it's been a nagging question the whole time that he's mostly managed to avoid by having help now and by not being able to straight-up go off and fight Griffith, and he knows it's a problem, but he never has fully decided what he'd do if he had to pick, and I think he's been mentally putting it off by hoping that once Casca's okay everything will be fine, he can defeat Griffith and then they can have a happily-ever-fighting-after together. But we've seen repeatedly that there's a point where the power to fight becomes oppositional to the ability to love and be together with others, and even if you need that power to protect the people you love it might not let you keep loving them. So I think that's going to be the big thing.

Re: Berserk
361
- Spoiler:
- "Oh, it's you." Like a Skeleton Monster randomly showing up is so normal that Guts barely blinks at it anymore
- Don't get cocky kid, causality hasn't made its move yet
- "Your majesty." Skull Knight's definitely the OG Griffith of the light-side Godhands
- Ohoooo, summon a Dwarf Spirit to fix up the old blood-drinking psycho-violent armour
- They're teaching Schierke to ride a broom
- Oh dear, Morda the delinquent has a master who lives among the outcasts and that's where Guts and co are going right now, this won't end well
- And actual old-crone Witch
- She looks like a sinister evil Witch but just wants to curse Morda with a tail for being a shitty disciple
- A forest made of stone, I can literally hear the Behelit Theme in my head https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wEvtnqh5OsE&list=PL9146BDACDA5C450A&index=1

Re: Berserk
Finally got to this!
361
A thought I had unrelated to this chapter, about a few chapters ago:
361
- Spoiler:
-Guts looks really young and uncertain in that first page but he's so blasé
-"your Majesty"
-the armorer of his and Skull Knight's armour both
-sexy witch girl hitting on Schierke
-NOPE NOPE NOPE
-"so let's feel something, and lots of it "
-The sunlight streaming through the tree branches in that second panel from the bottom is gorgeous
-a place for those who can't adapt to the queen's light and bloom
-the Wicker Men were sacrificed enemy soldiers, I should have known that even the trivial- and lighthearted-seeming fight when they came to the happy magical island would have some kind of horrifying element, this is Berserk, after all
-"you want to be carried away by your own overflowing power"
-I like that they just have a bunch of dark witches just hanging out in a different part of the island doing their own thing, it's not like using curse magic means they're the enemy and must be crushed, even the flowery happy side of the magic world coexists with the dark side. Miura's done a really good job of interweaving the more positive side in with the darker stuff that dominated our view of the supernatural so it doesn't feel fake and insipid for coming in so much later in the story; earlier on, I really wouldn't have expected it to become so well integrated
-otoh, for how evil and creepy her magic sounded, all she wants to do with it is curse her disciple with a pig's tail
-A prediction involving Schierke and Skull Knight?
-The old blackmith that raised Erica whose name I'm blanking on looked like this guy, I guess he had dwarf blood
-blacksmith clangs the armour and it immediately comes alive and tries to eat Guts, for some reason this made me lol even though Guts is probably going to go berserker and slaughter them all in the next chapter
A thought I had unrelated to this chapter, about a few chapters ago:
- Spoiler:
Guts' form being a black dog in Casca's mindscape, but an entirely protective figure, when the black dog's meaning elsewhere is berserker rage and destruction - it's like her subconscious has figured out to do what his real-life self hasn't yet, taking his darkest self and reforging it into something that isn't in opposition to everything steadfast and kind in him. Maybe a symbolic signpost of what things could be, more than simply defeating the berserker dog so it has no hold on him anymore. It would fit with the other stuff we're seeing about people having to find ways to coexist with the darkness in the world, too.
