I have received four truly excellent compliments in the last few weeks that have really buoyed me up and provided confidence in some stressful moments. PSA: whenever you have the chance, give honest compliments to the people around you. Let them know they did a good job or that they have a nice trait. It's so easy to do, and it can mean so much to the person hearing it.

I saw it on one of the Type 1 pages I follow. Because that young woman? Is wearing an insulin pump on her pants' waistband and a continuous glucose monitor (CGM) on her upper arm.

The idea Representation Matters is something that I understand intellectually. But it's not something I actually got on a gut level until I saw this photo and I felt a warm glow and a shock of recognition and thrill. That is a Type 1 diabetic woman. She wears her medical devices where I wear mine. She has a baby. She is a mom. That is me!

Good chemistry and convo, she liked the dancing, second date in planning. I also think we got a few drinks for free because the bar staff fudged up the bill and waved it off even when I pointed it out. Score!

May present essay for contest on future of EU at Foreign Affairs next month for the final round. Probably another small participant pool victory going by the effort that went into it, but hey, free lunch.

Edit: and free tickets to a cabaret festival in Rotterdam, once again due to a low pool of participants in a contest. At this point I need to add blessed hashtags or something.

Bill to ban the sale of ivory passed the Hawaii state house today. Went to support it, got to meet and see and talk to the ivory dealers fighting it. It's always weirdly gratifying when your faceless opponents turn out to be exactly as cartoonishly evil as you never dared expect them to be. One of them, I am not kidding, told me that selling ivory is actually a great thing, because--"check out Revelations 18!"--it will hasten the Second Coming.

Am now a Youth Ambassador Against Extreme Poverty. Theme this year is disease and malnutrition, let's see how good I am at cannibalizing EA arguments.

Watching a trickle of water spread slowly along a crack in the sidewalk, the way it gets blocked by a little pebble and then slowly, slooowwwwwlly builds up enough water to wash the pebble away and trickle onwards, there's something so weirdly satisfying about it.

The charity consultancy thingie I finished today is apparently a hack which earns outrageous dosh for a good cause for the amount of time/effort put into it, and works better than normie-tier consultancy firms according to the dude who hired us as volunteers. This will be a yearly thing from now on for me, even though I'm a bit skepticial about the Serious Request charities being as effective as they should be (it's a portofolio, so I can just pretend the earnings went to the ones that were verified as effective). Encouraging everyone able-thru-privilege to look into similar gigs in their area, because it also nicks money that would otherwise go to suits.
