Pokemon Go may not be a good game, but as a social thing it's surreal as hell. Drove around Honolulu catching Pokemon from 10 pm to 1 am, and I think everybody in town under 40 was out playing. Dozens of groups of people walking around yelling VULPIX!!
This game is gonna heal America y'all

My first thought was "Is this really a smart game to release? Kids will start wandering around to places they shouldn't be going to" and then I was like "Oh wait, Pokemon is 20 years old, all the fucking kids who play it are 30"

All these 30 year old kids are also wandering around places they shouldn't. I, uh, might've hung out in a graveyard for half an hour today cause it had an active PokeStop.

I wish! Doesn't seem like Pokemon have anything to do with where you are, even though that could be the coolest thing about a geocaching game. Been catching Staryus in the mountains and Charmanders at the ocean instead

I'm insanely jealous of all this! I've been trying to convince my wife to play it on her smartphone b/c I don't have one, but we don't have a data plan and she doesn't think it would be worth only catching Pokemon at places with wifi. Stories about all the cool Pokemon people caught inside their own apartment, at coffee shops and in the subway much appreciated!

Re: Entertainment Joys
With all due respect to your wife, she's totally wrong! If you find PokeStops with wifi, you can hang out there and catch stuff and benefit from the sense of community as people stop by oh god Pokemon is finally helping strangers interact IRL it's too beautiful
Or just stay home, it's fun that way too. I caught a freakishly strong Dragonite in my kitchen yesterday.

Re: Entertainment Joys
Besides the dream sequences the director's cut of Batman v Superman was a lot more enjoyable, now I'm wondering what director's cuts I have been missing out on besides Blade Runner and this film.

Hnnnngggg, ALIENS directors cut is amazing and fills in quite a number of plot holes/establishes some more "WTF" things in the theatrical cut.

Re: Entertainment Joys
So I just read the Wonder Woman Earth One graphic novel by Grant Morrison (who can be pretty batshit if you're not familiar with comics).
I think if I was in charge of the Wonder Woman movie, I would use this as a template and origin story (but not a total adaptation because there wasn't a lot of action). Wonder Woman was kind of subversive bondage comic way back in the day, and this rounds it back around to submission, authority and power in really smart ways.

I really enjoyed the Ghostbusters movie. Probably the most I've laughed at a movie in ages.

Seiya Sanada's Muta-style Moonsault
Also him unexpectedly tapping-out the top guy to start a month-long tournament
(Also OG Japanese man-crush [the one before Shinsuke] unexpectedly beating the other top guy, this goddamn night )

They're doing a new Star Trek TV series, led by a writer from DS9 and Voyager T-that sounds like my kind of Star Trek... I'm scared to be too excited, but I'm really excited anyway. MANY FEELINGS

Kubo and the Two Strings is really good, although be careful if you bring kids. My 5 year old nephew loved it, but it also gave him nightmares. I am really bad at judging "age appropriate". I thought the story was well written and the animation was a beautiful mix of CGI and stop animation (or is it claymation? I get those mixed up)

Stranger Things may have just been a pastiche of well-worn genre content, and I may just belong to every single demographic it's targeted at, but goddamn if that show didn't hit all of my entertainment sweet spots. Enjoyed the heck out of it.

Bethany: What's he like?
Metatron: God? Lonely. But funny. He's got a great sense of humor. Take sex for example. There's nothing funnier than the ridiculous faces you people make mid-coitus.
Bethany: Sex is a joke in heaven?
Metatron: The way I understand it, it's mostly a joke down here, too.

I know how a lot of you folks feel about Game of Thrones, but I've been watching it and I'm on the 3rd season now. Awesome show and I can't believe I haven't legit watched it until now.
Also, weirdly enough I'm seeing it bleed through irl. Noo, not the brutality or the sex, but the family dramas. D:

I think I jumped on the GoT bandwagon kinda late myself (Around when season 4 was airing, I think). Enjoy it for what it's worth (Before season 5, that is).The Mikey wrote:I know how a lot of you folks feel about Game of Thrones, but I've been watching it and I'm on the 3rd season now.
