Re: Joys and Good News
I got the opportunity to help someone in a way that was within my boundaries and abilities, and it felt great.

Putting on music and singing at the top of your lungs is one of the best things in the world.

Naps on the beach are right up there with singing at the top of your lungs. Snugglin' into that warm afternoon sand.

Re: Joys and Good News
I'm going on vacation for the first time in years! I'm gonna visit a good friend and her family, 400 miles south. Two weeks of rest, being spoiled rotten with good food and no housework, playing with their adorable kid and taking walks with their cute dog. And hopefully the weather will be warmer there, and I will be in a little less pain.
I'm gonna miss my computer and the DNL community, but when I come home in the middle of May, I will hopefully be a happy, well-rested hedgehog.

I bought a loaf of bread at the farmer's market. All six (6!) ingredients are words that I know without having to look them up in the dictionary, and it tastes amazing too

I'm not sure how things will turn out, but for now it's good news: I got an appointment with a gender therapist. I'm a bit nervous about it though!

Awesome that you're going for it, mayhaps this angle can defuse some of the nerves: always keep in the back of your head that you get to pick your therapist, not the other way around. It's not an audition that you can fail, and there are other therapists out there in case this one isn't a good fit.

I wanted to leave a visitor message on your profile, but it looks like I can't, so thank you!! I think the word "audition" really hits the nail on the head here...

Short film festival organization and clean-up was a success, even on 3 and 5 hours of sleep respectively, because afterparties are also a requirement.

Turned in the last miserable paper I'll ever have to write for a required course in a topic I hate. No more required courses ever again in my life=nothing but reading/writing/thinking about the stuff I actually like from here on out.

You guys, you guys, you guys, look at this!
https://www.flipkey.com/eastsound-vacation-rentals/p208779/
I mean, it's clearly a Lothlorien flet house not a hobbit house*, but still. And I can't afford to go there, but maybe someday we could afford to go there in the winter. One of those gorgeous, crisp, clear winter days with spectacular views. I can dream.
*Tolkien states that on the rare occasions that hobbits even had two-story houses, their bedrooms were always on the ground floor.

Sweet, although I'll admit that my first thought was "arts-n-crafts Ewok village". IMO a true Hobbit house has to be in New Zealand.

Re: Joys and Good News
Wouldn't a truly true hobbit house have to be in the rolling hills of England?

The English countryside's not quite Arcadian enough to pull it off. New Zealand's history of human settlement is recent and obscure enough for it to pass as an idyllic fantasy setting.

Re: Joys and Good News
You know, I was gonna "ACTUALLY--" here, but you're right: 700 years really ain't shit. I wonder if there's a less-recently-settled but pre-expansionist-European-settlement place on earth?waxingjaney wrote:The English countryside's not quite Arcadian enough to pull it off. I vote Indonesia for hobbit houses, though, since the actual hobbits were there.

Free booze tokens will be the end of me, but when calculating it into usual booze prices it's like handing me 3 hours of work dosh.
